Robert P. Wherry Scholarship

Lillian Wherry with John Wherry and Polly Lau

Lillian Wherry, along with John Wherry and Polly Lau, her son and daughter-in-law, chose to establish an award in honour of her late husband and John’s father, Robert, creating the Robert P. Wherry Scholarship.

Robert Wherry was a welder at National Steel Car in Hamilton for more than 35 years. The family wanted to honour Robert’s dedication and passion for his career, and chose to do so with a scholarship for Mohawk College students studying the skilled trades, with a focus on the welding and fabrication program.

Establishing the Robert P. Wherry Scholarship was simple; the family chose to make a gift that will be disbursed over the next 25 years. By doing so Lillian, John and Polly ensured that Robert Wherry’s name and memory will live on and deserving students will have their accomplishments recognized.
