Change to Co-op Work Permit Announcement
On April 1, 2026, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) removed the requirement for post-secondary international students to obtain a Co-op Work Permit. Students may now complete co-op, placements, or degree work experiences using their study permit, provided they are enrolled full-time and their permit includes appropriate work authorization conditions (e.g., authorization to work on campus or on/off campus under R186). Although Co-op Work Permits are no longer required, confirmation of a student’s study permit inclusions is required.
