Employee Safety Orientation

Welcome to Mohawk College. This Safety Orientation training has been developed to provide Mohawk College employees with important health and safety information and resources for working at the college. All employees are required to complete the orientation training and any other job-specific training necessary to ensure you know how to work safely.

Safety Orientation training at Mohawk is a 4-step process that requires you to complete the following within one week of your start date:

  1. Occupational Health and Safety Overview (OHS Overview)
    This module is one component of your overall safety orientation at Mohawk College. It is intended to familiarize you with health and safety at the college and help stay safe at work. It covers:
    • The occupational health and safety system in Ontario, including duties, responsibilities and rights of workplace parties (Employer, Supervisor, Employees) under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
    • General workplace hazards, hazard control measures and reporting at the college.
    • Emergency procedures such as First Aid and Medical Emergencies; Accident/Incident Reporting; Fire Evacuations and Threats on Campus.
    • Health and Safety Resources.
    Note: This module meets the learning objectives of the "Basic Occupational Health and Safety Awareness" training for Ontario workers required under Regulation 297/13 "Occupational Health and Safety Awareness and Training
  2. Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) - complete the Basic or Advanced module.
  3. Workplace Violence and Harassment
  4. After successful completion of the above modules, print the Employee/Supervisor Review Form (opens PDF, 189kb) and meet with your Supervisor to review job specific safety requirements. Sign and return the form to the OHS Department in room F102 at Fennell Campus.

    Note: It is not necessary to send copies of your Certificates of Completion.
