Heather’s story

When it came to choosing a college, Heather Penner knew immediately it would be Mohawk. Both her parents and all three sisters thoroughly enjoyed their time at the college.

The same became true for Heather when she attended Police Foundations and Tourism at Mohawk, describing the college as "a place that is like home" because she "feels safe and secure."

Not only did she feel that Mohawk is full of industry leaders dedicated to helping students succeed, she also felt supported by donors. When she faced job loss and reduced hours over the past year due to the pandemic, Mohawk was there for her. She received financial support in the form of bursaries to help her continue her studies. Thanks to generous donations of staff, faculty, and community donors, Heather is relieved of worry about affording next semester.

"If I could speak to the donors, I would profusely thank them for all they've done to help students succeed. Their generous contribution to furthering people's education is so far beyond appreciation. You are creating the leaders of tomorrow".

Upon graduation, Heather plans to pursue a bachelor's degree through the Limerick Institute of Technology in Ireland through Mohawk's credit transfer agreement.

"Thank you for all that you're doing to help students succeed, because of you, you are creating the leaders of tomorrow"
