Ohsweken Dual Credits

These Dual Credit courses are open to students of the Grand Erie District School Board (GEDSB) who are close to high school graduation.

Courses that are offered at specific high schools are only open to students who attend those high schools.

All registrations MUST be completed through your high school's Student Services or Guidance department. Contact your Student Services or Guidance department to see which option is best for you.

Below is a sample of the Dual Credits we have run in recent years.  Please contact your high school's Student Services of Guidance department to see if these courses are still available.

Fall (Semester 1)

School Within a College (SWAC) - Automotive

College Credit 1: Introduction to Automotive (MOTP10060)

Course Description: 

College Pathways: This course is designed to give students experience in an automotive setting, which will help each student decide the best college or apprenticeship pathway for him or her. Participation in this course may lead students to choose from the Motive Power Fundamentals, Motive Power Technician, or Automotive Service Technician Apprenticeship programs.

Career Pathways*: Automotive Mechanical Installers and Servicers, Motor Vehicle Assemblers, Inspectors and Testers, Automotive Service Technicians

College Credit 1: Introduction to Construction (BLDG10016)

Course Description: Get comfortable working with tools on plumbing, carpentry, and electrical projects. This course is great for people looking to build confidence working on home improvement or to discover a career in the skilled trades.

College Pathways: Various; this course is designed to give students experience in a variety of trades, which will help each student decide the best college or apprenticeship pathway for him or her

College Credit 1: Aboriginal & Western Perspectives (INDS10022)

Course Description: Aboriginal & Western Perspectives is an introductory study of First Nations, Inuit and Metis focusing primarily on the Canadian context. Some of the social, economic and political topics include: past and recent history, effects of European arrival on native people and cultures, land claims and treaties, government policy towards First Nations peoples, self‐government and self‐determination and contemporary native issues.

College Pathways: General Arts and Science

Career Pathways*: Can lead to further education in a wide variety of fields, including Technology, Human Services, Social Sciences, Media Studies, and Business

 

Winter (Semester 2)

College Credit 1: College 101 - Introduction to Post-Secondary Experiences - Indigenous (SSCI10071)

Includes modifications and components relevant to Indigenous culture

Course Description: Learn what to expect in a college classroom, from note-taking to stress-management.

College Pathways: General Education Elective; applies to a variety of college programs

Career Pathways*: Supports success in college, leading to a wide variety of careers

College Credit 1: Introduction to Child and Youth Care Practice (HMNSCC142)

Course Description: In preparation for the CYC student role in upcoming field placement experiences construct a global perspective on Child and Youth Care utilizing the domains of Child and Youth Care practice comparing and contrasting the development of the profession as related to current trends.

College Pathways: Child and Youth Care

Career Pathways*: Child and Youth Workers, Child and Youth Counsellors, Youth Support Workers, Child and Youth Practitioners

College Credit 1: Welding (WELD10029)

Course Description: Students will develop skills in basic oxy acetylene and stick welding.

College Pathways: Manufacturing Engineering Technician - Automation, Quality Engineering Technician - Non Destructive Evaluation (NDE)

Career Pathways*: Mechanical Engineering Technologist, Industrial Maintenance Mechanic, Industrial Mechanic(Millwright), Non-Destructive Testing and Inspection Technician, Quality Assurance/Control Technician
