Overview

Explore the principles and practices of floral design including form techniques, composition, colour, plan identification and care and handling. Learn to create the floral arrangements for any occasion with creative, expression and originality.

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent (Mohawk Academic Upgrading, GED) OR 19 years of age or older.
  • Successful completion of Secondary School English or equivalent.
  • Some manual dexterity is required for the use of sharp tools.

Course description: : In this introductory course, you will study the proper care and handling of flowers, elements and principles of design, and colour harmonies. Different styles of flower arrangements in fresh and artificial material will be completed for practice and assessment. Supplies required will be discussed at the first class.

Course description: Beautiful floral arrangements enhance wedding celebrations or any special occasion. Learn to create bridal bouquets, corsages, boutonnieres, church and reception pieces for either weddings, special birthdays, anniversaries and graduations. Fresh and artificial floral material will be used. Kit available. PREREQUISITES: FLORFC001 and FLORFC004.

Course description: Floral tributes traditionally are used to make a comforting and elegant expression in a time of sorrow. You will learn to design various arrangements on a larger scale as floral tributes for the bereaved. Mossing and wrapping a wreath, inserts, fireside basket and wire service arrangements will be covered. Fresh and artificial floral materials will be used. Kit available. PREREQUISITES: FLORFC001 & FLORFC004.

Course description: An endless selection of materials such as plant, drieds, fresh greens, flowers and natural can be used effectively in creating floral arrangements. Different holding mediums will be covered to create designs that relate to past eras such as Colonial, French, Georgian and Victorian. Also included is creating a fresh garland, miniatures, wreath making and an introduction to display work. Kit available. PREREQUISITE: FLORFC001.

Course description: Here's your opportunity to explore a new area of floral design working with a variety of exotic flowers, greens and artificial floral material. Various arrangements will be created that are unique, bold, dramatic and contemporary looking in style. The care and handling of exotic flowers will be covered in detail with an introduction to corsage work. Kit available. PREREQUISITE: FLORFC001 & FLORFC004.

Course description: This workshop allows students to use their knowledge from previous courses to create various theme presentations, arrangements, individual and group displays using a variety of floral material. Working to speed, costing and acquiring a higher level of proficiency will be emphasized. Materials and supplies extra. PREREQUISITES: FLORFC001, FLORFC002, FLORFC003, FLORFC004, FLORFC005.
