Words in Action: Spoken Word and Poetry

Spoken Word and Poetry
Mar 29

Join us for an afternoon of poetry and spoken word featuring online readings from poets worldwide. This gathering provides an opportunity to create a space to listen and learn from survivors' experiences and celebrate their strength and resiliency. At the same time, we will unpack the roles everyone can play in ending gender-based violence. This is open to both students and employees.

As we listen to the poems, participants are encouraged to reflect and share their thoughts afterward on:

  • What are the social practices or widely held beliefs that we hear about that increase the vulnerability of individuals to violence?
  • Why does gender-based violence disproportionately impact certain groups of people? How is gender-based violence rooted in colonialism and systems of oppression?
  • In what ways does trauma impact students and employees?
  • How can we build a trauma-informed workplace and classroom?
  • What are some of the ways that we can support survivors?
