ECE Resource Field Practicum Request Form
Please complete this form to help us choose a Field Practicum that best meets your needs.
Each practicum is 105 hours/15 days. Practicum must take place in a licensed setting as per the Child Care and Early Years Act. Students can complete one placement at their employer if certain conditions are met (see below questions 7-9 in the “Placement Information” section of this form).
For any placement questions, please do not hesitate to email cecommunityplacements [at] mohawkcollege.ca (cecommunityplacements[at]mohawkcollege[dot]ca)
- Placement assignments are based on the information provided in this form and agency interest. We are pleased to provide you with the opportunity to state your placement preference; however, despite our best efforts we cannot guarantee you will be placed in your preferred agency, city/location. Should you refuse to go to the interview, or fail the interview, you will need to meet with the Field Placement Instructor to determine how to move forward.
- You may be required to travel outside of your immediate community, you are responsible for transportation and arrangements should be made accordingly.
For students located in Hamilton:
The Field Placement Instructor (FPI) will connect with the agency/site to set up the Field Placement and inform you of the confirmed agency/site. The FPI will let you know when you are able to contact your placement to set up your interview once the placement has been approved and confirmed. Students are not permitted to contact agencies directly to arrange their own field placement. Doing so will result in the agency being disqualified as a placement option and may lead to the loss of placement privileges for the current term.
For students located outside of Hamilton:
Students may be required to initiate contact with a placement agency or site. This requirement is determined by the agency’s specific guidelines and expectations.
- You will be asked to provide a valid Police Clearance dated within the past 6 months to the confirmed placement site. You may be asked to have additional clearance, such as the Vulnerable Sector Check/Screen. All costs associated with obtaining the clearance, including additional clearance at the agencies request, are the responsibility of the student. Registered students who have been convicted of an offence under the criminal code for which they have not been pardoned may be denied the opportunity to enter field placement. The FPI may not confirm a placement for you if you do not have a valid police clearance. If you do not have a valid police clearance by the placement start date, placement privileges may be lost for the associated semester. It is your responsibility to inform the FPI if you meet with barriers which may prevent you from obtaining a clear police clearance.
- All pre-placement requirements must be met prior to placement starting. All costs associated with this process are the responsibility of the student.
- Once students have been matched, they will receive an opportunity to interview.
- Students may be asked to submit a resume and participate in an interview with the agency or site before approval is granted to complete practicum hours.
Transportation Responsibility
As a student enrolled in the ECE Resource Consulting Graduate Certificate program, you are responsible for arranging transportation to and from your assigned field placement location. Please note that travel time may exceed one hour each way, and placement sites will not be changed due to concerns regarding travel distance or commute time.
Non-Academic Requirements
- You will not be placed if you have any outstanding Non-Academic Requirements (NARs).
- You must resubmit this form once all NARs have been successfully completed.
