Kevin Dunn: On The Cover Alumni Profile: Mohawk's own T.V. celebrity

It’s not surprising that Kevin Dunn is a success. Not surprising, that is, to those who knew him as a student at Mohawk College.

While studying in the Television Broadcasting Course, Dunn started his own entertaining business performing at different places, and a singing telegram business that paid his way through college. He also carried on part-time work at CHCH-TV from the age of 16 – 21, where he worked as a writer in the copy department.

Upon graduation, Dunn received an Andy Award for excellence in the Television Program. He also won the Judge William K. Warrender Scholarship for Distinguished Contribution to Student Affairs. But what he is most proud of is the honour he received at his graduation ceremony.

Dunn received a College Gold Medal for overall excellence in academic and community achievement, the highest award presented by Mohawk College.

In October of 1986, Dunn packed up and moved to Manitoba to sign-on the Manitoba Television Network, where he worked two years in promotions and now produces “Bundy’s Late Night Revue”, a three hour weekly marathon of classic television. The show, which airs opposite The Tonight Show, Arsenio Hall and Letterman, is #1 in its time-spot. His recent appointment to Promotions Manager for MTN has him coordinating all aspects of station image, on-air and off-air promotion, along with his show, which is a major promotion in itself.

At present Dunn in honorary spokesperson for UNICEF Manitoba, the RP Eye Foundation, has worked closely with the Rainbow Society, The Society for Manitobans with Disabilities, and Easter Seals.

With a special love for children’s charities, Dunn has found time to have a few littles of his own, a girl, Jessica, 20 months old, and a baby boy named Ryan who is 8 months old. Dunn is married to Mary Callaghan, who is a Mohawk College Nursing Graduate.

Kevin’s “celebrity” status certainly keeps him on his toes. In October 1989 he co-hosted the Miss World Canada Pageant with Erica Ehm from “MuchMusic” in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He will be co-host of “Schockey Night in Canada”, a tribute to the Western Canada Summer games in 1990. Dunn is also hosting The 1990 CanPro Awards (The Academy Awards of Private T.V. Stations). Not to be outdone, Dunn himself is nominated for the CanPro Awards.

Dunn’s image is best wrapped up in his own words…ones he says he lives by: “Keep your faith and a good sense of humour…and let God take care of the rest.”
