How to use Google Scholar

Google Scholar is just like Google except it searches for only scholarly publications. This link to Google Scholar has been set up so that when you search Google Scholar, you will see which articles are available in the Mohawk library collections. A "Get it @ Mohawk" link will appear next to articles that you can retrieve from the library. If on-campus you can access the articles directly. If off-campus, you will need to log in with your 9-digit student/staff ID number and the password you currently use for eLearn and Webmail. If you use the regular Google Scholar URL - scholar.google.com - there are a few simple steps to follow to be able to see Mohawk library results:

Step 1

First, navigate to Google Scholar.

Step 2

Click the "Settings" button in the top right.

Step 3

Click "Library Links" and type Mohawk College into the search box. Click the search button.

Step 4

"Mohawk College, Hamilton, Canada - Get It @ Mohawk" and "Mohawk College - Cengage Gale Full Text" will appear in a list with checked boxes beside each. Click "Save."

Step 5

Perform a search in Google Scholar. if a resource is available at Mohawk Library, a "Get It @ Mohawk" link will appear next to that search result. Click the link.

Step 6

A list of access options will display. Click one of the links to find the article. If you are off-campus, you will need to log in with your 9-digit student/staff ID number and the password you currently use for eLearn and Webmail.
