International Peer Mentors - Who Are They?

Our Mentors are current Mohawk College students who understand the struggle of being a new student and many of them are International students themselves. They are ready to help you with your process of becoming a Mohawk student and coming to Canada. After you arrive, Mentors continue to make your transition smooth and welcoming, as you connect to Mohawk programs and activities as well as to become familiar with the city of Hamilton.

How Does It Work?

This is a free service offered to all new international students. This unique opportunity will help new students connect with senior students at Mohawk, before and after they arrive in Canada. This will help make their transition to Canada and Mohawk College as smooth as possible. Our mentors have experienced similar situations and know the challenges of deciding to study overseas, working through the application process, and finding their way in a new education system and culture.

Once you request a mentor, you will be matched with an international peer mentor who will then connect with you within five business days via e-mail.

Our mentors are trained to help you, as a new international student, to navigate through your journey, access college services, and also to provide guidance for easy integration into your new life at Mohawk College.

We can’t wait for you to join our Student Connect team. Don’t think twice; be one step closer to success and request a mentor!

“My mentor was from my country and spoke the same language. She gave me timely guidance and was a constant source of support right throughout”. – Mentee (anonymous)

“My mentor has been helping me since I was in India last month and when I arrived in Hamilton, it was great to know that she was my neighbour. Being from an Indian background, now I consider her as an older sister and she considers me as her cute little brother. There has never been a time that she hasn't helped me and moreover there were some issues with my timetable for which she played a critical role in getting me through. Overall it has been an excellent experience with her and I would surely give her an 11 out of 10 for all that she has done for me”. - Mentee (anonymous)

“The mentor assigned to me has been impressive to be frank. He has successfully given me guidelines on how to settle down in school, how to get an affordable accommodation and how to get about my other activities upon my arrival. I will personally give him a 5-star rating. He is awesome” - Mentee (anonymous)
