Take your digital art photography skills to the next level!

Whether you are looking to develop a career in photography or make personal photos more creative, the Art Photography program will help develop and enhance your professional skills and knowledge of photographic techniques. Photography skills are valuable in both personal and professional settings and can be used in a variety of careers including artist, journalist, marketing, fashion, real estate and more.

Combining illustrated lectures, field trips, and relevant 'hands-on' learning, this program will help you become familiar with a wide range of photographic equipment, business and design practices, and studio work. All levels of photographers are welcome.

Foundationally, this program shares the same core courses as the Applied Photography program, however the electives offered in this program are geared towards creative photography, such as Landscape Photography, Nature Photography, Architectural Photography and more.

The Art Photography program is offered in a convenient part-time schedule. You do not need to apply to begin this program, simply ensure you meet the admission requirements (listed on the Admissions & Registration tab) and then you may register for any available courses.

Interested in taking a single course? No problem. Provided you have the appropriate prerequisites, these courses can be taken individually or as part of the full program.

Course description: Manipulate artificial light, flash/strobes, reflectors, posing and backgrounds for portraits and still life.

Course description: Building on techniques covered in Digital Photo 1, learn and experiment with new creative and technical concepts.

Course description: Import, develop, and present your photos using the industry-standard tool for managing photo libraries and image processing. You must have your own laptop w/up-to-date Lightroom CC. Windows or Mac experience required.

Course description: Using Adobe Photoshop and a variety of photographs, explore the fundamentals of digital image manipulation to achieve various results. Supply portable hard drive, flash drives or cloud access for file storage.

Course description: Explore the principles and techniques associated with architectural photography while learning to effectively capture exteriors and interiors through the use of composition, lighting, various lenses, and digital processing.

Course description: Practice photography techniques relating to various subjects in their natural habitat including flowers, birds & wildlife, insects, landscapes and more.

Course description: Explore the styles, techniques, history, and the significance of urban landscape and documentary photography. These concepts help you to create truthful, and often candid photographs for an in-depth portfolio/project exploring a subject of personal interest.

Course description: Using Adobe Photoshop and a variety of photographs, pick up where we left off in our studies with Adobe Photoshop Basic. Explore combinations of tool/menu/pallet features not covered in basic digital imaging course in order to manipulate to achieve both functional and interesting image results.

Course description: Through discussion and field work, you engage in general examination of landscape photographers and specific investigations of your personal viewpoint.
Prerequisites: PHTOPY101
Course description: Student will gain practical experience working in the photo industry...photographer's assistant, in a studio, commercial work, museum/art gallery, etc. Student must receive approval from Program Manager before registering in this course.

Course description: Learn techniques and procedures required to create stunning High Dynamic Range (HDR) colour images using the popular Merge to HDR process in Photoshop and the Photomatic Program. Sound knowledge of camera operation required.

Course description: Photograph the human form in a studio with attention to lighting, directing a model, protocol, photo shoot. Studio experience required. Nude models used in this course. Model fees included. Materials extra.

Course description: Photograph the stars and night sky using a camera, tripod and the internet. Learn tips, techniques and theories to achieve the best results.

Course description: Learn post-editing techniques to make your digital images look like historic old photographs. Techniques will cover a wide historical period from Daguerreotypes, wet plate, and faded film look.
