Home to the Centre for Health Care Simulation, this hub will serve as an inter-disciplinary learning environment where students can develop field and clinical skills as part of an inter-professional team.
Located at McMaster, Mohawk’s new Centre for Health Care Simulation is being constructed over the next three years at the Institute for Applied Health Sciences (IAHS). This new centre will be an innovative solution to ongoing challenges faced by the lack of quality clinical placements for our students. The space will accommodate over 25,000 square feet of integrated clinical lab space, found in a wide range of clinical environments, and will support the learning of over 2,000 full-time and part-time students each semester.
This new centre will serve as an inter-disciplinary learning environment where students develop field and clinical skills as part of an inter-professional team. And, students will have the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and competency using technology enhanced simulation and through the simulated patient program.
Enhancement will include:
- creation of a new Ultrasound laboratory that brings together traditional ultrasound imaging, electronic picture archiving and advanced ultrasound simulators
- enhancement of the Cardiovascular Technology laboratory in a larger space will have the ability to support new programs in the area of electroneurodiagnostics and new cardiac testing equipment
- a newly located and upgraded 55 seat multi-disciplinary computer lab will afford students the latest, most up-to-date technology and advanced experiential learning opportunities
With this integrated approach to health-care program delivery and the Centre for Health Care Simulation, Mohawk College will ultimately transform the landscape of learning for our future health care practitioners
