Lean Six Sigma tools and business-improvement methodologies are optimizing the way companies do business in healthcare, finance, IT and many other industries. Green Belt certification at Mohawk College is the introductory level for Lean Six Sigma. Originally implemented in the manufacturing sector, these highly respected and proven business improvement methodologies are used by firms world-wide to improve processes and quality by reducing "non-value added" activities, process variations and waste in order to maximize efficiencies and customer satisfaction. Green Belt program participants will focus on a step-by-step process of improvement using statistical tools and Lean and Six Sigma project management strategies such as DMAIC and PDCA.
Mohawk College, partnered with Continuous Improvement Consulting 360 (CI360) has developed an innovative way for professionals to achieve Yellow, Green and even Black Belt Certification in as little as 8 months.
Focused theory courses are offered every 7 weeks for Yellow, Green and Black Belt. Once theory is learned by the student, they can complete their certification by undertaking a real life Lean Six Sigma project. Students attend weekly workshop sessions with a Master Black Belt as they proceed through the DMAIC process of Lean Six Sigma in their project. This project coaching and student interaction ensures robust solutions are applied to the business, maximizing outcomes and setting the Green Belt on the correct path for success.
With Green Belt Certification, practitioners provide vital support to their organization's leadership team for improved customer satisfaction and corporate profitability. With sufficient experience, recipients of the certification can prepare to write the ASQ Yellow, Green or Black Belt certification exams.
Admission & Registration
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent (Mohawk Academic Upgrading, GED) OR 19 years of age or older.

Experience and training in Lean Six Sigma methodology is a definite asset for individuals in management, quality assurance and engineering positions that include Business Consultant. A search of Workopolis on January 15, 2015 revealed 157 job postings in Ontario alone in which Lean Six Sigma training and/or certification was identified as a definite asset or a requirement. Employers include Rogers, Bell, Canada Bread, St Thomas Elign General Hospital, Honeywell, Apotex, Hays, Samsung, to name just a few. Occupational roles include Supply Chain Manager, Analyst, Quality and Continuous Improvement Engineer, Technical Systems Analyst, and many others. "Salary depends on experience. One ad gave a starting range of $75,000 to $97,000 and others in their field say senior positions pay much more." Galt.

The Program of Studies, aligns with the American Society for Quality (ASQ) Book of Knowledge (BOK) for all belt levels, as well as being compliant with the International Standard Organization ISO 18404 regarding Lean Six Sigma competencies.

|QUAL10024||Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt||Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt is an introduction to Lean Six Sigma principles, methods and tools. It is designed for individuals looking to increase their knowledge of Lean Six Sigma but are not yet ready for certification. Participants will learn about the history and principles of Lean and Six Sigma and basic statistical concepts that apply to solving business problems. Blended delivery (50% in class; 50% on line).|
|QUAL10025||Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Theory||Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Theory provides a focus on the facilitation of Lean Six Sigma Kaizen events. More advanced than Yellow Belt, it is designed for individuals looking to develop their leadership skills in continuous improvement and is a pre-requisite for those wishing to pursue Green Belt Certification. Participants will learn about the history and principles of Lean and Six Sigma through practical application of theory, methods and tools including applying the phases of Lean Six Sigma DMAIC problem solving to business problems. Introductory statistical concepts are coupled with Minitab/Excel instruction to facilitate data-driven decision making. Passing Grade - 70%. Blended delivery (50% in class; 50% on line).|
|QUAL10026||Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification||Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification is a capstone course where participants apply Green Belt theory in an actual project, the successful completion of which results in Green Belt Certification. Students must select and complete a Green Belt level project defined as an improvement initiative within one process or department. Project guidance and weekly coaching sessions are led by a certified and experienced Master Black Belt. Students must submit a project report for assessment and achieve a minimum of 70% to achieve Green Belt Certification. Blended delivery (20% in class; 80% project)|
|QUAL10027||Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Theory||Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Theory builds on the facilitation experience of the Green Belt to examine more complicated or cross-functional improvement initiatives. It is designed for individuals who want to advance their abilities in Lean Six Sigma focusing on enterprise level improvement initiatives and is a pre-requisite for those wishing to pursue Black Belt Certification. Participants will apply the phases of Lean Six Sigma DMAIC problem solving to business problems at a Black Belt level involving multiple processes and/or multiple departments. Advanced statistical concepts are coupled with Minitab/Excel instruction to facilitate data-driven decision making. Passing Grade - 70%. Blended delivery (50% in class; 50% on line).|

- Demonstrate an appreciation of the fundamental components of Lean process improvement (PDCA) and Six Sigma quality improvement (DMAIC)
- Apply appropriate Lean Six Sigma methods to business/industry processes and products using case studies and real time examples
- Formulate an appropriate Lean Six Sigma solution to the root cause of a real-world problem of moderate complexity
- Design a quality improvement project using Lean Six Sigma (PDCA, DMAIC) methodology, statistical tools, and techniques
- Apply effective, accurate and reliable statistical methods to quality audit planning and implementation
- Generate written, oral and graphic communications accurately, persuasively, and credibly in a professional manner

CI360 is a fusion of nearly 30 years of direct hands-on experience in Lean Six Sigma training, coaching and consulting; spanning 8 countries and multiple industries including: Health Care, Municipal Government, Manufacturing, Telecommunications, Engineering, Laboratories, Hospitality and Finance. Samantha Waytowich and Amit Rege , both Master Black Belts in Lean Six Sigma are the core of CI360.
Samantha Waytowich, Principal Consultant/Partner
Samantha Waytowich is a certified Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt with 14+ years of progressive experience in training, facilitation/coaching and leading teams using Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
After graduating from the University of Guelph with a B.A.Sc. In 1994, Samantha obtained a diploma in Chemical Engineering Technology from Mohawk College in 1999. In 2005 she became a certified Black Belt with the American Society for Quality (ASQ) and in April 2015 received her Master Black Belt certification from Villanova University.
As a passionate change agent in Lean Six Sigma methodologies, she is skilled at facilitating teams through change and implementing sustaining improvements demonstrating a proven track record.
Her professional career has taken her across Canada and into the US with many diverse facilitation and training opportunities utilizing a Lean Six Sigma thinking approach.
Samantha has trained thousands of employees in Lean Six Sigma, facilitated over 50 successful projects and coached just as many.
Samantha is also a part-time Professor at Mohawk College McKeil School of Business, instructing continuous improvement methodologies to post grad Business Analyst students.
Amit Rege, Principal Consultant/Partner
Amit Rege is a goal oriented certified Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt with 14+ years of progressive accomplishments in planning and implementing sustainable improvements across the value chain.
Amit was born in the vibrant fast paced city of Mumbai, and carries a similar multi-cultural melting pot personality that allows him to seamlessly integrate into any social or professional situation. He has a Master’s degree in Industrial & Systems Engineering from Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY, USA. He is certified by American Society for Quality (ASQ) and TRW Automotive since 2005 as a Black Belt and since 2007 as a Master Black Belt.
As a global leader in Change Management, he has successfully led the paradigm shift towards better quality and highest efficiency across multiple Engineering centres, Manufacturing sites, Call-centres, Out-sourcing partners, Warehouse logistics, Construction, Transport & Purchasing.
His professional career has spanned across some of the top Fortune 500 multinational companies in the world and also given him with the opportunity to live and work in the US, Canada, UK, Europe, Scandinavia and India.
As a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt, he has trained over 800 employees (and facilitated/mentored more than 100 improvement projects)
