Scrubbing in campaign successful thanks to Alumni

Big shout out to all the alumni who donated to the Scrubbing in for PSWs campaign. The campaign, launched on National PSW Day, May 19, supporting Mohawk College’s PSW students in their efforts to help Canadians live their best lives, especially when they are older, unwell or injured. Thanks to you, we surpassed our goal raising $10,891. 21% of donors were alumni, including PSW alumni.

Alumni also played a role in promoting the campaign as champions. PSW alumna, Stephanie Maki, was featured during the campaign. Stephanie knew she made the right choice upon graduation. “My job is so rewarding, as each long-term care resident has a story to tell. Being with my residents every day feels like I’m a part of their family,” Stephanie said.

Annette Hamm

Alumna, Annette Hamm, at CHCH proudly scrubbed in to support the campaign as did many other alumni, college leaders and faculty across Mohawk College. We were especially grateful to have the Thrive Group and Schlegel Villages, Future Ready Premium Program partners and employers of Mohawk grads, as matching donors for the campaign.

Funds raised will purchase uniforms for 218 students entering the PSW program in the fall, their first uniform. Remember your first uniform? From your childhood scouts, girl guides or sports team, from a high school part-time job or your first job out of college. Remember the confidence. Remember the sense of belonging. This uniform says, “Welcome to Mohawk College. We believe in you. You’re going to make a difference.”

PSWs are the largest workforce in health care and the professional group that spend the most time with patients and clients.

Well trained and knowledgeable PSWs are in high demand and Mohawk College has one of the top programs in the country and works hard to attract the best students. This campaign helps the College find these stellar students and your support convinces them that this is the community they want to be a part of.

Every family will have PSWs in their lives at some point. Mohawk College and Mohawk College Foundation are working hard to ensure you will have the best trained personal support worker support there is.
