Honouring the Memory of Madeline “Maddy” Hallett

Madeline “Maddy” Hallett was a radiant presence in the Recreation Therapy program at Mohawk College—a student whose warmth, generosity, and deep compassion touched everyone around her.

Tragically, Maddy’s life was cut short in February 2025 due to an undetected congenital condition—an arteriovenous malformation in her brain—that ruptured without warning. Her sudden passing left a profound void in the lives of her family, friends, and the Mohawk community. Though her time was brief, the impact she made was deep and lasting, a reflection of the incredible spirit she carried every day.

Her spirit of kindness and care continues to inspire. As a registered organ donor, Maddy's legacy of helping others carried on even after her passing. She has also inspired many people to donate blood and to sign up to be organ donors.

This Inside Mohawk article includes information about Maddy and the Blood Drive hosted by Mohawk in her honour.

Lansdowne Children's Centre's moving tribute describes Maddy's impact as a co-op student and some of the lives she touched.

In honour of Maddy’s life and legacy, her family established an Award for students in the Recreation Therapy program at Mohawk College who are in financial need. Maddy's Award supports students who, like Maddy, bring passion, empathy, and purpose to their work and studies. Her family, friends and loved ones hope to raise enough so that Maddy’s Award will be given in perpetuity.

Your donation to Maddy's Award will help ensure Maddy’s light continues to shine through others, carrying forward her dream of making the world a more joyful and inclusive place.
