Re: Families in Need Holiday Campaign at IAHS

This year Student Life at the Institute of Applied Health Sciences (IH) campus is collaborating with the YEPP program at the Bernie Custis Secondary School. Bernie Custis Secondary School is located in the east end of Hamilton at 1055 King Street East. The YEPP program is a program for young and expectant parents aged 14-21. The female students are currently pregnant or have young babies. The students bring their babies to class with them as they complete high school courses to earn their Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Without this program, these students may not be able to complete their high school education. Without a high school education, these female students may not be able to attain their life goals. The young mothers also attend weekly prenatal programs, parenting programs and life skills programs to provide the best life for their children.

How You Can Help?

Staff and students can donate new or gently used items for the mothers and babies to help them with daily routines and school life.

1) Staff and students can come to the first floor lounge to select a paper ornament off the Christmas tree. Each ornament has an item on it that the mom or baby needs. When you have the item, you can drop it off to Student Life office in IAHS Room 112.

2) Staff and students can donate new or gently used items that you think could be helpful to a young mom and baby to Student Life in IAHS Room 112. The moms range in age from 14-21 and the babies are newborn – 17 months. Student Life staff and IAHS student volunteers will wrap and deliver the presents to the moms and babies at the school before the holiday.

The deadline to submit holiday gifts for YEPP is Friday December 13, 2019.

Thank you for your help in making the holiday season brighter for young moms and babies. The items you donate to the YEPP program will help the young moms be successful in school and make sure the babies have something under the tree on Christmas morning.
