LINC Youth Media: Photography and Video Projects

Are you 18 to 25 years old? Learn photo or video skills while improving your English!

This program is funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and is offered for FREE to eligible youth.

 

LINC Youth Media - Photography Project

The program offers newcomer youth (ages 18-25 yrs. old) the opportunity to learn English and other essential skills while developing photography projects in class. The program prepares students with the skills they need to move into the LINC Youth - Video Project class or other higher level LINC classes that lead into post-secondary admission at Mohawk College. 

 

Program Highlights:

  • Improve your Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing skills
  • Learn photography skills, computer editing, writing photo stories and comic strips
  • Computer labs, library and counselling to assist learning and career planning
  • Transportation assistance may be available to eligible students
  • New students will be accepted every Monday
  • Canadian Language Benchmark: levels 2 to 4
  • Continuous intake

LINC Youth Media - Video Project

The program offers newcomer youth (ages 18-25 yrs. old) the opportunity to keep improving their English and other essential skills for post-secondary education and the workplace. This program leads to higher level LINC classes that meet the English requirement for post-secondary admission at Mohawk College

 

Program Highlights:

  • Improve your Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing skills
  • Learn to make short videos and documentaries
  • Learn research, script writing, camera work, editing
  • Computer labs, library and counselling to assist learning and career planning
  • Transportation assistance may be available to eligible students
  • New students will be accepted every Monday
  • Canadian Language Benchmark: levels 4 to 6
  • Continuous intake

To be eligible participants must:

  • Be permanent residents of Canada or protected persons (with Notice of Decision) and be 18 to 25 years old.
  • Meet the minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) required.
    • Obtain your proof of CLB  assessment at YMCA Immigrant Services: 25 Main Street West, 905-526-8452, or 211 Centennial Parkway North, 905-662-9400

Newcomer Youth Surviving Trauma (March 2010) tells the stories of young refugees who escaped from situations of violent conflict in their home countries, how that trauma has affected them, and how they are moving on in their lives.
