The Mohawk Students’ Association Plaza is the largest outdoor renewal project at Fennell Campus. The MSA Plaza provides improved campus access through walking paths, enhanced pedestrian crossing, and pedestrian-only areas, allowing for a more inclusive and accessible campus for all staff and students. This new space is in the centre of the Student Life District, adjacent to the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre and the Student Centre.
The design of the Plaza is an open space for students to socialize and celebrate, and also lends to a growing culture of health, wellness and sustainability on campus. Health and wellness are also supported by extended outdoor recreational programming from the DBARC.
Physical attributes of the MSA Plaza include a large open area with permeable concrete and paving stones – materials that are more sustainable than traditional paving. The Plaza is framed by a concrete seating wall and landscaped berm with a radius design, providing ideal space for student events, concerts or movie nights on the large projection screen.
