Kelly Waxman, From Scholarship Recipient to Donor

kelly waxman

From the beginning of her time at Mohawk, Kelly has led by example. She strategically balanced her time to include school work and volunteer commitments so she could give back and support her fellow students through peer tutoring and as a class representative. While she juggled her workload, it was necessary for Kelly to work full-time to fund her education and keep afloat of her living expenses. She was successful in completing the Business Insurance Program with honours in 2008.

Her determination, involvement and perseverance was recognized while studying at Mohawk. She was the recipient of three awards: the Ontario Insurance Adjusters Association of Hamilton Award, the National John E. Lowes Scholarship and the Royal Sun & Alliance Insurance Company Award.

Receiving the Ontario Insurance Adjusters Association of Hamilton Award inspired her to join the Association. Kelly has been an executive member of the Association for the past 10 years. In 2015 she exhibited her leadership skills as the Association’s President. She continues to support the executive committee by promoting the interests of the insurance industry through educational and social events, which include raising funds for local establishments, groups and charities in need.

The Ontario Insurance Adjusters Association of Hamilton Award was established in 1991. It has continued to provide financial support to dozens of Insurance students and has contributed to students’ academic journey.

Since Kelly graduated, she has been gainfully employed as an insurance professional. She went on to obtain special Insurance designations to include her Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional Designation as well as her Canadian Risk Management Designation. She continues to volunteer and is happily married with a young son named Lucas.

Kelly offers one piece of advice for current students, “Energy and perseverance can conquer all things”. She credits her many successes to her work ethic, her Mohawk experience and to her professors who motivated her. She feels fortunate to be in a position to give back and support Mohawk students through the Ontario Insurance Adjusters Association of Hamilton Award.

The Mohawk College Foundation is grateful for relationships with donors like the Ontario Insurance Adjusters Association of Hamilton. We are proud to be able to help students like Kelly succeed.
