Free English classes - LINC for Youth Photography and Video

The programs listed below are offered in an online learning format.

Are you 18 to 25 years old? Learn English for free at Mohawk College while using photography and video skills.

Thanks to the support of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, our programs are free for permanent residents of Canada and protected persons.

LINC Youth Photography class

The class is available for students with English at level 2 to 3. The Photo class will help you to move into the Video class or other higher-level LINC classes that lead into post-secondary admission at Mohawk College.

In the class, we will:

  • Improve your listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English.
  • Learn how to take good photos and use them to tell a story.
  • Create a digital portfolio of your work.
  • Access to counselling to assist with learning and career planning.

LINC Youth Video class

The Video class is available to students with English at level 4 to 6. This class leads to higher-level LINC classes that meet the English requirement for post-secondary admission at Mohawk College.

In the class, we will:

  • Improve your listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English.
  • Develop online skills for today's changing academic and workplace environment.
  • Learn to create short video projects.
  • Access to counselling to assist with learning and career planning.

Who is eligible?

  • Permanent residents of Canada or protected persons (with Notice of Decision) ages 18 to 25 years old, living in Ontario,
  • With valid proof of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) assessment.
    • Don't have proof of CLB assessment? Contact YMCA Immigrant Services to book an appointment to take the assessment. YMCA's phone number is (905) 662-9400 or (905) 526-8452
    • The assessment has no cost for permanent residents and protected persons.

Technology required

Students will need to have access to:

  • A high-speed internet connection.
  • A computer or laptop with a camera, microphone, and sound.
  • A comfortable place where you can interact with your classmates and teachers. This will help you to learn better and faster.
