Who Can Borrow

Full-Time Students

A valid ONE Card (Student ID) is all that is required to borrow items from any Mohawk College library.

Continuing/Distance Education Students

Continuing education and distance education students have the same borrowing privileges as full-time students. Privileges are in effect throughout the time you are registered for classes at the college. To verify your account or to create an account, call the customer service desk at any of our campus locations . Please have your student number handy to give to staff.

Faculty & Staff

Visit any of our customer service desks to have your employee photo ID activated to function as your library card.

How to Borrow

Item Check Outs

Items are checked out at the customer service desk at all library locations. At the Fennell and IAHS library, you can check out items using our Self-Serve Checkout Station. Follow the step-by-step instructions displayed on the touch screen to check out items and print a due date receipt. If you are checking out DVDs or CDs please take the items to the customer service desk and ask staff to unlock them for you before leaving the library.

Item Loan Periods

  • Books: 14 days except for high demand items which are 7 days
  • Videos: 3 days except for high demand items which are 1 day
  • CD-ROM's (including audio CD's): 14 days except for high demand items which are 7 days
  • Magazines and Journals: Most can be borrowed for 3 days, check with library staff
  • Laptops and Chromebooks: 4 hours per day
  • Bikes: 3 days

Borrower Responsibility

You are responsible for any items signed out on your account. If an item is damaged, lost or stolen, you will be charged a replacement cost and a processing fee. Unpaid accounts will be sent to a collection agency. Once this happens, the library will not accept the return of the overdue material and your library privileges will be cancelled. Bills sent to collection must be settled with the collection agency or with Mohawk College's Accounting Department.

Overdue Items

The library asks everyone to return borrowed items on time. If you keep items past the due date, we will send you an overdue notice reminding you to return the items. Each day items are kept beyond the return date, fines will accrue. We strongly encourage you to return items to any library location. If you don’t, we will send you a second notice informing you that we have placed a “hold” on your access to Library and College services. A billing letter will be sent outlining outstanding costs. Until the library hold is resolved, you will not be able to register for courses, receive your grades or borrow library material.

Replacement Costs

If you lose an item you will be charged a replacement cost and a processing fee. Once the replacement cost has been paid, the item is yours to keep. We will not accept the return of the item if you find it later.

Borrowing from other College Libraries

Mohawk College Library has a direct, reciprocal borrowing agreement with every community college library in Ontario. Privileges apply to all current Mohawk College students, staff and faculty. To borrow items, visit the circulation desk of any participating library and present your student ID (One Card). Please note that additional ID may be required in order to verify your personal information. Loan periods, fines, etc. are determined by the lending library.
