Job Seeker Services

We offer free employment-related services to anyone looking for full-time, part-time or summer work in the Hamilton or Stoney Creek communities, including accessing government funding or Second Career retraining. Our two locations are conveniently located at Mohawk College’s Fennell Campus and on Centennial Pkwy N off of Barton St E.

Walk-ins are welcome, but you can also sign up for free employment services online or by calling 905-575-2177. Take advantage of our free services funded through Employment Ontario today.

Free Walk-in Services

Our Employment Resource Centre is open to anyone looking for work, whether full-time, part-time, or seasonal. Walk-in services include:

  • Access to written, audio-visual and computer-based material on careers, occupations, employment, the job market, training opportunities and job search skills and strategies
  • Confidential and personalized 1:1 employment counselling
  • Access to an internet connected technology (e.g., computers, printing, scanning, faxing, photocopying)
  • Instant portfolio building help - includes job search support, resume critiques, use of LinkedIn, and career/education pathway planning

Pre-Apprenticeship Training

Take advantage of the funded pre-apprenticeship training programs offered out of Stoney Creek Campus of Mohawk College. These programs provide individuals with an equivalent of Level 1 apprenticeship in an approved trade. They are funded through the Ministry of Training, Colleges & Universities and offered once/year in various trades.

Free Workshops

The following workshops are available to job seekers in the Hamilton or Stoney Creek communities. Discovering Your Skills & Abilities

Duration: 2 Hours

What we’ll cover:

  • Self-assessment 
  • Identifying your skills and abilities
  • Inventory of past experiences/education, training & activities
  • Looking at values, interests and accomplishments

  • Discuss how skills match with what type of work.

Resumes & Cover Letters

Duration: 2 Hours

  • What is a resume?
  • Resume formats and styles
  • Resume worksheet and sample resumes.
  • Resume basics.

  • Discuss electronic resumes briefly and the importance of keywords (skills).

Job Search & Networking

  • “30 Second Summary”
  • Informational interviews
  • Internet job search

Interviews

Duration: 2 Hours

What we’ll cover:

  • Stages of an interview
  • Types of interviews ie. behavioural/panel/telephone/informal
  • Preparing for interview questions
  • Top 10 questions asked in interviews
  • How to relate your skills to the interview/position
  • Typical Problem areas working around barriers ie. too old
  • Discrimination-answering illegal questions
  • Questions not to ask at an interview

Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System

Duration: 2 Hours

What we’ll cover:

  • Interactive module workshop
  • Delivered one-on-one or to a small group
  • General WHMIS training
  • Receive Wall Mount and Pocket Certificates

Second Career Information Sessions

Duration: 2 Hours

What we’ll cover:

  • Provide Information about EO programs and services
  • Thoroughly explain second career program 
  • Explain timelines and process
  • Provide tools and explain their use
  • Answer any questions

Job Matching and Placement

Duration: 2 Hours

  • Marketing yourself to employers
  • Role of Job Developer

E-Portfolio Foundations for Professionals

  • What content to add to your ePortfolio
  • How to stand out from the competition
  • What to look for in ePortfolio software programs
