Student Ambassador (Front Desk) Job Description

Position Summary

Nature and Scope

The LSC Student Ambassador position serves in a variety of capacities to answer questions, mentor and guide other students through the steps of accessing Peer Tutors, Peer Assisted Study Sessions, the Writing Centre and the Math Learning Centre. 

Responsibilities include:

  • To serve as the first point of contact for students entering the Learning Support Centre and to answer basic questions about the services available and assist students in accessing the services.
  • To work closely with the Learning Support Centre staff as well as each other (LSC Student Ambassadors) to maintain and keep up to date information available to students and staff regarding Support Services offered in the LSC.
  • To act as a liaison between tutors and tutees, be knowledgeable and have accurate information of all appointments and changes to tutor schedules, and to facilitate a professional environment in the LSC.

Contract Period

From the first day of classes to the last day of classes in a given semester.

Please note: Paid training is mandatory for all student leaders and is scheduled prior to the semester beginning.

Remuneration

The Student Ambassador is compensated at a rate of $14.00 per hour plus 4% in lieu of vacation. The Student Ambassador may work a maximum of 15 hours per week (hours are not guaranteed and number of hours per week may change subject to demand). The Student Ambassador is expected to complete bi-weekly pay records through the Mohawk College Web Entry system. Pay is deposited bi-weekly via direct deposit.

Academics and Time Commitment

The Student Ambassador can make available up to 15 hours a week (actual number may vary, subject to demand). The Student Ambassador is a student first and is therefore expected to model positive academic habits and maintain a strong GPA (85%) throughout the duration of their employment. The Student Ambassador is expected to give the responsibilities of the position priority over all other college activities except those which pertain to his/her academic success.

  • Excellent computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite 2013 (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience with WCONLINE an asset 
  • Attention to detail and high degree of accuracy
  • Excellent problem solving skills and ability to exercise initiative
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team setting
  • Prior to the commencement of the term of the contract, each candidate must complete the following:
    • Attend mandatory training session
    • Completion and submission of all required paperwork
