What are General Education courses?
General Education courses are a required part of all Ontario college diploma programs and are designed to complement your program specific learning by helping you explore perspectives and disciplines beyond your main field of study.
General Education Program Restrictions
General Education electives are intended to provide broader learning outside of a student’s primary area of study. As such, some General Education electives are restricted for specific programs because the course content overlaps with core curriculum or because the course is already a mandatory General Education requirement within the program.
General Education Exemptions
Students who have successfully completed a General Education course at an accredited college or university can apply online for a General Education exemption (credit transfer).
General Education Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR)
Mohawk College recognizes that not all education is gained through formal means. If you have exceptional and potentially relevant work/life experience related to specific General Education elective, you may wish to explore the possibility of having your learning assessed through Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR).
