Primary duties

Position Summary: Are you a people-person who is dedicated to excellent customer service and someone who wants to make an impact in the community? We’re looking for a Retail Merchandiser, who is focused on teamwork, has a professional attitude, and the ability to work with a diverse audience. 

The Retail Merchandiser will provide support to our Receiving Coordinator in the Hamilton ReStore with a professional, friendly, and safety-focused manner. Tasks include, but are not limited to, speaking with customers and donors, sorting donated product, perform quality checks on donated product and test products. Additional responsibilities include organizing inventory, greeting customers, stocking shelves, and assisting the driver. This role works in conjunction with our Receiving Coordinator, Driver, other store associates, and volunteers. For more information, please visit www.habitathamilton.ca

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining a clean safe work area and safety walks throughout the day
  •  Loading and unloading of merchandise from trucks as well as customer donations at side door
  •  Inventory of merchandise coming in
  •  Quality checks on merchandise to ensure products are in working saleable condition
  •  Pricing of product
  •  Maintaining a clean safe work area-may include light cleaning or used saleable items
  •  Light testing and repairs of electrical fixtures 
Skills and Experience Required
  • Strong interest in the social profit sector
  • Effective organizational, verbal and written communication and problem-solving skills.
  •  Offer information on acceptable donations
  •  Offer information and explain the role of the ReStore and Habitat for Humanity in our community 
  •  Detail-orientated 
  •  Ability to work independently, as well as on a team
  •  Ability to establish and monitor priorities, remain flexible, meet deadlines and have fun.
  •  A Police Check will be required
  •  As per the Canada Summer Jobs Grant, applicants:
    o Must be between 15-30 years of age
    o Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person to whom refugee protections has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act 2
    o Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
