Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)
Tourism is a BYOD program. Students are required to have a laptop equipped with a webcam. Tablets including iPads and Chromebooks are not compatible with our programming.
Program Length
2 academic years (periods of 8 months)
Fast Track - allows students to complete a two-year Diploma program (non co-op) in 16 months. Students will start in January and be in school for four continuous semesters: Winter, Spring/Summer, Fall and Winter. Students will not be off during the summer.

Learning Outcomes
Program Learning Outcomes, often referred to as ‘Program Standards', set out the essential learning that a student must achieve before being deemed ready to graduate.
In many cases these program learning outcomes were developed by the Ministry of Colleges and Universities (MCU) in consultation with employers and educators who are experts in the program field. To ensure the outcomes remain current and in line with industry needs, we invite our employers, graduates working in the field and current students to re-examine and update them during regular, ongoing program review focus groups.

- OSSD or equivalent (Mohawk Academic Upgrading, GED) including:
- Grade 12 English, C or U or equivalent

- TOEFL minimum score of 550 (80 Internet based)

Applicants whose first language is not English will be required to demonstrate proficiency in English.

Experiential Learning
How you'll gain skills
- Hands-on use of travel and tourism computer software in our labs.
- Attending trade shows, conferences and career fairs.
- Experience interactive tourism industry simulations.
- After successful completion of all required courses, you will complete a mandatory two-week unpaid Field Placement. You are responsible for sourcing your own placement.
- Explore academic content through field trips and site visits.

Field Placement
A field placement is intended to give students hands-on experience in the workplace. After successful completion of all required courses, students complete a mandatory 75-hour placement in their final semester. The successful completion of the field placement is required for graduation. Please visit the Centre for Experiential Learning for more information on the field placement for this program.

The Tourism Program is a laptop-based program. A laptop, meeting the following minimum system requirements, is needed for the first day of class - including all required software.

I loved my time in the Tourism program. The teachers are invested and care about your success and are always willing to help, and I learned so much about travel, the industry, and the world. I was able to graduate with my TICO certification so I was ready to hit the ground running when I entered the workforce. I was given an amazing opportunity for a work placement that led to a job offer several months later. My supervisors at work were very happy during my training when I already understood many of the concepts, they were about to teach me. To say nothing of the friends that I made and all the fun I had in the program. I highly recommend Mohawk College’s Tourism Program.

I was a Tourism student from 2020 to 2022, through COVID years. My experience with the Tourism Program was a different one as it was 100% online, but in no way was a limited one! I was not sure which sector of Tourism I wanted to work with until I started the Program, and after meeting all the faculty and going through the Tourism courses, their support, guidance and experience were essential in finding my path to success. One of the things I particularly enjoyed about the Program was that we had a chance to learn about all sectors of the Tourism industry and it opened my options to pursue a position in the Hospitality sector with the same confidence my classmates jumped into opportunities to become Travel Agents or Event Planners.
There is something for everyone in the Program, if you are passionate about Tourism. I started a front desk agent position at the RCC-Hamilton immediately after graduating in April 2022 and after 2 years of seeing my Hotel Operations knowledge come to life, I now hold the Supervisor position. It is my pleasure and honour to apply everyday what I learned in my Tourism program and I would recommend it to anyone that would like to be part of this vast and amazing industry.
