Join us for an afternoon of poetry and spoken word featuring online readings from poets worldwide. This gathering provides an opportunity to create a space to listen and learn from survivors' experiences and celebrate their strength and resiliency. At the same time, we will unpack the roles everyone can play in ending gender-based violence. This is open to both students and employees.
As we listen to the poems, participants are encouraged to reflect and share their thoughts afterward on:
- What are the social practices or widely held beliefs that we hear about that increase the vulnerability of individuals to violence?
- Why does gender-based violence disproportionately impact certain groups of people? How is gender-based violence rooted in colonialism and systems of oppression?
- In what ways does trauma impact students and employees?
- How can we build a trauma-informed workplace and classroom?
- What are some of the ways that we can support survivors?
