Explore the principles and practices of floral design including form techniques, composition, colour, plant identification and care and handling. Learn to create the floral arrangements for any occasion with creative expression and originality.

Interdisciplinary, Media, Creative and Business

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent (Mohawk Academic Upgrading, GED) OR 19 years of age or older.
  • Successful completion of Secondary School English or equivalent.
  • Some manual dexterity is required for the use of sharp tools.

Course description: Examine the elements and principles of design, colour harmonies, and the proper care and handling of flowers. Complete different styles of fresh and artificial floral arrangements.
Course description: Enhance wedding celebrations or any special occasion with beautiful floral arrangements. Create bridal bouquets, corsages, boutonnieres, church and reception pieces for weddings, anniversaries, or graduations. Use fresh and artificial floral material.

Course description: Design various arrangements on a larger scale as floral tributes for the bereaved. Create arrangements including mossing and wrapping a wreath, inserts, fireside basket, and wire service arrangements.

Prerequisites: FLORFC004
Course description: Create floral arrangements using materials such as plants, fresh greens and flowers. Produce designs using different holding mediums that relate to past eras such as Colonial, French, Georgian, and Victorian. Apply techniques to make fresh garland and wreaths. Discuss display work.

Prerequisites: FLORFC001
Course description: Explore a new area of floral design, working with a variety of exotic flowers, greens and artificial floral material. Create various arrangements that are unique, bold, dramatic, and contemporary-looking in style. Cover in detail the care and handling of exotic flowers with an introduction to corsage work.

Course description: Create various "theme" presentations, arrangements, individual and group displays using a variety of floral material. Emphasis on efficiency, costing, and higher level of floral design proficiency.

Course description: Explore the latest trends in floral design, with emphasis on advanced and innovative design styles that combine line, form, texture and colour.
