Culinary Skills - Introduction

Whether you’re just beginning to cook or looking for a refresher of the basics, these hands-on courses will have you cooking comfortably in no time. Designed to build your culinary expertise, your journey starts with the fundamentals and continues to more advanced techniques, helping you learn to create spectacular dishes with a gourmet touch. Topics include knife skills, a wide range of cooking techniques, food safety and handling, plating and presentation techniques.
You do not need to apply to begin this program, simply ensure you meet the admission requirements (listed on the Admissions &Registration tab).
Interested in taking a single course? No problem. Provided you have the appropriate prerequisites, these courses can be taken individually or as part of the full program.
Admission & Registration
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent (Mohawk Academic Upgrading, GED) OR 19 years of age or older.
- Some manual dexterity is required for the use of sharp tools

Start by ensuring you meet the admission requirements listed above and then register for the courses listed in the Program of Studies when they are offered. Covers simple to complicated dishes & creative plating methods. Become a food enthusiast and confidently make existing recipes in to your own "signature dish" without relying on written recipes. |CULI10078||Weekend Cooking Family Favourites||Let our experienced chef demonstrate how to cook slow and luscious "comfort" family meals. In this hands-on "slow-food" course, discover international family favourites including appetizers, entrees, soups, stews and dessert. Food costs are the responsibility of the participant.
