May 13, 2022: President’s Memorandum - Mohawk College preparing to welcome students to campus for the Fall semester
Dear Colleagues:
While the Fall semester is still a few months away, we know many want to better understand Mohawk’s plans for September. Whether you are returning to the college or joining us for the first time, we are excited to share that students will be coming to campus this September with classes, events, activities and services returning for the start of the new academic year.
Many students have told us they enjoy the flexibility that comes with hybrid course learning and want to see this continue. Thank you. Your feedback is important to us and we have taken steps to ensure we continue to provide a greater level of flexibility by offering courses in hybrid formats, which is a combination of in-person and virtual, across most programs. Many student services and supports will also continue to be available both in-person and virtually.
The mix of fully in-person and hybrid will vary by program. For most programs, the majority of your time will be spent on campus with hybrid delivery reserved for situations where it makes sense such as some lecture-based learning. The specific details for your program will be posted to the Program Delivery page on the college’s website on June 1.
We have learned a lot from the past two years and you will see this reflected in your courses through our robust Learning Management System (MyCanvas) and purposefully integrated educational technologies, including virtual simulations and innovative delivery strategies that enhance the quality of your courses and provide an exceptional student experience. We also continue to explore new ways to deliver learning experiences that are flexible and responsive to the diverse needs of Mohawk students, and also keeping in mind the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) requirements for International students.
Hands-on and experiential learning are at the core of what we do at Mohawk and this will not change. No matter where or how you learn, you will receive a high-quality education and the digital skills that are essential for navigating your program and to set you up for success in an ever-changing digital economy and workforce.
If you are coming to Mohawk this September, it is important for you to know that as of April 18, we have removed all pandemic-related access controls and suspended our mask and vaccine requirements. Though the mask requirement is no longer in place, anyone coming to campus is encouraged to bring and wear a mask as an added layer of protection. We will continue to monitor the situation with the pandemic and adjust our plans if conditions change or we receive new direction from Public Health authorities. Access controls and measures such as mandatory masking and the college’s vaccination policy could be reinstated on short notice if conditions change. International students are reminded to check the Entering Canada website for the most current information regarding travel to Canada.
Vaccination remains the best protection against COVID-19. For more information about the COVID-19 vaccines visit the City of Hamilton website.
We look forward to seeing you this September. Until then, have a safe and enjoyable summer.
Regards,
Ron
Previous Updates
May 2, 2022: Masks required in designated locations on campus.
Effective immediately and until at least June 11, anyone visiting the following health services locations on campus will be required to wear a college-supplied mask while accessing the services provided at these locations.
- Health and Wellness Centre – C109, Fennell Campus
- Massage Therapy Clinic at the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre
- Health Services Testing Clinic – B114
Public Health authorities recently updated mask requirements for Ontario. The spaces listed above are considered health care services and are required to comply with the direction from Public Health. Each location will have masks available for those who do not bring their own. In addition to the health care service locations, masks are also required in the following settings or situations:
- For individuals who had COVID-19 or COVID-19 symptoms, masks must be worn in public places from day 6 to day 10, if the isolation period is 5 days.
- For individuals who are close contacts, masks must be worn in public places for 10 days after exposure.
- In addition to health services providers, masks must also be worn on public transit, hospitals, Long-Term Care homes, retirement homes, shelters and clinics.
Thank you for your cooperation.
April 13, 2022: Masking protocols at IAHS campus
All students and employees at Mohawk College’s Institute for Applied Health Sciences (IAHS) campus are reminded that they are required to follow McMaster protocols while attending that campus. Following the announcement that McMaster University has extended its mask mandate until the end of May 2022, this means all IAHS Mohawk students and employees must wear a mask in all indoor settings, including classrooms, libraries, crowded spaces and close workspaces until that mandate ends.
March 31, 2022: Mohawk College to suspend remaining access controls and pandemic-related measures effective, Monday, April 18.
Mohawk College will be suspending all remaining access controls and pandemic-related measures, effective Monday, April 18, 2022.
The health and safety of the college community remains our top priority. Mohawk will continue to monitor the situation with the pandemic and adjust these plans if conditions change or we receive new direction from Public Health authorities. Access controls and measures such as mandatory masking and the college’s vaccination policy could be reinstated on short notice if conditions change.
The following changes will take effect on April 18:
Vaccination policy to be suspended.
Effective Monday, April 18, 2022, Mohawk is suspending the requirement for anyone attending a Mohawk College facility to provide proof of vaccination before entering a campus or college-owned facility. Vaccinations are still the best defence against the COVID pandemic. The college encourages all students and employees to get vaccinated to protect themselves and those they care about. For more information about COVID-19 vaccines visit the City of Hamilton website.
Masks no longer required, but still recommended.
The college will be suspending the requirement to wear masks on campus as of April 18, though the use of masks will still be recommended as an added layer of protection. We ask everyone to please continue to be kind to each other and to be respectful of others’ choices.
You may bring and wear your own mask. Mohawk will also continue to have masks available at designated locations on campus while supplies last. Mask pick-up locations will be posted to the college’s COVID-19 website.
Mandatory daily health screening to end.
Mandatory daily health screening will be suspended, effective April 18. Self-monitoring remains an important step in stopping the spread of the virus. Please continue to monitor your health daily and do not come to campus if you are feeling ill.
Access to campuses.
Most entrances will re-open on April 18.
Current measures to remain in place until April 18.
Until April 18, the current requirements for masking, vaccination, designated entrances and health screening will continue to remain in place. If you are coming to a Mohawk campus you must be fully vaccinated or have an approved exemption, and must wear a medical grade mask, which will continue to be available from security at the designated entrances. You are also still required to complete the daily health-screening questionnaire through the Mohawk Safety App, each day you come to campus, and access to campus will continue to be through the designated entrances at each campus. Please visit the COVID-19 Vaccination Policy Statement page for instructions on how to upload proof of vaccination.
Important reminder for students on placement and co-ops
Students who have placement or co-op requirements as part of their program are reminded that many employers – especially those in healthcare settings – continue to require proof of vaccination as a condition of employment. Please make sure you are aware of what these requirements are and that you are prepared to meet these requirements prior to beginning your placement or co-op. Please contact your Field Placement Specialist or Co-op Specialist for information.
International Students travelling to Canada
If you are an International student that is continuing or beginning your studies with us in May 2022, there are additional considerations for you to be aware of for the Summer 2022 semester:
As of August 31, 2022, the IRCC will no longer allow overseas online studies to count towards Post-Graduation Work Permit eligibility.
If there are any changes to the IRCC’s deadline, we will share this information with International students directly.
If you have your study permit, ensure that you are making appropriate travel arrangements to start your studies in person on time. The Important Academic Dates website has information on program start dates. Please also visit the site to understand how your program is being delivered for the Spring/Summer semester. If you are studying at the Mohawk College Mississauga Campus in partnership with triOS, please check the program delivery information about your program in May 2022.
Please also visit the Entering Canada page and Get Ready to Start page to get all the information you may need to continue or begin your studies in May 2022.
Students currently studying oversees who have questions regarding their transition to in-person studies this summer can email the International Student Services team for support.

March 1, 2022: Mohawk College to begin easing campus access controls
As the Ontario government moves ahead with its plans to ease most pandemic-related health measures in the province over the next several weeks, we wanted to share with you the steps Mohawk College will be taking as we prepare to welcome more students and employees back to campus.
Controlled access points to be removed beginning March 7.
To provide consistency and stability during the transition, the easing of campus access controls and health protocols will happen gradually over March and April, beginning with the removal of the security-controlled access points on campus, effective Monday, March 7. This means that as of this date students and employees will be able to access our campuses without having to stop at a security checkpoint; however, access to the campuses will remain limited to the designated entry doors currently in use at each campus. Beginning Monday, March 21, the college will start to open more access points at all campuses.
Medical-grade masks will still be required on campus.
The use of medical-grade masks will continue to be required on campus and will remain a requirement until further direction by Public Health or the province. The college will continue to supply medical-grade masks for those who do not bring their own. Security will continue to have the masks available at the designated entrances to each campus. You will not be allowed to attend a class or on-campus events unless you are wearing a medical-grade mask. N95 masks are also permitted and may be worn in place of a medical-grade mask.
Daily Health Screening will continue.
Self-monitoring for symptoms continues to be an important step in stopping the spread of the virus, so even with the checkpoints removed, employees and students will be required to complete the daily health-screening questionnaire through the Mohawk Safety App each day they are coming to campus. Even though your screening status will not be checked at the door after March 7, it is important that you complete this step each day as it may be subject to verification if there is a need to identify close contacts. If you are deemed a close contact of someone confirmed to have COVID, you are still required to self-isolate. Please refer to Hamilton Public Health’s website for information on how to determine if you are a close contact and the length of time required for self-isolation.
Vaccine requirement to remain in place until the end of the Winter semester.
Along with most of Ontario’s colleges and universities, Mohawk’s vaccine requirement will remain in place until the end of the Winter semester in April. Keeping the vaccine requirement provides a level of certainty for the students and employees who are required to be on campus for in-person learning. Until the policy is removed, anyone coming to a Mohawk campus must have uploaded their proof of vaccination and have it verified by Mohawk or have an APPROVED exemption from the college before being permitted to attend in-person classes or events on campus. Proof of vaccination must be uploaded a minimum of 48 hours in advance of coming to campus. For specific events such as spectator access for varsity games, the Ontario QR code vaccine passport may be accepted.
Mohawk will continue to review its campus access controls and health protocols and we may adjust our plans based on further direction from Public Health and the province. Any updates or changes will be shared with the college community by email and posted to the college’s COVID-19 website.
Plans for the Spring/Summer Semester.
With campus access controls easing, we will begin to offer more opportunities for students to attend in-person events and activities on campus. In-person services and supports will also become more widely available as we begin the Spring/Summer semester. Most services and supports will also continue to be available virtually. These opportunities, including details about our June Convocation plans, will be shared with students as they become available.
With these changes, we are excited to be welcoming more students back to campus for in-person learning for the Spring/Summer semester beginning in May. Most programs being offered this summer will have some in-person components and on-campus activities. There is a small number of programs with unique considerations that will continue online. Details for these programs will be made available on the Program Delivery Information page the week of March 7. Delivery information for specific courses will be indicated on timetables.
The college has heard from many students who appreciate the added flexibility that comes with virtual and remote learning. Based on this feedback, most programs will continue to offer some virtual and remote learning for courses where in-person delivery is not required to achieve the learning outcomes.
Mohawk was a leader in virtual learning before the pandemic. Over the past two years our faculty and staff have worked hard to develop new techniques and adopt new technologies that have further enhanced the experience for students. These lessons will guide our decisions as we consider the current and future needs of our students and the communities we serve.
The past two years have been extremely difficult for everyone. We have all made sacrifices to keep our family, friends and loved ones safe, and I want to thank everyone who did their part to keep our campus community safe.
It is important to remember that while things seem to be improving, we are still in a pandemic. From the start of this crisis, Mohawk has made health and safety our first priority. We will continue to monitor the situation closely over the coming weeks and months and be ready to adjust our plans if needed.
Thank you for your continued support and patience. We look forward to seeing you soon.

January 11, 2022: Winter 2022 Semester Update
Dear Students,
The ongoing spread of the Omicron COVID-19 variant has created uncertainty for Mohawk College students and staff, and for the greater community. As a result, we have decided to continue to deliver the Winter 2022 semester in the current format, as it was detailed in a message to the college community on January 3.
This means that all required in-person learning will continue but all other learning that was to be done in-person will be delivered using virtual and remote delivery for the remainder of the semester. There will be a few exceptions to this approach and those students will be contacted directly by their academic areas with more details.
Courses that were previously identified as being entirely online for the Winter semester will remain online for the duration of the semester.
This decision will allow students to plan ahead with certainty. If you have any questions, please be sure to connect with your academic program area.
Student Services and supports will continue to be offered remotely and in-person.
We remain committed to fully and safely reopening the college as soon as we are able in order to provide students with an opportunity to learn, grow and develop in all aspects of their education and life. Many students have indicated that they would like to return to campus so they can experience in-person extracurricular activities, greater social connections and large events. Should conditions improve and we are able to safely bring more students on campus, we may introduce optional campus activities for students to experience.
In-person events and activities cancelled (other than required in-person learning).
All in-person events, internal and external, have been cancelled until the end of February. Some external academic bookings will be permitted in specific areas, such as MCE and the testing centre. We will continue to monitor the situation and make a decision about events for the remainder of the semester by the middle of February.
DBARC to remain closed.
The David Braley Athletic & Recreation Centre (DBARC) will be closed, except for approved academic and college-related purposes, until further notice. The Student Residence will remain open to students and employees, noting that a maximum limit of five people can gather in indoor public spaces based on current provincial direction.
In accordance with provincial guidelines, varsity athletics training and competition has been suspended until at least January 21.
On-campus library services.
Mohawk College Library services are available on-campus at Fennell, IAHS and Stoney Creek locations and virtually. Access to the library will be through bookable seats for both computers and study use. Please refer to the Library webpage for hours of operation and additional details.
On-campus food services.
On-campus food service options will be limited to take-out only, with designated eating areas where physical distancing is required.
No visitors allowed on campus.
Visitors and external guests will not be allowed access to campus until further notice, unless it supports academic programming. The process for guests coming to campus remains the same as was in place during the Fall 2021 semester.
Changes to COVID case reporting.
With the spread of the Omicron COVID-19 variant as the dominant cause of infection in Ontario, Public Health case tracking and reporting has changed. As a result, the college will no longer be reporting cases associated with college facilities. We will continue to work with Hamilton Public Health to ensure you receive any important health and safety updates for the college community.
Controlled access and vaccine requirement to remain in place.
Mohawk will continue to control access to all campuses for the Winter semester with designated entrances and security screening checkpoints. Anyone coming to a Mohawk College campus will not be permitted access, or be able to attend in-person classes or access in-person students supports and services, until they have uploaded their proof of vaccination and have it verified by Mohawk or have an APPROVED exemption from the college.
Masks are required on campus.
Anyone attending a Mohawk campus will be required to wear a college-supplied mask while on campus. Masks must be worn regardless of a person’s vaccination status. The masks will be available at the Check-in Desks.
Vaccinations remain our best defense against the COVID pandemic. If you are not already vaccinated, you are encouraged to get vaccinated to protect yourself and those you care about. If you are fully vaccinated and have the opportunity to get a booster, please book your appointment as soon as possible.
Mohawk College Health Services are offering COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters for students, employees and their immediate family members. Appointments are available based on vaccine supply and can be booked by emailing healthservices [at] mohawkcollege.ca.
As a reminder, we ask everyone in the Mohawk College community to continue to assess their health daily in order to help keep everyone safe. If you are visiting a Mohawk College campus, respond to the COVID Self Disclosure assessment questions honestly on your Mohawk Safety app as part of the entry process.
We know the uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant is frustrating and heightens the anxiety that some people may be feeling. The college is here to support you. If you need help, please ask and if you know someone who needs help, please reach out and offer it.
Thank you for your continued patience and understanding.
Regards,
Ron

December 16, 2021: What you need to know if you are coming to a Mohawk campus in January.
As we approach the start of the Winter semester at Mohawk College, we want to provide you with an update on the steps the college is taking to keep our campus community safe and to remind you of some important steps that must be completed before you come to campus this winter.
Key highlights from this communication:
- Designated entrances will be in place at each campus.
- You must provide proof of vaccination or have an approved exemption to access the campus and this must be done before you come to campus.
- Testing is required for partially vaccinated or exempt individuals.
- Do not come to campus if you are sick.
- Masks must be worn on campus, regardless of vaccination status.
Please read the following information carefully. Specific or unique details not covered in this communication will be shared with students and employees directly via email and posted the college’s COVID-19 website.
1. Designated entrances at each campus.
Designated entrances have been set up at each campus. All other entry doors will remain locked to anyone entering the college. Each designated entrance will have check-in desks where students and employees will confirm their vaccination status by tapping their ONE card. If you do not have a ONE card you can show security your vaccination status in the Mohawk Safety App. You will then be given a colour-coded wrist band that confirms your status and allows you to come and go from the campus that day. Entry locations and additional details can be found under Entering Campus Checklist page on the college’s COVID-19 website. Please plan ahead and come prepared as this will help avoid delays and ensure everyone can access the campus in a timely fashion.
2. You need to provide proof of your Mohawk verified vaccination status or have an approved exemption to access the campus.
Please remember that you are not permitted access to any Mohawk campus or facility, or attend in-person classes, until you upload your proof of vaccination and have it verified by Mohawk or have an APPROVED exemption from the college. Proof of vaccination and exemptions will not be processed upon arrival. This MUST be done before you come to Mohawk College.
3. Upload your proof of vaccination or apply for an exemption today.
Please remember that the college is closed from December 24 to January 3. To have your proof of vaccination confirmed for January 3 please submit by Thursday, December 16. Instructions and details about alternate submission formats are available under the Proof of Vaccination section of the Mohawk College Vaccine Policy Statement.
Exemptions will only be approved on substantiated medical or non-medical human rights grounds. Please refer to the Exemptions section of the Mohawk College Vaccine Policy Statement for details about the information you are required to submit with your request. The deadline for applications for exemption was Friday, December 10 in order to be reviewed in time for January 3. Applications submitted after this date will be accepted but may not be reviewed in time for the start of classes in January.
4. Testing required for partially vaccinated or exempt individuals.
Any individual who is partially vaccinated by January 3 or has received an approved human rights-based exemption must complete Rapid Antigen Testing once every seven days. Individuals who have received only one dose of a Health Canada approved vaccine as of January 3, 2022 will be eligible for Rapid Antigen Testing until February 14, 2022. By February 14, 2022, if you are not Fully Vaccinated and have not received an approved exemption under the Ontario Human Rights Code, you will not be able to enter a Mohawk College Facility or attend a Mohawk College related event. For information on testing at Mohawk College visit our website.
Please note that the St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton COVID-19 Test Centre that has been located at the Fennell campus is closing as of December 15, 2021. The new test centre will be located 1565 Upper James. For more information or to book an appointment visit the City of Hamilton website.
PCR testing is available by appointment only for Mohawk students and employees (including contractors, the Mohawk Students’ Association, Paragon, Chartwells, etc). Visit the college’s COVID-19 website for more details on PCR eligibility and how to book an appointment.
5. Do not come to campus if you are sick.
Daily health screening is required at all campuses. Please complete the Health Screening Questionnaire found on the Mohawk Safety App each day you are coming to campus. If you are unable to complete the screening using the app you can review the screening questions that are posted to the college’s COVID-19 website. The screening questions will also be posted at each designated entrance. If you do not pass the health screening or if you are experiencing any symptoms, do not come to campus.
Mohawk College is asking that students and employees who have tested positive for COVID-19, are a close contact of someone with COVID-19 or have had symptoms that are consistent with COVID-19 complete an online COVID-19 Self Disclosure Form so that we can help reduce the spread of the virus and assist with contact tracing if needed. Completion of the form is voluntary.
6. Masks must be worn on campus, regardless of vaccination status.
Anyone attending a Mohawk campus will be required to wear a college-supplied mask while on campus. Masks must be worn regardless of a person’s vaccination status. The masks will be available at the Check-in Desks.
7. Mohawk continues to monitor the situation and will adjust these plans if the situation changes.
The health and safety of our campus community remains our top priority. Though we continue to plan for a semester that will see more students back on campus, we will be ready to adjust our plans if the situation changes and will continue to closely follow all public health mandates.
Please stay tuned to our COVID-19 update website for important updates from the college and for any changes or updates to the information shared in this email.

December 15, 2021: Important update from Mohawk College regarding plans for Winter 2022
Dear Students:
In light of the recent developments with the COVID Omicron variant, Mohawk College is making some temporary modifications to our plans for the Winter semester. We are making these changes to help keep our campus community safe until more is known about the impact of the new variant.
We know that many students and employees will be disappointed with this announcement. Our goal remains to bring students back to campus for in-person learning, and we continue to work towards this goal. We are monitoring the situation with the pandemic closely. We will re-evaluate these plans as the path of the variant becomes more clear.
Below is a summary of the steps we are taking for January. A more detailed summary of the protocols and measures for the Winter semester will be sent to all students and staff through email and posted to the college’s COVID-19 website. Please watch for this email and visit the website to make sure you are familiar with the requirements for the Winter semester.
Temporary modifications to classes for January.
Until January 30, the college will continue with the academic format we have been using for the Fall semester. This means all required in-person learning will continue in January, but all other learning that was to be done in-person will be delivered using virtual and remote delivery for January. The approach will vary according to academic program requirements. Your academic program area is developing these plans now and will share the details with you directly as soon as they are available. Courses that were previously identified as being entirely online for the Winter semester will remain online for the duration of the semester.
In-person events and activities cancelled (other than required in-person learning).
All in-person events, internal and external, will be cancelled until the end of January. Any in-person holiday events or celebrations should be cancelled or moved online.
The DBARC and Student Residence will remain open to students and employees. Please refer to the website for details on how to access these facilities.
No visitors allowed on campus.
Visitors and external guests will not be allowed access to campus for the month of January unless it supports academic programming. The process for guests coming to campus remains the same as what was in place during the Fall 2021 semester.
Controlled access and vaccine requirement to remain in place.
Mohawk will continue to control access to all campuses for the Winter semester with designated entrances and security screening checkpoints. Anyone coming to a Mohawk College campus will not be permitted access, or able to attend in-person classes, until they have uploaded their proof of vaccination and have it verified by Mohawk or have an APPROVED exemption from the college.
Masks are required on campus.
Anyone attending a Mohawk campus will be required to wear a college-supplied mask while on campus. Masks must be worn regardless of a person’s vaccination status. The masks will be available at the Check-in Desks.
Vaccinations remain our best defence against the COVID pandemic. If you are not already vaccinated, I encourage you to get vaccinated to protect yourself and those you care about. If you are fully vaccinated and have the opportunity to get a booster, please book your appointment as soon as you are eligible.
I want to thank our faculty and staff for their commitment and hard work over the past several months. I also want to thank our students for their continued patience and understanding. We know the timing of this announcement and the uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant heightens the sense of anxiety everyone is feeling right now. The college is here to support you. If you need help, please ask and if you know someone who needs help, please reach out and offer it.
Counselling services are available, Monday to Friday. Students can email: counselling [at] mohawkcollege.ca or call 905-575-2211.
I wish you all a safe and happy holiday season.

November 19, 2021: Mohawk extends vaccine requirement for winter 2022. Important changes to exemptions.
To all Mohawk Employees and Students,
As we prepare to welcome the majority of students back to campus in January, we want to share with you some important changes and updates to the college’s proof of vaccination requirement. To confirm, Mohawk College has a Vaccination Mandate in place. As of February 14, 2022, only people who have been fully vaccinated or have an APPROVED exemption will be admitted to college campuses.
As a result, by January 3, 2022, all students, employees, volunteers, guests, visitors and contractors must have received at least one dose of a Health Canada approved vaccine, or have an approved exemption that is based on substantiated medical or non-medical human rights grounds in order to enter a Mohawk College facility or attend a college related event. Employees and students who have received their first dose of a Health Canada approved vaccine by January 3, will be permitted access to campus with regular testing but must be fully vaccinated by Monday, February 14.
With the increase in on-campus activity in January, employees and students who are learning and working remotely may be required to attend campus from time to time and should be prepared to comply with proof of vaccination requirement. Students and employees who have already submitted their proof of vaccination do not need to resubmit.
Important details about these changes are outlined below and contained in the Mohawk College Vaccine Policy Statement. Please read the following the information and the policy statement carefully. It is your responsibility to understand and comply with this requirement.
Important changes to exemption requests.
Anyone who is requesting an exemption from the college’s proof of vaccination requirement must now fill out an exemption request form and will be required to provide documentation supporting their request. Exemptions will only be approved on substantiated medical or non-medical human rights grounds. Please refer to the Exemptions section of the Mohawk College Vaccine Policy Statement for details about the information you are required to submit with your request.
Exemption applications will not be processed on arrival to campus. Applications for exemption must be submitted and approved prior to coming to campus. Please allow a minimum of two weeks to process exemption requests, and please do not submit more than one request as this will delay the review process. New exemptions requests received as of November 22, 2021 will be subject to the updated policy statement.
All exemptions from the Fall 2021 semester will be cancelled and deleted from the system on Saturday, December 18. If you requested an exemption before or during the Fall 2021 semester, you must reapply for an exemption for January to retain access to campus.
Due to the college being closed from December 24 to January 3, 2022, you are strongly encouraged to submit your request by Friday, December 10, 2021 at the latest in order for it to be reviewed in time for the start of the semester.
Instructions on how to request an exemption as well links to the exemption application forms are included in the Exemptions section of the Mohawk College Vaccine Policy Statement.
Upload your proof of vaccination now.
Proof of vaccination must be submitted before you come to campus. Please allow a minimum of 5 business days for your information to be verified. Again, students and employees who have already submitted their proof of vaccination do not need to resubmit.
The college will be closed from Friday, December 24, 2021 to Monday, January 3, 2022. Please plan to submit your proof of vaccination well in advance of the closure period in order for it to be processed in time for the start of the semester in January.
Proof of vaccination can be uploaded through the Mohawk Safety App. Instructions and details about alternate submission formats are available under the Proof of Vaccination section of the Mohawk College Vaccine Policy Statement.
Testing and education requirements
Those with approved exemptions and those who have received a first dose of a vaccine will be required to complete regular Antigen screening tests once every seven days. Individuals who are not fully vaccinated by January 3 will be only be eligible for testing until February 14. More details on testing can be found under the COVID-19 Testing section of the Mohawk College Vaccine Policy Statement.
Those who receive a non-medical human rights-based exemption will also be required to complete a mandatory education program. You do not need to complete this program prior to January 3. Details about the education program will be communicated to participants directly.
No exemption + not vaccinated = No access to campus
If you do not meet the requirements for an exemption and you choose not to be vaccinated, you will not be permitted access to campus. If this applies to you, please contact your Program coordinator or Student Success Advisor to discuss your situation.
Placements and Co-ops
Employees and students who do not need to attend college property but who regularly work or study at a sanctioned off-campus site (i.e., dual credit programs, placement and co-op activities) are expected to comply with the proof of vaccination requirement and, may be required to comply with any additional requirements of the sanctioned off-campus site.
Visitors, volunteers and guests
Visitors, volunteers and guests must comply with the vaccine requirement using the college’s proof of vaccination process prior to coming to campus or attending a college related event. The proof of vaccination process must be completed each time they come to campus or attend an event. Please refer to the Contractors, Vendors, Visitors and Guests section of the Mohawk College Vaccine Policy Statement for more details.

October 21, 2021: Majority of Mohawk College students to return to campus in January
It has been wonderful to see more students on campus this Fall, and we look forward to welcoming many more students back to campus in January.
Thanks to high vaccination rates and the collective efforts of the Mohawk College community, we will be moving forward with our plan, first announced at the end of July, to bring the majority of students back to campus beginning January 2022. We know many have been anxiously awaiting this news and will be happy that in-person learning is resuming on a scale not seen since before the pandemic began in March 2020.
We have also heard from many students who appreciate the flexibility that comes with virtual and remote learning. Based on this feedback, many programs will continue to offer some virtual and remote learning for courses where in-person delivery is not required to achieve the learning outcomes. These courses will be identified in your timetable. Winter timetable registration will open as planned on Tuesday, December 7, 2021.
There is a small number of programs with unique considerations that will continue to be delivered entirely online for the Winter semester. We have posted the details for these programs to the Program Delivery Information page on the college’s website.
While the return to campus will be exciting news for many, we know that some have mixed feelings. For this reason, we want to update you on the college’s progress so far and remind you of the steps we are taking to keep our campus community safe.
1. Vaccine requirement to remain in place.
The evidence is clear. COVID-19 vaccines work and those who are vaccinated are much less likely to catch or transmit the virus to others. Mohawk’s vaccination rate is approaching 90% and is expected to exceed 95% by the end of the Fall semester. The high vaccination rate is the reason we are able to move forward with our plans for January.
As we have been doing for the Fall semester, Mohawk College will continue to require all students, employees, contractors, volunteers, guests and visitors to confirm their vaccination status via the Mohawk Safety App before being permitted entry to a Mohawk facility. The requirements and eligibility for requesting an exemption from the vaccine policy are determined by the Province of Ontario and may change at any time. Any updates will be posted to the college’s COVID-19 website.
If you have not received your vaccine, you are urged to get it as soon as possible. You are not considered to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 until you have received the required doses of a Health Canada approved vaccine. In most cases, it takes approximately six weeks from the date of your first vaccination before you are considered to be fully vaccinated. This means that if you are required to be on campus on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, you will need to obtain your first dose by Wednesday, November 24. For more information about vaccines visit the City of Hamilton website.
Proof of vaccination must be confirmed prior to your arrival at campus. If you are coming to campus, you need to upload your proof of vaccination as soon as possible. Failure to do this will result in you being denied access to campus. Please allow a minimum of 48 hours (two working days) for your vaccination status to be confirmed. Submissions will be accepted and reviewed during the Holiday closure in December.
Please note Mohawk College’s proof of vaccination requirement applies only to students and employees needing access Mohawk facilities. Students on placement or co-op may be subject to additional vaccine verification requirements that apply to their placement or co-op locations.
For instructions on how to provide proof of vaccination to Mohawk College please refer to the Mohawk College COVID-19 Vaccination Policy Statement, which is located on the COVID-19 update section of our website. Please review the information on this page carefully and follow the steps provided to complete the vaccine verification process.
2. Health and safety protocols expected to remain in place with some changes.
It is anticipated that current Public Health guidelines will remain in place. This includes the use of masks indoors and mandatory daily health screening. At present, physical distancing and capacity limits are not required for the majority of instructional spaces, as outlined in the province’s amendment to the Reopening Ontario Act that came into effect on September 7. There are some circumstances where capacity limits and physical distancing remain in place.
Effective Monday, October 18, the mandatory use of eye protection is no longer required in classrooms and labs, with the exception of spaces where it is a normal part of program delivery. This means face shields, goggles and eye wear are no longer required. This change is a direct result of high vaccination rates and the reduced risk of transmission on campus.
Any changes, new or updated, to current health protocols and campus access details for the Winter semester will be posted to the Campus Access section of the COVID-19 website and communicated to students and employees directly via email.
3. International Students travelling to Canada
If you are an International student that is continuing or beginning your studies with us in January, there are additional considerations for you to be aware of for the Winter semester:
- As of December 31, 2021, the IRCC will no longer allow overseas online studies to count towards Post-Graduation Work Permit eligibility. If there are any changes to the IRCC’s deadline, we will share this information with International students directly.
- If you have your study permit, ensure that you are making appropriate travel arrangements to start your studies in person on time this Winter. The Important Academic Dates website has information on program start dates.
- If you are studying at the Mohawk College Mississauga Campus in partnership with triOS these changes will also apply to you.
Students who are currently studying overseas will receive an additional message from the International Department in the coming week to support their transition to in-person studies in Canada.
4. Events and Room Bookings
We will be welcoming back more internal events and external room bookings beginning in January.
Internal groups such as student clubs, departments, associations and unions will be able to request event bookings on or off campus. All events will require a Hazard Risk Assessment to be completed and approved by an appropriate Senior Leadership Team member.
External room bookings will be limited to evenings and weekends only. Third-party bookings must submit a safety plan using the college-supplied template and will be required to follow all health and safety protocols and policies while on campus.
The McIntyre Performing Arts Centre will remain closed to external events until April 2022.
Gathering sizes and capacity limits will depend on the provincial regulations in place at the time of the event.
Thank you for your support and patience.
It has been a long and difficult journey to get to this point. I want thank you for your continued support and patience as we ease back into a more normal way of learning and working together.
Please continue to monitor your email and to frequently check the college’s website for any potential updates.
We look forward to seeing you in person again soon.

October 15, 2021: Mandatory eye protection no longer required in classrooms and labs starting Monday
To All Faculty and Staff,
Effective Monday, October 18, the mandatory use of eye protection will no longer be required in classrooms and labs, with the exception of spaces where it is a normal part of program delivery.
The evidence is clear. COVID-19 vaccines work and those who are vaccinated are much less likely to catch or transmit the virus to others. This change is the result of high vaccination rates among students and employees who are coming to campus and the reduced risk of COVID-19 transmission on campus.
Mohawk will continue to monitor the situation closely and update the campus community if anything changes.
All other PPE requirements and health protocols remain in place, including the mandatory use of college-supplied masks, daily health screening and the requirement to comply with Mohawk’s vaccination policy.
For more information on current health protocols visit the Campus Access section of the COVID-19 website. This information can change so please check the site often to make sure you are up to date on the current requirements.
Thank you for doing your part in keeping the community safe.
September 2, 2021: Getting ready for September 7. Important updates and reminders for students and employees.
On August 31, 2021, the Ministry of Colleges and Universities released the Postsecondary Education Health Measures Framework for Fall 2021. Included in this framework were requirements for postsecondary institutions to have a COVID-19 vaccination policy in place by September 7, 2021, including requirements for providing proof of vaccination, exemptions, testing and an education program.
Mohawk College previously announced a vaccine requirement that complies with the Ministry’s framework. Beginning September 7, 2021, all employees, students, contractors and visitors attending Mohawk College will be required to show proof that they are fully vaccinated with a Health Canada or World Health Organization approved vaccine before entering a Mohawk campus or facility.
Our top priority is your health and safety. Requiring proof of vaccination provides an additional layer of protection to the measures the college has already implemented to provide a safe learning and working environment.
While on campus, or in the community, show respect for others, including those who may have different opinions than you. Please be patient as you enter the campus. Expect delays and long line ups and adjust your schedules accordingly.
Below, you will find important reminders about proof of vaccination and exemptions, as well as updates on Rapid Antigen Testing, the mandatory education program and information to make your first few days on campus easier.
Please read the information carefully and ensure you complete the steps that apply to you.
1. Proof of vaccination status
Proof of vaccination submissions will not be accepted when you arrive to enter the campus. Submissions must be made a minimum of 3 days ahead of time for your proof of vaccination to be reviewed and accepted. If you do not receive vaccination status confirmation ahead of time, you will be denied access to campus.
Those who are not fully vaccinated by September 7 are required to provide proof they have received their first dose of an approved vaccine. These individuals will also be required to do regular Rapid Antigen Testing once every seven days until they are fully vaccinated.
Instructions for submitting proof of vaccination (1st and 2nd dose) have been posted on the COVID-19 update website: How to provide proof of vaccination.
2. Exemptions from the vaccine policy
Students and employees may continue to apply for exemptions from the policy. Exemptions may be granted for medical and non-medical reasons. You must apply for and have your exemption accepted before you will be permitted to enter the campus. Submissions for exemptions will not be accepted when you arrive to enter the campus.
If you have already applied for an exemption, the college is now reviewing your request. Please do not submit another request, as this may delay processing times.
Instructions on how to apply for an exemption have been posted the COVID-19 Update website: website: How to request an exemption.
3. Rapid Antigen Testing clinics
Any individual who is not confirmed as fully vaccinated must complete Rapid Antigen Testing once every seven days. This would include those who are partially vaccinated or have registered and/or been accepted for an exemption.
The testing will either be done at clinics located at Mohawk College campuses, or, through an external service provider. Only students and employees who have been accepted or applied for an exemption or have been confirmed as partially vaccinated will be allowed to access the college clinics.
The costs of external tests will not be covered by the college. If you choose to use an external testing service, you must bring the results to the college Rapid Antigen Testing Clinic for verification and tracking. Please note, test results other than those mentioned will not be accepted.
If you are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19, do not come to campus and do not attempt to access a Rapid Antigen Testing clinic. Instead, please book an appointment to receive a COVID-19 test at a testing centre in your community. For information on testing centre locations in Hamilton, visit the City of Hamilton website.
Locations and hours of operations for Mohawk College Rapid Antigen Testing clinics will be sent directly to accepted individuals by email.
Mohawk College will continue to review the rapid antigen testing process, following federal and provincial guidelines.
4. Mandatory education program
As per provincial guidelines, individuals who receive a non-medical exemption will be required to complete a mandatory education program along with the Rapid Antigen Testing. You do not need to complete the education program prior to September 7. Details about the education program will be communicated to participants directly.
5. Resources to help you navigate your first week on campus.
Visit the Entering Campus Checklist page on the COVID-19 Update site for links and information about downloading the Mohawk Safety App, obtaining a ONE card, designated entrances and parking.

August 16, 2021: Mandatory vaccination requirements for access to campuses
Message from President Ron McKerlie
I look forward to welcoming many of you to our Mohawk College campuses in the coming weeks.
As always, the health and safety of students and employees is our top priority and will continue to be the primary consideration in our decisions as classrooms, labs and workspaces become more active in September.
COVID-19 infections are on the rise again and the best protection against the most serious impacts of infection and outbreaks is through widespread vaccination. We are very fortunate in Canada to have access to effective vaccines.
In an effort to ensure a safe environment for those involved, we previously announced a mandatory vaccination policy for people working and living in the Mohawk Students Residence and for all varsity athletes and employees. Today, in consultation with Public Health authorities, we are expanding that requirement to include all Mohawk College facilities.
As of September 7, 2021, all employees, students, contractors and visitors attending Mohawk College facilities will be required to confirm that they have had at least one dose of a Health Canada or World Health Organization approved vaccine before entering a Mohawk facility. The second dose should be received by October 15, with proof of full vaccination required by no later than October 30, 2021. This requirement will remain in place throughout the 2021-22 academic year.
Previously communicated requirements related to social distancing and PPE (i.e., masks, face shields) remain in place for anyone attending a Mohawk facility.
We recognize this new requirement may pose a challenge for some of you. Vaccination exemptions may be granted to people who have either a medical accommodation or an objection based on disability or creed. More information about the application process for exemptions will be provided by August 23.
People with approved exemptions will be required to be tested regularly and demonstrate a negative COVID-19 result in order to attend their work or lessons on campus.
In an effort to support you through this process, we will be hosting vaccination clinics for people who still need to be vaccinated. You will find dates and times for those services posted on our website in the coming days.
We also recognize that many of our students are joining us from other countries, with different vaccinations available to them. For that reason, we are now recognizing all vaccines approved by Health Canada or by the World Health Organization.
Details on the process for submitting proof of vaccination will also be communicated no later than end of day, Monday August 23, 2021. It is important to communicate this requirement today in order to provide everyone with the opportunity to access the vaccine prior to September 7, 2021.
This decision has been made to maintain a healthy and safe environment for everyone to learn, teach and work in-person at the college as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.
We have had to deal with many changes over the past many months. Thank you for your flexibility as we continue to adapt during this challenging time.
You may have a number of questions. We have tried to anticipate some of them in the COVID-19 FAQ page and will be updating this page regularly.
As mentioned above, information on the process for collecting vaccine information, entry to campus and any other requirements will also be found through the COVID-19 Update webpage. Mohawk social media channels will also be updated regularly.

July 29, 2021: Update on Mohawk College’s plans for the Fall 2021 semester
Mohawk College is looking forward to welcoming more students and employees back to campus this Fall. As conditions improve and pandemic-related restrictions are eased, we are increasingly excited about what the months ahead will bring but remain cautious in our approach to planning for the Fall semester.
We recognize that many students and employees are experiencing mixed emotions about the changes that are taking place right now. Some are excited that life is beginning to return to normal and want the transition to be quick, while others are more cautious and need time to adjust. No matter where you stand on this spectrum, Mohawk is committed to supporting you through this transition.
As always, the health and safety of students and employees remain our top priority and will continue to be the key guiding factor in our decision-making. Mohawk College has successfully continued to have students on campus for required in-person learning since July 2020. We have the experience, and we are prepared to adjust our plans should our situation change.
Our approach for the Fall semester is for it to be a gradual transition back to normal. In consultation with Public Health, we will be easing pandemic restrictions in some areas while maintaining them in others. Our approach, at times, may differ from what is happening in the community, but it will always be consistent with our commitment to providing an exceptional experience for our students and a safe and healthy environment for everyone.
As has been the case throughout this pandemic, there may be times where we need to adjust as we adapt to changing conditions. We ask for your continued patience and understanding as we work through the transition period together.
With this in mind, as we near the start of the Fall semester there are a few important updates we want to share with you.
All Mohawk College campuses will be open in September.
Beginning in September all Mohawk College campuses will be open to students and employees. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will continue to be required, and efforts should be made to maintain physical distancing where it is possible to do so. Access to campus buildings will be limited to specific entrances at each campus, and students and employees will be required to complete a health screening questionnaire, each day they are coming to campus.
The fastest way to complete the daily screening questionnaire is to download the Mohawk Safety App. The questionnaire is available on the app under the COVID-19 section. Completing the questionnaire through the app will allow you to use your ONE card to access the campus by simply tapping your ONE card as you enter the building. Please note that you must correctly enter your student and/or employee number in the personal information section of the questionnaire for the tap function to work. More details on PPE requirements and instructions on how to access campus can be found on the Campus Access section of college’s COVID-19 webpage.
The loosening of access restrictions means every student will have the ability to come to campus to access on-campus services, including libraries and athletic facilities, and supports, including counselling and wellness. In addition to on-campus services, student supports will continue to be available remotely for the Fall semester. Food services will be available for students and employees who are on campus. More details on service availability and hours of operation will be communicated closer to the start of the Fall semester.
Fall 2021 Program Delivery
For the majority of programs, delivery for Fall 2021 will remain the same as what was communicated in the college’s update on June 10, with the majority of programs continuing with a mix of virtual, remote and in-person learning for the Fall semester. More than 70% of Mohawk students will have some component(s) of their learning delivered in-person during the Fall semester. There may be adjustments made throughout the semester to the delivery of some programs with in-person learning as conditions change. Any in-semester changes will be communicated to students directly through their program area.
If you are a student enrolled in a program or course that is being delivered online- only, there is no change to the status of these courses for the Fall semester.
Students are reminded that the status for each Fall 2021 program, including which programs will have in-person requirements, has been posted to the Program Delivery Information page on the college’s website and will continue to be updated if any changes are made.
Full return to normal operations planned for January 2022.
At this time, Mohawk College is planning for a full return to normal operations for January 2022. This means that with the exception of students whose programs are designed to be delivered fully online, the majority of students will be back on campus for all or part of their learning beginning in January.
Detailed planning for January 2022 will begin early in the Fall with more information to follow as the semester progresses.
Non-academic activities and events.
The college is extending the cancellation of all external event rentals until the end of December 2021. Mohawk is considering bringing back a select number of non-academic events to take place in-person during the Fall semester. More details about these events will be shared in the coming weeks.
If conditions continue to improve, the college may begin to allow additional pre-approved non-academic activities and events to return to campus during the Fall semester. Each activity will be assessed and approved on a case-by-case basis. More information, including details on how to request approval for events, will be provided in the coming weeks.
Vaccinations required for students living in Residence.
In order to welcome more students back to the Mohawk College Residence, in consultation with Hamilton Public Health, the college is adopting a mandatory vaccination requirement for all students wishing to stay in the Residence starting in the Fall 2021 semester. International students are reminded that to be considered fully vaccinated, you must have received a vaccine that has been approved by Health Canada. Details on this new requirement have been shared with Residence students and applicants directly.
All students and employees are encouraged to get a COVID-19 vaccine.
High vaccination rates are the quickest way to bring an end to the pandemic in our communities and around the world. Students and employees are not required to be vaccinated prior to coming to campus; however, Mohawk strongly encourages everyone to get a COVID-19 vaccine if they are able to do so. For more on vaccine eligibility or to book an appointment to receive a first or second dose of a vaccine, visit the province’s vaccine booking portal. Please note that you must have an Ontario Health Card to book an appointment through the portal. International students and those without an Ontario Health Card can book an appointment to receive a vaccine by calling the COVID-19 Vaccine Hotline at 905-974-9848, option 7.
Student Wellness is not currently booking vaccination appointments, but is available to support anyone who is having difficulty accessing the vaccines. If you have questions or need support to book your vaccine, please reach out to healthycampus [at] mohawkcollege.ca. International students are also eligible to receive vaccinations and are encouraged to connect with the Student Wellness team if they any questions.
For international students arriving in Canada, it is important to note that only Health Canada approved vaccinations are accepted by the Government of Canada. Students who have received any of the following vaccines a minimum of 14 days prior to their arrival in Canada will be considered to be fully vaccinated:
- Moderna COVID-19 vaccine
- Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine
- AstraZeneca/COVISHIELD COVID-19 vaccine
- Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) COVID-19 vaccine
International students arriving from outside Canada can find more information on the International Students website.

Most lecture-based courses will continue to be delivered virtually, with plans to return more courses to campus for the Winter 2022 semester, if conditions allow. The college’s plan for Fall 2021 is contingent on the successful rollout of the vaccines, the number of cases, and the likelihood that current public health measures will become more relaxed as the year progresses.
The status for each Fall 2021 program, including which programs will have in-person requirements, is now available at the Program Delivery Information webpage.
As always, the health and safety of students and employees remain our top priority and will continue to be the key guiding factor in our decision-making. Mohawk College has successfully continued to have students on campus for required in-person learning since last summer. Any courses, training or activities that take place on campus will continue to fully comply with all government regulations and public health measures.
The transition back to normal operations will take time and may require frequent fine tuning as we adjust to changing conditions. We appreciate the patience and understanding that our students and employees have shown throughout the pandemic and ask for your continued support and patience as we work through the transition period together.
While we are making this information available to students now so that they can have time to plan accordingly, it is important to keep in mind that the situation with the pandemic is constantly evolving. Plans can change on short notice. Students are strongly encouraged to monitor their email and the college’s website for any potential changes to their program.

More information is available on the OCAA’s website.
Spring Convocation ceremonies will be virtual.

Until then, the college will continue to hold virtual Convocation ceremonies.
The Spring 2021 virtual Convocation ceremony, which will be available on the college’s website beginning June 23, will celebrate the achievements of nearly 4,000 graduates as we welcome them into our alumni family. May 14, 2021: Mohawk College will not be running its Summer Camp program in 2021
After careful consideration, Mohawk College has made the difficult decision not to run its Summer Camp program for the 2021 season.
The safety of our campers and staff is our highest priority. As much as we were looking forward to welcoming our campers and counsellors this summer, with uncertainty around guidelines for health screening, cohort sizes and enrolment numbers, the college cannot complete the planning required to safely operate the summer camp program. For these reasons, we are unable to move forward with the camps for the 2021 season.
Mohawk understands that this is disappointing news for parents and campers. We look forward to welcoming our campers and counsellors for the 2022 camp season.
For more information on Mohawk's Summer Camp program visit the Summer Camp website.

As the new “Shutdown” level of restrictions are similar to the current Grey Zone restrictions already in place in the City of Hamilton, there will be no impact to the remainder of the Winter 2021 semester for Mohawk students. Mohawk will remain open for in-person learning with current health and safety protocols in place. Students in programs that were required to adjust their delivery in order to meet the requirements of the Grey zone designation earlier this week have already been notified.

March 31, 2021: Fall 2021 Semester Plans
Dear Students and Colleagues,
As we come to the end of what has been a challenging year for everyone, I am happy to be able to share with you some good news about Mohawk College’s Fall 2021 semester.
After closely watching the situation with COVID-19 in Hamilton and across the province these past few weeks, and taking into consideration the planned pace of vaccine rollouts and the likelihood that public health measures will become more relaxed as the year progresses, we are confident that we will be bringing more students and employees back to campus for classes and labs, and other on-campus activities this September.
After such a long time apart, we are very much looking forward to seeing many more students, faculty and staff back on campus this Fall. We are aware that this message is coming to you after Hamilton re-entered Lockdown on Monday. It is important to keep in mind that our Fall 2021 plans are not based on where we are today but where we think we will be come September. As we have learned throughout this pandemic, the situation can change on short notice. Our plans are flexible and we will be ready to adapt to any changes that may come along the way.
The health and safety of students and employees remain our top priority and will continue to be the key guiding factor in our decision-making. Mohawk College was among the first to welcome students back to campus in July 2020, and we have safely and successfully continued to have students on campus for required in-person learning throughout the Fall 2020 and Winter 2021 semesters. Any courses, training or activities that take place on campus will continue to fully comply with all government regulations and public health measures.
Details on Fall 2021 program delivery will be posted to the Program Delivery webpage as soon as the information becomes available.
Virtual and remote learning
We have heard from students and employees that the mix of virtual and remote learning, in-person delivery and online service the college has been providing since the pandemic began has allowed a degree of flexibility that did not previously exist. Our faculty and staff have worked hard to develop new techniques and adopt new technologies that have enhanced the experience for our students over the past 12 months. The lessons we have learned will guide our decisions as we consider the current and future needs of our students and the communities we serve.
In-person services and supports
As we plan to bring more people back to campus, the college will also need to bring back more on-campus services to support a higher level of activity on campus. The college is developing a process to determine which services and supports will be necessary and the timing of when those services will become available.
Bringing employees back to campus
To support an increase in activity in the Fall, the college will begin to gradually bring some employees, who are currently working remotely, back to campus. At this time, only those employees who are required to support the increased activity on campus will be returning for September. Employees who are not required to be on campus will continue to work remotely. Just as the transition to working remotely was a big change, we recognize that returning to campus will be a significant change as well. We understand that employees will need time to re-adjust and these decisions will not be rushed. Any employee who will be required to return to campus will be notified well in advance of the anticipated return date to ensure they have enough time to plan accordingly and have the supports they need to make a smooth transition. Our HR team is planning a thorough return-to-work framework that will involve discussions between managers and employees at the department level. This framework will be shared with all employees in the coming weeks.
COVID-19 Vaccination
Mohawk College encourages students and employees to take advantage of the COVID-19 vaccines that are being made available through local health units. At this time, there is no requirement to be vaccinated prior to coming to campus. Any decision regarding mandatory vaccination would be made by the province. You can find details about Hamilton’s vaccine distribution plan, including which groups are currently eligible to receive the vaccine, on the City of Hamilton's website.
Non-academic activities and events
The college is extending the cancellation of all in-person events and facility rentals on and off campus until the end of August 2021. If conditions allow, the college will begin to allow some non-academic activities and events to return to campus beginning in September. The college is developing a framework to determine which activities will be prioritized for a return to campus. More details on this will be available closer to the start of the Fall semester.
Mohawk Summer Camp
Mohawk College is a community college. We know that this year has been a struggle for parents and families in our community. To support increasing demand for child care during the summer months, and if conditions allow, the college will be offering its popular Mohawk Summer Camp this July and August. The camp will follow the province’s COVID-19 Guidance for Summer Day Camps that includes clear and defined health and safety requirements, such as screening, physical distancing and cohorting, personal hygiene, cleaning protocols and face coverings. Camps will be modified and space will be limited to ensure the college adheres to all health and safety requirements. If conditions do not support the opening of Summer Camps, the college will announce that decision before registration opens on May 1.
I want to acknowledge and thank our amazing faculty and staff who have dedicated themselves to ensuring our students continue to receive a quality education and exceptional service these past 12 months.
I also want to acknowledge our extraordinary students and the incredible strength and resilience they have shown since this pandemic began. You inspire us and give us confidence that our future is in good hands.
We look forward to welcoming more students and employees back to campus as we begin to return to a more normal way of learning and working together.

Three other affected students each last attended classes on the campus on Wednesday, March 24, 2021. All entry and safety protocols were followed while the students were on campus. Public Health officials have deemed that there is a connection between the cases but that connection is not related to their time on campus; there were no close contacts linked to their time on campus.
All affected students and Mohawk College have been cooperating with Public Health officials in relation to these cases and the affected students have been instructed to isolate.
It is vital that personal health information and identifiers are not released, and the privacy of everyone involved is respected.

March 25, 2021: Changes to requirements for personal protective equipment at Mohawk College campuses
Beginning Friday, March 26, Mohawk College is changing the requirements for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to include the use of college-supplied face masks and face shields. The college has also updated the Daily Health Screening questionnaire that must be completed before coming to campus each day.
The changes to PPE requirements are based on the recommendation of Public Health officials in response to the increase in the number of cases involving the COVID-19 variants of concern being reported in our community. The PPE changes being implemented offer an additional layer of protection against these variants and will help to minimize disruption to face-to-face learning on campus.
The changes and updates are as follows:
Use of college-supplied face masks will be mandatory
Mohawk College will be providing disposable face masks to all students, employees and visitors arriving on campus. You will be required to wear the college-supplied masks at all times while on campus. The masks will be available at the security check-in desks and must be worn while on campus. You may request a new mask at any time. Please continue to wear your own mask while travelling to and from the college. Please refer to the Health Protocols section of our website for information on how to safely put on and remove face masks and other required PPE.
Face shields to be required while in classes and labs until the end of the semester
In addition to wearing a face mask, all students, employees and visitors to campus will be required to wear a face shield while in classrooms and labs, or any space where it is not always possible to maintain a physical distance of 2 metres (6 feet). The requirement to wear face shields along with face masks will remain in place until the end of the Winter 2021 semester, at which time it will be reviewed. While the college encourages the use of face shields in addition to wearing a face mask at all times while on campus, they are not mandatory in spaces where physical distancing can be maintained such as hallways and common areas.
If you are coming to campus, Mohawk College will provide you with your first face shield free of charge. The face shields will be distributed at a location near the security check-in desks at each campus. If you lose the face shield that has been provided to you, you will receive a replacement, the cost of which will be charged to your account. Students and employees in programs that are required to wear impact-resistant face shields due to occupational health and safety requirements will be provided with PPE that meets these requirements.
Updates to Daily Health Screening Questions
The college has updated the Daily Health Screening questionnaire that all students, employees and visitors to campus are required to complete each day they come to campus, before they arrive on campus. The questionnaire is available on the Mohawk Safety App under the COVID-19 section. It is important that you are honest in your answers in the screening questionnaire. Remember, if you do not pass the screening or if you are experiencing symptoms, do not come to campus. The results of your screening are emailed to you and to Mohawk Security. The questions are also available under the Mandatory Daily Health Screening section of the COVID-19 page on our website.
Health and Safety is everyone’s responsibility
In order for our college to remain compliant with Public Health guidelines, all college protocols and safety measures need to be followed. Mohawk expects all students and employees to recognize the impact of their actions and to prioritize the health and safety of all community members. Students and employees who do not comply with these necessary Public Health and safety standards will be managed through the Student Behaviour Policy and Human Resources, respectively.

February 26, 2021 - Update from Mohawk College following Hamilton’s move into the Red-CONTROL Zone
On February 16, the City of Hamilton moved into the “Red-CONTROL Zone” as defined by Ontario’s colour-coded COVID-19 Response Framework. While the updated zone designation results in a loosening of public health restrictions for the city, there will be little change to how we educate and serve our students for the remainder of the Winter 2021 semester. Maintaining our current operating status will enable the college to respond quickly to sudden changes in the city’s status due to an increase in the number of cases.
This means:
- Virtual and remote classes will continue as scheduled.
- Mohawk College will remain open for in-person instruction with the current limit on the number of people in instructional spaces remaining at 10, including faculty, with a few exceptions. If your program is one of the exceptions your program area will share the details with you directly.
- Access to campus remains restricted to students who are required to be on campus for in-person training and employees who are required for the delivery of academic programs or essential campus services.
- All services and supports will continue to be available to students remotely.
- Co-op and Placement activities will continue as planned or as directed by your program area.
Spring/Summer 2021 Semester
As announced on January 21, the start of the Spring/Summer semester for most full-time programs will be delayed to Monday, May 10, 2021. The delay applies to new and returning students at all semester levels. Different timelines may apply to programs on the Exceptions Calendar. Further program exceptions may be required due to external standards, and field and clinical placements. Programs with exceptions will be posted to the Exceptions Calendar as soon as the dates have been determined. For all other programs, the start dates and details such as which programs will have in-person components will be posted to the Program Delivery webpage as soon as the information is available. At this time, the plan for the Spring/Summer semester remains to deliver courses through a combination of remote/virtual learning and required in-person delivery. More details will be provided closer to the start of the semester.
Fall 2021 Semester
We will be notifying the college community of our plans for the Fall 2021 semester by March 31. While we are hopeful the situation will improve enough that we will be able to offer more opportunities for in-person learning and to return more employees to campus by the Fall, we expect there will still be some restrictions in place that will limit our on-campus activities. Programs that have in-person training requirements, can expect to be on-campus for those components of the courses. Any in-person training received will be done in a safe and responsible manner, and in accordance with government regulations and public health guidelines.
A great experience, no matter where or how you learn.
Whether you are learning in-person or through remote or virtual delivery, you will have opportunities to learn together with your peers and develop the skills and abilities required for your future career. If you are new to college, the virtual and remote learning you experience at Mohawk may be significantly different from your previous experiences. You can learn more about it by visiting our virtual and remote learning page.

January 21, 2021: Spring/Summer Semester to be Delayed
The start of the Spring/Summer semester for most full-time programs will be delayed to Monday, May 10, 2021. The delay applies to new and returning students at all semester levels. Delaying the start of the Spring/Summer semester will help to manage unexpected delays or disruptions to the Winter semester due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Courses for the Spring/Summer semester will continue to be delivered through a combination of remote/virtual learning and required in-person delivery, just as the college has done for the Fall 2020 and Winter 2021 semesters.
As a result of the delayed start, the final day of classes for the Spring/Summer semester will be Friday, August 13, with exams taking place from Saturday, August 14 to Saturday, August 21. The summer reading week will remain as scheduled for the week of June 28 to July 2. Different timelines may apply to programs on the Exceptions Calendar, including Continuing Education, City School, collaborative programs, accredited programs and apprenticeship programs. Further program exceptions may be required due to external standards, and field and clinical placements. Programs with exceptions will be posted to the Exceptions Calendar as soon as the dates have been determined. For all other programs, the start dates and details such as which programs will have in-person components will be posted to the Program Delivery webpage at as soon as the information is available. This information will also be shared with students directly through their program area.
Any student, domestic or international, who will be travelling outside of Canada, is required to inform the College of their plans. Please see the Entering Canada website for further details.
International students who are travelling to Canada are encouraged to continue monitoring the Entering Canada website for important information and updates related to their travel.

January 13, 2021: Mohawk not affected by new restrictions announced January 12
On Tuesday, January 12, the Ontario government declared a new State of Emergency to address the impact of COVID-19 on the province. In addition to the emergency declaration, the government has also issued a Stay-at-Home order that will take effect beginning Thursday, Jan. 14.
The college has confirmed that the current measures and restrictions announced yesterday will not impact the Winter 2021 semester for the vast majority of Mohawk students.
- Virtual and remote classes will continue as scheduled.
- Mohawk College will remain open for in-person instruction with the current limit on the number of people in instructional spaces remaining at 10, including faculty. Health Sciences programs at the IAHS campus and designated programs at the Fennell continue to be exempt from the 10-person requirement.
- Travel to and from campus for the purposes of attending in-person learning or supporting the delivery of in-person learning is deemed as essential and is not subject to the province’s Stay-at-Home order.
- Co-op and Placement activities will continue without interruption unless advised by the co-op specialist or field placement specialist assigned to the program.
- Students will receive more information from their program directly if there are any impacts to their in-person classes or labs.
- Access to campus remains restricted to students who are required to be on campus for in-person training and employees who are required for the delivery of academic programs or essential campus services.
- All services and supports will continue to be available to students remotely.
As always, regulations are subject to change on short notice. We will update you if the situation changes.
Health and Safety remains our top priority
If you are required to come to campus it is important to know that your health and safety is our top priority and has remained a key guiding factor in our decision-making since the pandemic began last March. The protocols and procedures the college has put in place have helped to limit the spread of the virus within the campus community. These measures were developed in consultation with local public health authorities and comply with all current regulations and guidelines mandated by provincial and federal public health authorities. All areas in use at the college continue to be reviewed, monitored and assessed to ensure that they are following protocol.
We must all continue to do our part
Everyone looks forward to the day when we can start to return to a more normal way of life. That day will come. Vaccinations have begun and though we still have a way to go, the end is in sight. Right now, the best we can all do is to keep doing our part to help reduce the spread of this virus. This means following the regulations and obeying the directives of our public health authorities. Stay home, if you are not required to be out for school or work, and when you do need to go out, practice physical distancing, wear a mask and wash or sanitize your hands often.
We’re here for you, but let’s all be there for each other.
We understand there is a lot of uncertainty right now and this can make people feel more anxious and stressed than usual. As a college, we remain committed to supporting our students and employees through these difficult times, but it is also important for us to support and look out for each other.
Remember that you are not alone. If you are feeling overwhelmed, ask for help. If you think someone is overwhelmed, please reach out and offer help.
Counselling services are available, Monday to Friday
Students can email: counselling [at] mohawkcollege.ca or call 905-575-2211.
Employees who require counselling services can access the college’s Employee & Family Assistance Program (EFAP). January 12, 2020: Ontario declares State of Emergency
The Ontario government today announced a new State of Emergency.
We are seeking more information from the province to determine if there are any additional impacts to Ontario’s postsecondary education sector as a result of today’s announcement.
More details will be communicated as soon as the information becomes available.
Please visit this site for the most recent updates.
December 18, 2020: City of Hamilton Entering Lockdown beginning Monday, December 21, 2020
On Monday, December 21, the City of Hamilton will move into the “Grey” or Lockdown zone, as defined by Ontario’s COVID-19 Response Framework “Keeping Ontario Safe and Open”. The lockdown will remain in place until Sunday, January 17, at which time it will be reassessed and may be extended if conditions do not improve.
Update: On Monday, December 21, the Province of Ontario announced the Lockdown would be expanded to include all of Ontario beginning, Saturday, December 26 until Saturday, January 23. For more information, please visit Ontario.ca COVID-19 public health measures and advice.
For the majority of Mohawk students, the change in status will not impact the Winter 2021 semester. With some exceptions, virtual and remote classes will begin as planned on Wednesday, January 6 and continue for the duration of the semester. A full list of program start dates is available on Winter 2021 Program Delivery.
Apprenticeship training resumes Monday, January 4. For more information on Ministry Funded Apprenticeship Training Dates.
Mohawk College will remain open for in-person instruction; however, due to new provincial regulations that take effect as a result of the Lockdown, the college must limit the number of people in instructional spaces to 10, including faculty.
As a result of this requirement, Mohawk needs to adjust its in-person instruction for the Winter semester. Students will receive more information from their program directly if these changes impact their in-person classes or labs. Any necessary changes will remain in place for the duration of the Lockdown, unless the guidance from public health changes.
Some programs at Mohawk are exempt from the 10-person limit and will continue as previously scheduled. This includes all programs delivered at the Institute for Applied Health Sciences (IAHS) campus, as well as the following programs delivered at the Fennell campus: Recreation Therapy, Massage Therapy, Health, Wellness & Fitness, Social Service Worker, Concurrent Disorders.
It is important to note that regulations are subject to frequent change, and could possibly be amended again as the situation evolves. Mohawk will respond as appropriate in step with provincial regulations, while ensuring students continue to receive a quality educational experience that meets program learning outcomes.
The health and safety of our campus community is our highest priority. We must all continue to do our part to keep our campuses and the Hamilton community safe. Please consider the choices you make carefully. Follow the direction of our Public Health authorities and understand what you need to do to keep yourself and the people you care about safe.
Access to campus for the Winter semester will continue to follow the established screening protocols. Please make sure you understand these protocols before you come to campus. For details visit: Campus Access.

December 3, 2020: Important Update from Mohawk College including plans for 2021
With the end of Fall semester approaching, we want to provide you with some important updates on the college’s plans for the Winter and Spring/Summer semesters, and keep you informed about how changes to the public measures in Hamilton may affect the college. This update also includes important reminders about following protocols on campus, the status of events and activities to June 2021 and a reminder about where to go for information related to campus closures due to winter storms.
Winter 2021 Semester Start and Delivery
Classes for the Winter 2021 semester will begin as planned on Wednesday, January 6 with most programs being delivered remotely for the duration of the semester. In most cases, programs with required in-person components (e.g., labs, simulations, assessments) will also be delivered remotely for the first two weeks and will begin required in-person delivery the week of January 18. Any exceptions will be communicated directly to impacted students by the appropriate School by December 8. This includes students in skilled trades and apprenticeship programs who will be receiving more information directly from their programs. The two-week delay for the majority of in-person training will allow anyone who travelled over the Holiday break as well as international students arriving or returning to Canada the opportunity to self-isolate and limit the spread of COVID-19.
Co-ops and placements, whether in-person or virtual, will resume on their scheduled date. If you have questions about your placement or co-op, please contact your Co-op Specialist or Field Placement Coordinator directly.
Employees who are scheduled to be on campus but who are able to work from home until January 18 are encouraged to do so to limit the number of people on campus and in the community.
For the Winter semester, access to campus will remain restricted to students who are required to be on campus for in-person training, and employees who are required for the delivery of academic programs or campus services.
Resources for students completing their studies online
Students who will be completing their studies online next semester are encouraged to check out the Future Ready Toolkit which provides important orientation support and information on virtual and remote learning, technical tips and college services. You can access online resources.
The college has also developed a free dedicated module that includes a broad range of skill development that is customized to the current learning environment. Students can access this module through the MyCanvas learning platform.
What if Hamilton goes into lockdown?
At this time, colleges and universities are not required to close in the event that Hamilton is moved into lockdown. The college continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide an update if anything changes.
In anticipation of the higher number of COVID-19 cases in the community and the potential for additional public health measures, the college has developed contingency plans for a number of different scenarios related to in-person instruction. In all scenarios, the college’s top priorities are the health and well-being of students and employees and to limit the spread of the virus within the campus community. The scenarios considered include temporary, short-term suspension of in-person classes for a specific program, up to the closure of an entire campus. If any of these situations arise, the college will work to ensure students are able to complete the in-person requirements of their programs.
It is important to note that remote and virtual instruction would not be impacted by any closure and will continue as planned.
Health and Safety is everyone’s responsibility.
In order for our college to continue operating with in-person training and instruction, college protocols and safety measures must be followed. The college expects all students and employees to recognize the impact of their actions and to prioritize the health and safety of all community members. Students and employees who do not comply with these necessary Public Health and safety standards will be managed through the Student Behaviour Policy and Human Resources, respectively.
Please continue to assess your health daily. If you are visiting a Mohawk College campus, respond to the assessment questions honestly on your Mohawk Safety app as part of the entry process. You can find more information on the protocols and procedures for accessing the campus at the link below.

Plans for Spring/Summer 2021
Courses will continue to be delivered through a combination of remote/virtual learning and in-person delivery for the Spring/Summer 2021 semester, just as the college has done for the Fall 2020 semester and will be doing for the Winter 2021 semester. This means that for the Spring/Summer semester, beginning Monday, May 3, all lecture-based program components will continue to be delivered in a remote/virtual environment while all required face-to-face instruction (e.g., labs, simulations, assessments, etc.) will continue to be provided on campus. The college will not make a decision on the status of the Fall 2021 semester until later in the Winter semester.
It is important to note that Mohawk’s plans for the Winter and Spring/Summer semesters continue to based on current information. These plans are flexible and the college remains ready to respond to any changes that may come in the weeks and months ahead.
College to hold Virtual Convocation ceremonies in February and June 2021
Due to ongoing restrictions on gathering sizes, Mohawk will be holding virtual Convocation ceremonies in February and June 2021. The February Virtual Convocation will be for students who will be graduating in Winter 2021. Also included will be students who graduated in February 2020 and June 2020. The Virtual Convocation ceremony will go live online on Wednesday, February 24 at 11 a.m. The link to the site will be shared closer to the date. Graduates will also receive an email with more details including instructions on how to upload photos to be shared as part of the virtual Convocation ceremony. Credentials will be mailed to graduates in late February. The date for the June Convocation will be shared at a later date.
Events and activities cancelled until the end of June 2021
The college is extending the cancellation of all events and facility rentals on and off campus until the end of June 2021. Internal events will continue to be run virtually.
Coming to campus this winter? Where to go for information when threatening weather approaches.
Closing campuses due to inclement weather is not a decision the college takes lightly. Mohawk will only close campuses when normal operations would pose a danger to students and employees while on campus or would prevent large numbers of them from coming to campus or returning safely to their homes.
The best way to learn about campus snow closures is to sign up for Mohawk’s SAM (Security Alert Messenger) service. SAM uses text messages, social media, the college website, email and local media to quickly inform students and employees that the college is closed. SAM is also used for other emergencies that require rapid communication with the college community.
Please note that virtual and remote classes are not affected by weather-related campus closures and will continue as scheduled. Mohawk will continue to run virtually during a campus snow closure.

November 16, 2020: Designated Learning Institution & International student travel guidance
Mohawk College will be able to start welcoming new and returning international students to Canada as of November 17, following confirmation from the federal government.
The College COVID-19 Readiness Plan was approved and the federal government has confirmed that Mohawk College will be included on the official Designated Learning Institutions (DLI) list as of November 17, which will be posted on the IRCC website.
Since August, Mohawk College has been preparing to support new and returning international students in advance of its listing on the approved DLI list. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada amended travel restrictions on October 20, allowing international students to enter Canada if their Designated Learning Institution has an approved COVID-19 Readiness Plan in place. Updates and more specific information about the amendments and conditions around travel can be found on the IRCC website.
International students will need to have an approved study permit to travel to Canada and may do so if their program is being offered in a hybrid or virtual delivery method. They are no longer required to have an essential travel letter of support to travel to Canada for studies at Mohawk. The College will continue to welcome students who wish to study overseas in the upcoming semester; these students will also require a study permit to study at Mohawk.
We look forward to welcoming many Mohawk international students in the coming weeks, as they make their way to Canada to be closer and more connected to the college community.
Note that self-isolation and testing requirements are still mandatory for all students arriving from outside Canada. It is also mandatory for international students arriving to inform the International Department about their travel and quarantine plans through the iCent App. More information on self-isolation and COVID-19 testing requirements can be found on the Entering Canada website.
Current students who have further questions about returning for their studies can email international.services [at] mohawkcollege.ca. New students, who will begin their studies in January, can find support with their traveling and transition process by contacting a market specialist or the arrivals [at] mohawkcollege.ca (student arrivals coordinator).
Further information about travelling to Canada to join us at Mohawk College can be found at Frequently Asked Questions for International Students.
November 14, 2020: COVID-19 Update – City of Hamilton Entering the Red Zone
On Monday, November 16, the City of Hamilton will move into the “Red Zone” as defined by Ontario’s New COVID-19 Response Framework “Keeping Ontario Safe and Open”. One of the stated priorities of the new framework is keeping schools open and as such, there is no indication that postsecondary institutions are required to close upon entering the Red Zone. There will be no change to how we educate and serve our students.
As under all stages, post-secondary institutions under the Red Zone are required to take precautions and operate in accordance with public health guidance. With the increased numbers of COVID-19 cases in Ontario, we want to keep you informed and let you know that at this time there have been no deemed cases of transmission on campus, which means that even though there may have been multiple positive cases on a campus or even in the same class, public health confirmed that the transmission did not occur between two students. It is very important that we remain diligent in all we do to help reduce the spread of the virus.
Access to campus will continue to follow the established screening protocols. Human Resources and Student Wellness are in contact with Hamilton Public Health on a regular basis and actively follow up on any suspected cases. All activities on campus have had hazard risk assessments conducted and standard operating procedures are in place and are being followed. It is also important to note that regulations are subject to frequent change, and could possibly be amended again in future as the situation evolves. We will respond as appropriate in step with provincial regulations.

All mask-wearing, PPE requirements and distancing procedures were followed while they were on campus. The area where the students attended are being deep cleaned.
The students and Mohawk College have been cooperating with Public Health officials in relation to this situation. Hamilton Public Health Services has indicated there are no college-related close contacts with these individuals and therefore no risk to the college community. October 21, 2020 - Update for International Students
The following information was shared with international students and applicants on Tuesday, October 20, 2020, following the beginning of the federal government's amended travel restrictions.
Canada will soon be accepting international students again and Mohawk College is looking forward to welcoming you to our college.
Please note that students who are coming to Canada will only be allowed to travel to Canada to attend colleges that have had their COVID-19 Readiness Plans processed and approved by the Government of Canada. Mohawk expects to be included on the list of designated colleges very soon, once government backlogs are cleared. Our Readiness Plan clearly demonstrates Mohawk’s commitment to ensuring the health and safety of its students by supporting all students from pre-arrival through quarantine and through the course of their studies.
While we await the formal approvals, it is important for you to know that you can continue to study from overseas or make your commitment to start your semester with Mohawk in January. Please do not make any travel arrangements until you have formally heard from the college about your ability to travel to Canada. We will provide this information as soon as the approval is granted.
While borders are opening, it is important to understand that most courses at colleges and universities across Canada continue to be offered through a combination of virtual and hybrid learning. For the January semester, Mohawk is only offering in-person learning for courses where students must be in class for required simulations, labs and assessments. All other learning will be virtual. Once our Readiness Plan is approved, you may travel to Canada if your program is hybrid or virtual delivery and if you have a valid study permit.
We recognize that you may be anxious while you wait for updates and confirmation from Mohawk so that you can make your travel plans. We are dedicated to assisting you in this process and we remain committed to helping you to fulfill your educational plans in Canada.
We know that it is difficult to remain patient under these circumstances. We will continue to regularly update you through our website, FAQs, social media and direct e-mails with all of the relevant information. We look forward to welcoming you to our campus very soon.

October 7, 2020 - St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton to open new COVID-19 Testing Centre at Mohawk College
Beginning Friday, October 23, 2020, the N Wing at Mohawk College’s Fennell campus will become the new location for a COVID-19 Testing Centre operated by St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton. The Mohawk College location will be in addition to the Testing Centres already available throughout Hamilton and will be staffed by St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton.
Here is what you need to know about the new Testing Centre at the Fennell Campus:
- The N Wing was chosen because it is self-contained and physically separated from the main campus building. See attached map for location.
- Parking for the Testing Centre will be restricted to the P4 lot (directly across from the N Wing opposite the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre). P4 will be off limits to students and employees for as long as the Testing Centre remains open.
- No one from the Testing Centre will be permitted access to Mohawk’s main campus buildings. St. Joseph’s Healthcare will be installing temporary signage to direct the public to the N Wing location.
- Access to the Testing Centre is by appointment only. The location is expected to accommodate from 400-500 appointments daily. It will operate on a daytime schedule to include weekends. Please refer to Hamilton Public Health’s Testing Centre webpage for testing centre locations, hours of operation and instructions on how to book an appointment.
- Mohawk College is not providing tests and is not involved in the day-to-day operations of the Testing Centre.
- Access to the N Wing building is to be controlled by St. Joseph’s Healthcare. The building will be off limits to students and employees for as long as the Testing Centre remains open. Employees with offices in N Wing have been notified and arrangements made for the removal or storage or personal items and college equipment.

September 25, 2020 - Confirmed COVID-19 Case at Mohawk College
In an effort to keep you informed of relevant changes related to Health & Safety, there has been a confirmed positive COVID-19 case associated with Mohawk’s Stoney Creek Campus.
The affected person is working with the public health authority in their place of residence and following the prescribed protocols. Mohawk College is working with Public Health officials to facilitate case and contact tracing.
Anyone who is considered to be at risk of infection through contact with this person will be contacted by Public Health authorities. It is vital that personal health information and identifiers are not released, and the privacy of everyone involved is respected.
Please continue to assess your health daily and, if you are visiting a Mohawk College campus, respond to the assessment questions honestly on your Mohawk Safety app as part of the entry process. If you are feeling ill, stay home and consult a physician.
The process of acquiring a COVID-19 test has recently changed in the Hamilton area. COVID-19 testing is now available by appointment only to decrease wait times, ensure an orderly flow and to protect patients and staff by ensuring a safe physical space can be provided at the sites. Learn more on how to book an appointment.
We understand that you may have questions and we want to assure you that we take your safety very seriously. You can find college information, updates and support contacts related to COVID-19.
In an effort to help support community-wide health, it is also recommended that you download the Government of Canada’s COVID Alert app. Available on iTunes and Google Play, the app lets users know of possible exposure to the virus before symptoms appear. COVID Alert uses Bluetooth to exchange random codes with nearby phones. Every day, the app checks a list of random codes from people who tell the app if they have tested positive. If you’ve been near one of those codes in the past 14 days, you’ll get a notification. Learn more about the COVID Alert app.
“Mohawk students and employees have been doing an excellent job in following safety protocols on campus and in off-campus learning and teaching situations but we will not be immune from COVID-19 infections as numbers begin to climb across the province. We must continue to keep our guard up, following the protocols of the college and of placement partners, and be mindful to protect ourselves and those around us from infection as best we can.”
– Mohawk College President Ron McKerlie

September 24, 2020: Health and Safety is Everyone's Responsibility
The health and safety of our campus and the broader Hamilton community is a shared responsibility. By following the direction of Public Health authorities and adhering to safety protocols on campus, at placements and in the community, we can all do our part to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
Below are some important reminders, tips and resources to help you stay healthy and safe this semester.
1. Are you required to be on campus this semester?
If you are required to be on campus for in-person training you must have a ONE Card to access the campus.
Students who need a ONE Card must submit a photo online. The ONE Card office will contact you to arrange for a curbside pickup of your new card. Pick up locations are available at Fennell, Stoney Creek and IAHS. Replacement cards can be obtained by submitting a request through the ONE Card Replacement Request Form.
2. Mandatory daily health screening for everyone coming to campus
If you are required to attend campus for in-person training you must complete the daily screening questionnaire, on the day you are coming to campus. This questionnaire is available on the Mohawk Safety App under the COVID-19 section. The results of your screening will be emailed to you and to Mohawk Security.
If you do not pass the health screening or if you are experiencing any symptoms, do not come to campus.
Students who are unable to attend campus or complete any course work due to illness should contact their faculty directly.
3. What to do if you test positive for COVID-19 or have symptoms consistent with the virus?
Get tested if you think you have symptoms of COVID-19
COVID-19 testing is available by appointment through Hamilton Public Health. For details on how to book an appointment visit Hamilton Coronavirus Assessment Centres.
Report confirmed or suspected COVID-19 cases to Mohawk College
Mohawk College is asking that students and employees who have tested positive for COVID-19 or have had symptoms that are consistent with COVID-19 to complete an online COVID-19 Self Disclosure Form. All the information you share will be kept confidential.
4. If you are arriving from outside Canada you MUST self-isolate and get tested.
For students arriving from outside Canada be sure to visit the Campus Re-opening page for important information regarding self-isolation and COVID-19 testing requirements.
What you need to do to keep safe:
Understand and follow Ontario’s rules for social gatherings
On Saturday, September 19, the Province of Ontario capped the size of unmonitored and private social gatherings across the province. Under the new rules, the maximum number of people allowed at an indoor event or gathering is 10, while the maximum number of people allowed at an outdoor gathering or event is 25. Indoor and outdoor events cannot be merged to increase numbers. These rules apply to events such as house parties. Visit Limitations on social gatherings in Ontario for more information.
Wear a Mask or Face Covering
The use of masks and face coverings is mandatory in the City of Hamilton and at all of Mohawk College’s campuses and learning hubs.
Wash Your Hands and Cover Your Cough
Wash your hands frequently with soap and water, or use hand sanitizer when hand washing is not available. Cover coughs and sneezes with your sleeve or a tissue.
Practice Physical Distancing
Stay 2 metres (6 feet) apart from others, and avoid gatherings where physical distancing is not taking place. If you are at a social gathering, be safe and do not share things such as drinks, cigarettes, vaping devices and other related items.
Free Resource:
Download the Government of Canada’s COVID Alert app

September 9, 2020: Important Update on Mohawk College’s plans for the Winter 2021 semester
After careful consideration, Mohawk College has made the decision to continue delivering programs through a combination of remote/virtual learning and in-person delivery for the Winter semester, just as we are this Fall. This means that for the Winter semester beginning in January 2021, all lecture-based program components will continue to be delivered in a remote/virtual environment while all required face-to-face deliveries (eg. labs, simulations, assessments, etc.) will continue to be delivered on campus.
The health and well-being of our students and employees continues to be our highest priority and has been the key guiding factor in our decision-making process since the pandemic began. By minimizing the number of people on our campuses, we can help reduce the risk of the virus spreading within our campus community. We were successful with this approach during the return to campus for the Spring/Summer semester pilot and we are confident this is the best plan given the current situation with the virus in Ontario.
It is important to note that our plans for the Fall and Winter semesters are based on current information. As we have seen in other parts of the world, the situation with COVID-19 can change quickly. We need to remain flexible and be ready to respond to any changes that may come in the weeks and months ahead.
If you are joining us on campus this Fall, please make sure you understand the health and safety measures that have been put in place. More information on these measures can be found at: campus access.
To support students who are learning in a virtual/remote environment, we have developed a dedicated module that is available free to all students. This module includes a broad range of skill development that is customized to the current learning environment. You can access this module through the MyCanvas learning platform.
If you have not already done so, we encourage you to check out the Future Ready Toolkit which provides important orientation support and information on virtual and remote learning, technical tips and college services. You can access this online resource in Future Ready Toolkit.
If you need some extra help, we are here for you. Our counsellors, financial aid officers, academic advisors and learning support team are all available online or by telephone. You can learn more about the services available by visiting Current Students page.
Whether you are learning online or in-person, we are committed to supporting you through these challenging times.
We also ask that you do your part to keep our campuses and the Hamilton community safe. Part of the college experience is meeting new friends and connecting with others outside of the learning environment. We get it. We were students once too. COVID-19 has changed our lives, and we all have a responsibility to look out for each other, and to do our part to limit the spread of this virus. Please consider the choices you make carefully. Follow the direction of our Public Health authorities and understand what you need to do to keep you and the people you care about safe.

COVID-19 Update: July 23, 2020 – What does Stage 3 mean for Mohawk College?
Last week, Premier Doug Ford announced plans for parts of Ontario to move into Stage 3 of the province's re-opening plan. The City of Hamilton will enter Stage 3 on Friday, July 24. This is the next stage in the province’s re-opening plan.
Stage 3 allows for many businesses and services to re-open with measures in place to protect Ontarians. For Mohawk, Stage 3 supports our commitment to the previously announced phased re-opening of our campuses. Mohawk will not resume full on-campus operations in the Fall. The college’s priority remains to ensure students can complete their coursework and academic programming and to provide the services and supports they need to be successful. Campuses will re-open in phases as planned, with access to campuses continuing to be by approval only until the end of December 2020.
Summer and Fall semesters to continue as planned.
The Spring/Summer semester will continue as planned. The Fall semester will begin as planned in early September with all lecture-based program components to be delivered in a remote/virtual environment while required labs, simulations and assessments will be delivered on campus. A full list of programs including details on how they are to be delivered can be found here: Fall 2020 program delivery
Masks and face coverings are now mandatory in Hamilton.
As of July 20, 2020, the wearing of a mask or face covering in an enclosed premise is required within the City of Hamilton. The mask or face covering must cover your nose, mouth and chin, without gapping. For more information, please refer to Face Coverings and Mask by Law - Hamilton City Council.
With the exception of programs where Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be required, Mohawk College will not be providing masks to students or employees.
If you require accommodation with wearing a mask, please contact equityandinclusion [at] mohawkcollege.ca.
In-person training to be capped at 50 people.
Under Stage 3 the maximum number of people that can gather indoors is capped at 50. This means the maximum number of students, faculty and staff in a lab or classroom setting will be capped at 50 people as long as a physical distance of 2 metres (6 feet) can be maintained. If physical distancing is not possible all participants will be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) that is appropriate for the circumstances. This PPE will be provided by the college.
Limited on-campus services may become available starting in September.
If the City of Hamilton remains at Stage 3 in September, the college may re-open some on-campus services. This may include limited food service and some in-person student services. Details on which services will be available and the hours of operation will be posted to: Campus Access.
Events remain cancelled to the end of December.
All external facility rentals remain cancelled until the end of December 2020. Internal events will continue to be run virtually.
Athletics and recreation facilities to remain closed.
The David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre (DBARC) and all other fitness and recreation facilities will remain closed until further notice. Varsity sports for the Fall 2020 semester remain suspended.
Please let the college know if you test positive for COVID-19 or have symptoms consistent with the virus.
Mohawk is asking that students and employees who have tested positive for the virus or have had symptoms that are consistent with the virus, to complete an online COVID-19 Self Disclosure Form. By disclosing this information, you will be helping to limit the spread of the virus by enabling the college to work with Public Health to contact anyone that may have been exposed to COVID-19. Your personal information will remain confidential.
Students who are unable to complete coursework due to illness should contact their faculty member directly. The online COVID-19 Self Disclosure Form is available in COVID-19 Self-Disclosure Form
If you are coming to campus there are a few things that must be done prior to your arrival:
- Complete the mandatory daily health screening questionnaire. The questionnaire is available on the Mohawk Safety App under the COVID-19 section. This must be completed the day you are coming to campus.
- Review the college’s Access to Campus webpage for the latest information, including details on parking and the availability of campus services.
While the move to Stage 3 is good news for Ontario and Hamilton, it does not significantly impact the college’s plans for the remainder of the year. Mohawk continues to work closely with Hamilton Public Health and any adjustments to these plans will be based on their advice and guidance.
Although the province is moving to Stage 3, it is very important that everyone continue to do their part to stop the spread of the virus. Do not let your guard down. Keep following the advice of our Public Health experts. Wear a non-medical mask when physical distancing is not possible, wash your hands regularly, keep your distance from others, and get tested if you think you have been exposed to the virus.
As we have seen in other jurisdictions, the situation with COVID-19 is unpredictable and these plans can change on short notice. Students and employees are encouraged to check the college’s COVID-19 website for the latest updates.
Whether in-person or online, we look forward to welcoming students and employees back to class this September.
COVID-19 Update: June 10, 2020
Today, the Ontario government announced that a limited number of in-person programs will be allowed to resume at Ontario colleges next month. While this is encouraging news, it is important to note that the college is not resuming full operations at this time.
The college will be gradually opening up labs and classrooms during the months of July and August for students who were unable to complete the in-person components of their programs during the Winter 2020 semester due to the pandemic. This will also extend to students who are currently enrolled in the Spring/Summer 2020 semester who require components of their programs to be completed in-person. It is important to note that those programs that have been deemed critical to essential sectors of the economy, such as health care, community services, engineering, skilled trades and apprenticeship, will be given top priority to return to campus.
This approach is intended to ensure that the education and training for those programs can be delivered in a way that is safe for both our students and employees. In consultation with Hamilton Public Health, protocols have been put in place regarding such items as access to the campus, physical distancing, Personal Protective Equipment and cleaning to ensure a safe learning environment.

Students who are invited back to complete their studies will be contacted directly by their Associate Dean. You will receive more information such as start and end dates, details on how to access the campus and information about what is being done to protect your health and safety while on campus, including screening protocols and requirements for Personal Protective Equipment, if needed.
Students who are unable to return to their studies this summer due to employment or other reasons will be given the option to complete their coursework at an alternate time during the 2020-2021 academic year. Students will not be academically penalized if they are unable to complete their coursework this summer.
While this announcement means there will be a number of students, faculty and staff on campus, it does not change the college’s plan to re-open the campus in phases.
- The Spring/Summer semester for the majority of programs will continue using virtual and remote delivery.
- Employees who are not required to be on campus will continue to work remotely.
- Access to campus will still need to be requested through the established process for those employees and students who are not impacted by these programs.
- The second phase will begin as planned in early September with all lecture-based program components to be delivered in a remote/virtual environment while required labs, simulations and assessments will be delivered on campus.

COVID-19 Update: Mohawk to begin planning for phased re-opening of campuses - May 29
Ontario is slowly beginning to relax the restrictions on non-essential business and gatherings that were put in place following the Emergency Declaration in March. While there is still a long way to go, Mohawk College can now begin the process of planning for the phased re-opening of our campuses.
The re-opening of our campuses will be done in phases. Phase one will allow time to implement any changes that are necessary to protect the health and well-being our students and employees. Phase two is planned to begin in September to coincide with the restart of in-person delivery for labs, simulations and assessments. The timing of these and subsequent phases will depend on Provincial Restrictions and the recommendation of Public Health authorities.
It is important to note that these plans are based on current information and can change at any time. Mohawk continues to take the direction from Public Health authorities and will continue to update the college community if anything changes.
Phase 1: Campus access by approval only for June, July and August
Access to all campus buildings and learning hubs will be by approval only for the months of June, July and August. General access to the campus will not be permitted.
During this phase:
- Students may request to gain access to the campus to retrieve items from lockers, after June 1. Requests are to be made by email to security [at] mohawkcollege.ca. Please indicate the location of the locker, including campus and hallway in your email.
- Anyone approved to come to campus must complete a screening questionnaire prior to their arrival on campus. The questionnaire is available on the Mohawk Safety App under the Covid-19 section (main page). You must complete the screening on the day you are coming to campus. The results of your screening will be emailed to you and to Mohawk Security. Please show the approved access screen or email to Security when entering the college. The app also contains information and updates from Mohawk related to COVID-19.
- Employees who are not required to be on campus will continue to work remotely.
- Enhanced screening protocols will be in place with entry restricted to specific doors and parking restricted to specific lots.
- Enhanced cleaning and disinfecting protocols will continue and appropriate physical distancing measures are to be followed throughout the campus.
- Anyone approved to come to campus should follow the direction of the Public Health Agency of Canada and wear a non-medical mask/facial covering when it is not possible to consistently maintain a 2-metre (6 foot) physical distance from others. Masks and face coverings will not be provided by the college.
- Fitness Centres and gymnasiums will remain closed.
Spring/Summer semester to remain remote/virtual
The Spring/Summer semester for most full-time programs began on Monday, May 25, 2020 using virtual and remote delivery. Students will continue to be supported virtually through online and telephone services.
Events and activities remain canceled to the end of August
The college has canceled all events and facility rentals on and off campus until the end of August. Mohawk Summer Camp also remains canceled.
Phase 2: September to December
Assuming the Province’s plans to reopen the economy continue without disruption, Mohawk is planning for the second phase to begin in early September to coincide with the start of Fall semester. As previously communicated on May 8, all lecture-based program components will be delivered in a remote/virtual environment while required labs, simulations and assessments will be delivered on campus.
During this phase:
- Most campuses and learning hubs will re-open with controls in place to minimize the number of people on campus and reduce on-campus activities.
- Access to campuses and learning hubs will be restricted to employees who are required to be on campus for the delivery of academic programming or other duties that require them to be on campus, and to students who are required to attend campus for labs, simulations and assessments. Employees and students must leave the campus once their work or study related activities are complete.
- Employees who are not required to be on campus will continue to work remotely.
- Enhanced screening protocols will remain in place with entry restricted to specific doors.
- Enhanced cleaning and disinfecting protocols will continue and appropriate physical distancing measures will be in place throughout the campus.
- Fitness Centres and gymnasiums will remain closed for general use but may be used for academic delivery.
More details on the measures listed above will be provided closer to the reopening date in September. At that time, we will outline the measures that have been implemented and update you on any changes to these plans.
Thank you for your patience and understanding during these difficult times. We especially want to thank the faculty and staff who have been working hard to teach and support our students during these times. Your continued commitment is appreciated.
That we are in the process of planning for the re-opening of our campuses is a positive sign, but there is still a long road ahead of us and it is important not to let down our guard. We must all continue to do our part to help reduce the spread of this virus. This means following the guidance and directives of our Public Health authorities. Stay home as much as you can and when you do need to go out, practice physical distancing and wear a mask when you can’t stay at least 2 metres (6 feet) apart.
Remember that you are not alone. If you are feeling overwhelmed, ask for help. If you think someone is overwhelmed, please reach out and offer help.

COVID-19 Update: Mohawk College announces plan for Fall 2020 semester – May 8, 2020
After carefully considering a number of options, the college has made the decision to deliver the Fall 2020 semester through a combination of remote/virtual learning and in-person delivery.
The health and well-being of our students and employees remains our highest priority and is the key guiding factor in our decision-making process. Our plan includes the delivery of lecture-based program components in a remote/virtual environment while all required face-to-face deliveries (eg. labs, simulations, assessments, etc.) will be delivered on campus. The college is also working through the changes that may need to happen in order to maintain physical distancing in classrooms, common areas and service delivery points throughout our campuses.
Our plan is flexible and can be easily scaled up or down to accommodate any changes along the way. This may include increasing in-person delivery if the situation improves and Public Health authorities decide to ease restrictions, but it would also allow us to more easily maintain a remote/virtual environment if conditions were to change once again. Regardless of how your courses are delivered you can be confident that it will meet the learning outcomes for your programs, while ensuring the quality educational experience you expect from Mohawk.
It is important to emphasize that our plan for the Fall semester is based on current information. As we have learned with the COVID-19 pandemic, the situation can change very quickly, and we may be forced to alter or change our plans unexpectedly in the weeks and months ahead.
Your program area is now working out the details of these plans and will communicate them to you once they are available. In the coming weeks, you will have the opportunity to participate in virtual sessions with representatives from your program area to hear more about program specific plans and to give you an opportunity to ask questions. Please watch for these details to be communicated in the coming weeks.
To support your learning in a virtual/remote environment, we are developing a dedicated module that will be available free to all students. This module will include a broad range of skill development that is customized to the current learning environment. We anticipate having this ready for you to use by August 8, 2020.
And if you need more help, we will be there for you. All of our counselling and support services will continue to be available online or by telephone. You can learn more about the services available by visiting: Current Students.
Whether you are continuing your studies or joining us for the first time, we look forward to having you with us as we begin a new academic year.
Thank you for choosing Mohawk.

COVID-19 Update: Mohawk College campuses to remain closed until June 1, 2020
The situation with COVID-19 continues to be a challenge for our province and our community. At this time, Provincial Public Health authorities are advising that non-essential businesses and services remain closed until at least the end of May.
In light of these developments, the college is making the following updates to its plans for the coming weeks.
Campuses to remain closed to June 1
Our top priority continues to be slowing the spread of COVID-19 through physical distancing. In keeping with the current direction provided by Ontario’s Public Health authorities, all campus buildings and learning hubs will remain closed until Monday, June 1, 2020. We will provide another update on the status of our campuses on or before Thursday, May 28, pending new information from the province.
Access to Mohawk College buildings will continue to be severely restricted during this time. Employees and students wishing to retrieve articles from lockers or offices will need to wait until the campus reopens.
Spring/Summer semester to begin as planned on May 25
The Spring/Summer semester for most full-time programs will begin as previously communicated on Monday, May 25, 2020 using online delivery. Students will continue to be supported virtually through online and telephone services.
Planning for the Fall Semester is underway
There will be a Fall semester for Mohawk College students. The college is considering a number of different scenarios including in-person, online or hybrid delivery for the Fall semester. The final decision will be based on the direction of Public Health authorities and will be in the best interest of our students and employees. Plans for the Fall semester will be communicated once a final decision has been made.
Emergency funding available for students impacted by COVID-19
Mohawk is offering support for students who are in emergency financial need as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Eligible students can apply for up to $500 in one-time emergency support through the COVID-19 Emergency Bursary. The fund is open to both domestic and international students who meet the eligibility criteria. Full details regarding eligibility are available on the application website.

We must all continue to do our part
Everyone is looking forward to the day when we can start to return to a more normal routine, whatever that may look like. The best way to make this happen sooner is for each of us to continue to do our part to help reduce the spread of this illness. This means following the guidance and directives of our public health authorities. Stay home as much as you can and when you do need to go out, practice physical distancing.
Remember that you are not alone. If you are feeling overwhelmed, ask for help. If you think someone is overwhelmed, please reach out and offer help.

COVID-19 Update: Mohawk launches emergency bursary to support students impacted by COVID-19 pandemic – April 23, 2020
These are difficult times. As a college, Mohawk is committed to supporting you, as best we can, to ensure you can successfully continue with your studies. Starting today, Mohawk is launching the COVID-19 Emergency Bursary to provide eligible students with up to $500 in one-time emergency financial support.
Funding for the COVID-19 Emergency Bursary comes from consolidating existing support funds that are available to help students in need, as well as from donors through the Mohawk College Foundation, the Mohawk Students’ Association, and government sources. In total, there is $1 million available to support Mohawk students.
To be eligible for support, students must have been registered as a full-time postsecondary student during the Winter 2020 semester which includes those students who are eligible to graduate or are continuing in their studies this Summer (based on their program). Eligible students must be in emergency financial need as a direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic and need support with expenses such as groceries, utilities or medical costs. Full details regarding eligibility can be found in COVID Emergency Bursary Application
The application opens today, April 22 and is planned to remain open until May 15.
The application website also contains information about additional funding sources and supports that you may be eligible for, including supports related to loss of income, family support, the Canada Summer Jobs Program, OSAP and more.
We encourage you to review this information. In addition, be sure to visit the COVID-19 page, which has all of the information on the many supports available from the college.
Students and new graduates should also note that the Government of Canada has recently announced new financial supports that will be made available to help postsecondary students. For more information visit: Support for students and new grads affected by COVID-19.
COVID-19 Update: Campuses to remain closed to May 4 - April 3, 2020
Mohawk’s top priority continues to be slowing the spread of COVID-19 through physical distancing. Therefore, the college has made the decision to extend the closure of all campus buildings and learning hubs until Monday, May 4, 2020. We will update the college community by Thursday, April 30.
To comply with the most recent directives from provincial public health authorities, access to Mohawk College buildings will be severely restricted during this extended closure. Students and employees wishing to retrieve articles from lockers or offices will need to wait until the campus reopens. We realize this is an inconvenience. Any deadlines that require items to be removed from lockers or other spaces by a certain date will be waived.
While our campus buildings will remain closed, students will continue to be supported virtually through online and telephone services, and online classes will continue as planned.
Spring/Summer Semester Delayed
The start of the Spring/Summer for most full-time programs will be delayed to Monday, May 25, 2020 using online delivery. This decision affects students in semesters two to five of their program. The semester one starts have been deferred to September as previously communicated. The Spring/Summer semester will end on Friday, August 21.
Different timelines may apply to programs on the Exceptions Calendar, in Continuing Education, Collaborative Programs, City School, Aviation and in Apprenticeship programs.
This adjusted schedule will provide faculty members time to develop high-quality learning experiences to help you continue in your program and graduate.
Prior to the start of the semester, you will receive details about your program for the spring semester from your program coordinator. In early May, we’ll also provide resources to help you prepare for online learning this spring.
If you have questions or concerns about the plans or your academic needs, please contact your program coordinator for clarification.
Events cancelled to the end of May
The college is also cancelling all events and facility rentals on and off campus until the end of May.
We are also taking the additional step of postponing our June Convocation ceremonies. Convocation is a special milestone to celebrate. The Class of 2020 has earned their moment in the spotlight, and we are committed to holding a traditional convocation ceremony when it is safe to do so. All graduates will receive their credentials by mail in June.
What does this mean?
- Winter semester completion plans will continue as planned and previously communicated by program areas.
- You will receive more detailed information on spring/summer course completion plans from your program area over the next number of days and weeks.
- College buildings at Fennell, Stoney Creek, IAHS, and our learning hubs will remain closed.
- While the college buildings are closed, Mohawk remains committed to supporting you as you continue to work towards completing your semester virtually. Core student services, including counselling, continue to be available to students in alternative format.
- Online application and payment options remain open for people planning for future semesters.
COVID-19 Update: Spring 2020 – POST-SECONDARY Semester One Program Starts - March 20, 2020
Due to the ongoing challenges with COVID 19 and some uncertainty as to when we will be able to return to normal academic operations, Mohawk College will be suspending all Post-Secondary Semester One program intakes that were scheduled to begin in May 2020. The one exception is the Community Integration through Cooperative Education program (CICE). If conditions allow, Semester One of CICE will commence in May 2020 but we will continue to review the CICE status on a regular basis. Other program starts such as CitySchool (Access), Academic Upgrading, LINC, and all Apprenticeship are being reviewed and decisions made independently. All applicants who have applied for Post-Secondary Semester One in the Spring/Summer 2020 will have their applications and acceptances moved to the Fall of 2020.
Please be aware this is Semester One only. Mohawk College plans to offer all regularly scheduled Semesters Two and above during the Spring/Summer 2020 semester. To be clear, any Semester Two, Three, Four, Five or Six that was scheduled in the Spring/Summer 2020 semester will continue. Please also be advised that the details as to how this learning will be offered and whether we need to delay the start of these semesters will be determined in the near future and communicated as soon as possible.
Please be advised that this does NOT apply to Continuing Education programs and courses. Continuing Education Registration is now open for the Spring/Summer 2020 semester. Presently the only registration method available is online. Course dates for on campus delivery as currently published, do not reflect any adjustments that may be needed due to COVID-19. If it becomes necessary to adjust course dates, registered students will be notified.
Thank you for your ongoing patience and support.

COVID-19 Update: Campus Closure – March 17, 2020
Message to All Mohawk Students from President Ron McKerlie
I would like to start by thanking you all for your patience and understanding during this challenging time. The situation continues to change rapidly with the spread of COVID-19 in the community.
Earlier today, the Premier of Ontario declared a State of Emergency for the province. Our top priority is slowing the spread through social distancing. Therefore, we have made the decision to close all campus buildings and learning hubs, as of 6 pm, on March 17, 2020. This closure will remain in effect until Sunday, April 5. We will update the college community by Thursday, April 2.
This means that while students and employees will not be able to access Mohawk College buildings during this time, we will support students virtually. Your faculty continue to prepare the transition of as many courses as possible to an online format and will send semester completion plans to students on March 19, as previously communicated.
We recognize this has a significant impact on you and I want to assure you that this decision was only made after very serious deliberation.
What does this mean?
- Online classes will continue for students resuming on March 23.
- College buildings at Fennell, Stoney Creek and our learning hubs will be closed.
- Building operating hours are being handled differently at the IAHS campus, however, the building is closed to students.
- Faculty continue to prepare the transition of as many courses as possible to an online format. We still plan to send semester completion plans to students on March 19, as previously communicated.
- Core student services, including counselling, continue to be available to students in an alternative format. For specific information about how to access each of our services during this time, please see the FAQ page online.
- Students who live in residence will be contacted separately to confirm next steps.
- Online application and payment options remain open for people planning for future semesters.
While the college buildings are closed, Mohawk remains committed to supporting you as you continue to work towards completing your semester virtually.
We understand there is a lot of uncertainty at this time and this can make many people feel more anxious than usual. I want to emphasize how important it is for us to support and to look out for each other throughout these extraordinary times. We are a community, and in times of crisis, communities stay strong by supporting one another.
Remember that you are not alone. We are all in this together. If you are feeling overwhelmed, ask for help. If you think someone is overwhelmed, please reach out and offer help.

COVID-19 and Academic Continuity - March 12, 2020
Message to All Students from AVP Student Services, Meg Houghton
We recognize that news about the growing cases of COVID-19 is cause for concern for you and your family, and for your academics. With that in mind, I would like to provide you with an update and guidance on how this will affect your course of studies at Mohawk College this semester.
I would first like to assure you that the safety of our students, your teachers and our employees is our highest priority. A college team has been closely monitoring the progress of COVID-19 cases for several weeks and, as of March 11, 2020, the college has initiated its emergency management planning process while maintaining regular communication with local Public Health officials.
As more information becomes available, we will share it with you.
Shifting to online instruction
You will soon have the ability to attend more of your classes online in an effort to reinforce social distancing as a precaution. Faculty will be communicating their plans to you soon. In the event that you have questions, please contact your faculty members to find out if your courses are being offered online.
At this time, classes, labs and skilled trades shops remain open. If you are in a class, lab or skilled trades shop, you are reminded to practice strict personal hygiene practices. You can find a list of those practices on this webpage.
Mohawk College libraries and Tech Bars and Student Services remain open to offer support as you work to complete your studies this semester. If you require any accommodations for online learning, you can also contact Accessible Learning Services.
Note that, effective immediately, all events, on and off campus, have been cancelled until the end of April. At this time, we are not making any decisions with respect to events after April, including spring Convocation ceremonies in June.
Please also note that effective immediately, the David Braley Athletic & Recreation Centre will be closed until the end of April.
Stay healthy – in case of illness
Please stay healthy, and please stay home if you are not feeling well or concerned you may have been exposed to COVID-19. It’s the best thing you can do for your fellow students and the college community.
If you suspect that you may be infected with COVID-19, you must self-report. Contact questions [at] mohawkcollege.ca and our team will work with Public Health to determine next steps.
If you are more comfortable staying away from your campus and you have the opportunity to attend classes online, use that option. If you are missing on-campus classes, labs and skilled trades shops, you are still required to contact your instructors. Your instructors will work to accommodate your absence from classes and assessments as much as reasonably possible.
You will not be required to produce medical documentation for your absenteeism.
Mohawk will continue to work closely with Public Health to support students who may be required to follow the self-isolation protocol for confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19.
Stay informed

Memo to all Faculty, Staff and Students - March 12, 2020
From Ron J. McKerlie, President
Dear Colleagues and Students:
I know that many in our college community have concerns about the rapidly changing situation with COVID-19 (Coronavirus). Many are worried about what they are hearing in the news and with what they are seeing happen in other parts of the world.
Our top priority is keeping our college community safe, and we have been monitoring this situation very closely. As we have shared through earlier updates, a team was assembled in mid-January to monitor the situation, take action to keep our college community safe and stay in contact with Public Health officials. I have also been in contact with my colleagues through the Committee of Presidents, administered by Colleges Ontario.
Yesterday, the situation changed with the World Health Organization’s declaring the COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic and the report of cases in Hamilton. The college responded to this by restricting domestic and international travel for employees, re-assessing events and activities on campus, and encouraging anyone with upcoming travel plans to closely monitor and follow the Government of Canada guidelines and travel advisories.
We also launched our emergency management planning process. This means that we are now committing more people and more resources to the development of plans and actions. As outlined in Paul’s memo, to support social distancing, we are now asking faculty to begin moving as much content as they can online to reduce the need for students to come on campus. The campus will remain open to maintain access to services. If the situation were to escalate further, the college may need to close. In this case, we would strive to continue with online learning and offer as many services as we can online. More details on these steps will follow. Through all of this, we will continue to be in regular contact with our partners in the community, including Hamilton Public Health and McMaster University.
Classes and labs will continue as scheduled, but effective immediately all other events and facility rentals on and off campus are cancelled until the end of April. We will re-assess at that time. We are doing this to limit the number of people gathering on campus, so we can focus on our core business, which is students and learning, while supporting social distancing in the community.
At this time, we are not making any decisions with respect to events after April, including spring Convocation ceremonies in June.
All information related to the COVID-19 situation will be posted to the college’s website. Here you will find the latest updates from the college. It will have information for students and employees and include links to important information being provided by Public Health. Please bookmark this site and check it often. Important updates will be shared via Announcement emails and the college’s social media channels.
The best thing we can all do is to continue to follow the advice of Public Health. Wash your hands often with soap and water, or use hand sanitizer if water is not available. Avoid touching your face, and if you are ill, please stay home. The college has already introduced enhanced cleaning on campus and will continue to review its procedures to make sure we are doing everything we can.
We recognize that this is a stressful situation for everyone and it presents significant challenges to us as a college. We sincerely appreciate your support and patience as we work through this together.
Regards,
Ron
