Eliminating barriers to postsecondary education. With our experience as a major College in our region, we have learned there are many obstacles that prevent people from even considering the possibility of postsecondary or continuing education. Things like: cost, access, anxiety, pre-requisites, unfamiliarity, and more.
Understanding this, and to better serve the Hamilton community (and beyond) we introduced Mohawk College’s City School.
City School is about offering roadblock-free access to education throughout our community.
If access is a concern – Rather than make people come to college, we have brought college to the people. City School operates two satellite campuses in Hamilton in places people already go – one in Hamilton Public Library (Central), and one in the Eva Rothwell Community Centre.
If you don’t live in Hamilton – In 2019 we introduced City School on wheels. We have retrofitted a full-size transport truck to operate as a fully functional mobile classroom. We can literally bring a Mohawk College program right into your community.
It’s with tremendous appreciation we thank June & Doug Barber, who recognized the great benefit City School offered, and became its first donors.
