Emotional intelligence is an up-and-coming concept that is quickly changing the way employers select and hire employees. More and more corporations are focusing on the impact emotional intelligence plays within the workplace and how it has a direct correlation to productivity and success. Emotional intelligence is known as “the other kind of smart” and is the number one predictor of success both personally and professionally.

Course facilitator Linda Marshall is President of Marshall Connects and the author of Giving Back: How to Find Your Personal Joy and Make a Difference To Others. Linda brings her on-the-ground experience after a 32-year career in senior roles and now facilitates workshops and custom programs for corporations and organizations.

The Key to Personal and Professional Success Part 1

Emotional Intelligence is an individual’s ability to recognize, understand and manage their feelings and those of others. The key is to utilize your awareness to communicate your emotions effectively, while interpreting and responding to others. Both personal and professional success can be enhanced through strong emotional intelligence. Research indicates that 90% of top performers have a high degree of emotional intelligence. It's a skill that can be learned and developed. Emotions guide all we do; learn the power of harnessing your emotional intelligence to enrich your life.

Participants will have the opportunity to:

  1. Learn the Science behind Emotional Intelligence
  2. Review the four core Emotional Intelligence competencies: Self-awareness, Self-management, Social Awareness, Relationship Management
  3. Learn Characteristics of an Emotionally Intelligent individual
  4. Gain insights on ways to lead with Emotional Intelligence

  6. Learn what Emotional Hijacking is and how to avoid it

Being aware of your emotions and what triggers them is an asset few take the time to learn. You use your self-awareness skills to notice your feelings, and judge if your needs are being satisfied. Self-Awareness is a personal competency and basically the core of emotional intelligence. Strong Self-Awareness is necessary to become successful and a lack of it will limit your potential. This session will review essential Self-Awareness strategies that will help you guide your emotions as they happen.

Knowing your strengths and the areas you need to develop will provide the confidence required to be the best version of yourself. This session will provide you will knowledge and practical strategies to leverage your strengths to enhance your life.

Managing your reactions and helping you manage the reactions of others is what will set you apart as an individual and leader in any situation. You use your self-management skills to express your feelings and act accordingly to benefit your connection. This session will provide you with sound strategies that will change how you approach situations and get the results you want.

  1. Define Self-Management and learn how to distinguish yourself from others in any situation
  2. Understand the role emotion and logic play in our lives
  3. Learn techniques to manage your reactions to change the response of others

When you walk into a room or meeting, the focus should be about meeting the needs of others. You use your social awareness skills to better understand the other person's needs and feelings. Having the ability to observe others around you and understand their emotions as they occur enhances your social awareness skills. Developing these skills will advance your interactions with others and strengthen relationships. This session will provide an overview of social awareness strategies with some practical application.

Participants will have the opportunity to:

  1. Learn the benefits of recognizing and understanding your emotions
  2. Ways to build and improve Social Awareness
  3. Learn the three essential components of Social Awareness
  4. Identify ways to manage challenging situations using Social Awareness strategies
  5. Review 3 key Social Awareness strategies

Successful Relationship Management Enhances Your Career

Your success in relationship management is directly correlated to your success in the other three emotional intelligence competencies; Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness. Being aware of your emotions and those of others is essential to successfully managing relationships over time. In this session the topic of relationship management will be explored and key strategies will be reviewed.

Participants will have the opportunity to:

  1. Learn key ways to manage challenging situations using relationship management strategies.
  2. Explore strategies to strengthen relationship management, and develop stronger connections.
  3. Review six competencies associated with relationship management.
  4. Understand the importance of Emotional Intelligence in the workplace.
  5. Review skills you need to develop and build relationships.
