Complete an intensive graduate program to prepare for a meaningful and challenging career in law enforcement.

What you'll learn

  • Practice intelligence led policing, crime scene management, suspect detection and apprehension.
  • Apply accountable, ethical and effective professional practices when interacting with individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds during judgmental training scenarios.
  • Best practice principles and manage risks in law enforcement.
  • Enhance communication, team-building and behavioural interviewing skills.
  • Interviewing and investigation techniques used during interactions with suspects, witnesses, and special victims.
  • Assistance provided in obtaining certification and training in:
    • Mental Health First Aid
    • Human Trafficking
    • Advanced Drug Awareness
    • Close Protection Training
    • Critical Incident Response Training
    • Private Investigator and/or Security Guard Training
    • CPR, First Aid and AED
    • Canadian Firearms Safety and Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course (PAL/RPAL)
  • Develop effective problem solving, critical decision making, note-taking and report writing skills, particularly in evidence gathering and arrest.

Admission

  • Minimum two year College diploma in Police Foundations or Protection Security and Investigation or related field
    OR
  • University degree in Criminology or other related field
    OR
  • Combination of education and work experience deemed equivalent by the College
  • Following submission of an application on ontariocolleges.ca, applicants will be contacted by the Program Coordinator in order to assess applicant suitability for the program

English Language Requirements

If English is not your first language or you have earned the equivalent of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma or post-secondary education outside of Canada, you will be required to provide proof of one of the following:

  • IELTS Academic overall band of 6.0 with no band less than 5.5
  • TOEFL iBT 80, no band less than 20
  • TOEFL Paper-based, overall score 550
  • CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language Assessment), 70
  • PTE (Pearson Test of English) Academic 58
  • CLBPT (Canadian Language Benchmark Placement Test), overall score 7, no band less than 7
  • Successful completion of the GAS-English for Academic Purposes (478 or 278) program. Placement in the GAS-EAP program is determined by scores on an in-house English language test or TOEFL or IELTS Academic

Applicants whose first language is not English will be required to demonstrate proficiency in English.

Learning Outcomes

Program Learning Outcomes, often referred to as ‘Program Standards', set out the essential learning that a student must achieve before being deemed ready to graduate.
