Overview

Expand your knowledge and skills in the operating room environment. The Operating Room Attendant is an integral part of the O.R. Team who is responsible for ensuring a safe, clean environment for patients, staff and visitors.

This acknowledgement of completion will combine classroom instruction with a hands-on, hospital laboratory experience.

Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent (Mohawk Academic Upgrading, GED) OR 19 years of age or older.

This program provides specialty training for health care aides and personal support workers looking to enter the Operating Room Attendant profession.

Mandatory Courses

Course Number Course Name Course Description
NRSGNSCD9 Operating Room Attendant Introduces the operating room environment and the role of the OR attendant. Includes: the OR team, communication skills, infection control, basic microbiology concepts, asepsis, positioning of patients and environmental cleaning practices. Students must register for HLTH10223 concurrently with this course to ensure clearances are complete in time for the ORA Lab Experience, see page 100.
HSCI10155 Operating Room Attendant Laboratory Experience Utilize OR Attendant theory and skills in a hospital laboratory experience. Blended delivery. In class dates Dec. 1-2nd. Remainder online. Lab will be held at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital, lab fee included. Prerequisite: NRSGNSCD9. YOU MUST register for HLTH10223 to complete health clearances prior to registration, see page 100.
