Where: VPI Hamilton Branch 1051 Upper James Street, Suite 102

 Summary of Event:

  1.  Trade employers to speak about the trades- half days round table event. Topics to include: day-to-day duties, soft skills and employment requirements. Q&A - Participants have the opportunity to learn about the trades and ask questions. 
  2.  Trade employers will be interviewing on-the-spot.  Projected age group: ES and Youth *

Speaker name: Angelo Cosco Description to follow - Angelo Cosco, Associate Dean, Construction and Building Systems, Marshall School of Skilled Trades & Apprenticeship at Mohawk College. Angelo joined Mohawk College in September 2006 after a 22 year career as a Red Seal Endorsed Journeyperson in the Motive Power Sector. While at Mohawk College, Angelo has served as a Technologist, Professor, Faculty Member, Program Manager and Industry Liaison to promote Partnerships with our local communities and industries. Angelo is currently enrolled at Thompson Rivers University where he is completing his Bachelors of Technology Degree in Trades Management Leadership. Guest Speaker from Canadian Tire Corporation.  Canadian Tire offers customers a unique mix of products and services through three specialty categories in which the organization is the market leader - automotive parts, accessories and service; sports and leisure products; and home products. Canadian Tire is hiring Automotive Service Apprentice/Installers to work in conjunction with the Auto Service Advisor, Auto Service Manager, Tower Operator and fellow associates to promote a customer first environment.  Canadian Tire offers competitive compensation packages including; benefits, potential for profit sharing, extensive training, and career opportunities from within and across the country at the Canadian Tire Retail stores.

•             Perform lube, oil and filter

•             Remove install, rotate and balance tires, as well as perform repairs

•             Perform minor repairs and inspections that do not require the presence of a licensed technician

•             Administer drive clean emission tests, where applicable

•             Service transmissions

•             Complete basic tune ups

•             Maintain neatness/cleanliness of bays through regular inspections

•             Maintain professional appearance (uniform, hygiene, grooming & name tag)

•             Follow company, store and department policies

•             Follow store health & safety program and observe provincial occupational health & safety regulations; report any observed or potential hazards immediately

•             Participate in meetings and all training, as required

•             Complete other tasks, as required


•             Enrollment in an apprenticeship program

•             Valid driver’s licence for province of employ

•             Ability to provide professional customer service and employee support

•             Ability to work in a team environment to achieve common goals

•             Ability to maintain composure and work effectively in a fast-paced environment

•             Ability to complete tasks according to instructions and demonstrate responsibility for outcomes
