Overview

Designed for individuals with employment experience in machining, the courses in this program develop skills in basic microcomputer operation, manual CNC programming and CAD/CAM programming. These concepts will be taught using PC-based MasterCAM. The basic CNC programming course will also review mathematical topics such as geometry and trigonometry.

You do not need to apply to begin this program, simply ensure you meet the admission requirements (listed on the Admissions & Registration tab).

Interested in taking a single course? No problem. Provided you have the appropriate prerequisites, these courses can be taken individually or as part of the full program.

Continuing Education Skills
  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent (Mohawk Academic Upgrading, GED) OR 19 years of age or older.
  • CNC courses require you to function at a Grade 12 level in Mathematics and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Since basic machining parameters are not covered, industrial experience in operating conventional machine tools such as turning or milling machines is recommended.

Students who began in other academic years may require different courses to be eligible to graduate. Course description: Apply MasterCAM mill and lathe and the fundamental knowledge to use MasterCAM software efficiently.

Course description: This hands on course covers creation of 3D surfaces and tool paths for 3 axis milling using top rated CAD/CAM software. The course will also include creation of wireframes, surfaces, intersection of surfaces, cavity roughing, toolpath editing and planning.

Prerequisites: CADMRE455
Course description: An introduction to CNC programming including related mathematics, standard code, and machine tool input for 3 axes CNC milling and 2 axes CNC turning. CSA approved safety eye-wear and footwear may be required for some classes and are the responsibility of the student.

Course description: Explore sequences including canned cycles, subroutines, machine tool input, set-up and operation. Prerequisite: MACHRE810. CSA approved safety eye-wear and footwear are required for some classes and are the responsibility of the student.

Prerequisites: MACHRE810
Course description: Emphasis on basic Blueprint Reading and Sketching will help students to develop the ability to visualize objects and interpret dimensions, sections, tolerances, machine finishes, assemblies, terminology, etc. Students must purchase a manual (available from the College Bookstore) for the course.
