Summary of the Role
The Social Media Assistant is a member of the Social Media and Marketing team at Mohawk College, which is responsible for establishing, developing and sharing critical and engaging content and information. Reporting to the Social Media Strategist & Creator, the role is responsible for helping to ideate and create social media content and communications through our social media channels (TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook). The position aids in building the Mohawk College brand and works to increase engagement and interactions through our social media platforms.
Responsibilities
- Helps to create original story concepts and angles that highlight Mohawk College campuses, student life, events, programs, etc.
- Comfortable being in front of a camera and featured on Mohawk College’s main social media channels
- Stays up to date on current trends on social media and identifies how Mohawk College can adapt content to join the conversation
- Collaborate with Social Media and Marketing teams to develop content and creative concepts for compelling, inclusive, and engaging visual storytelling.
- Ensure all content aligns with Mohawk College's brand identity and visual standards.
- Plan, capture, and edit high-quality video and photography content for digital platforms
- Assist in monitoring social media pages to ensure that shared information is accurate, appropriate, and complies with social media policies.
- Abides by the latest social media platform rules and governing standards, including privacy legislation, as well as Mohawk’s Social Media policy.
- Acts as a representative of the Mohawk College Marketing team and attends events to take images for social media purposes and follows through on posting to respective social channels (this activity can be at any campus or within the community).
Qualifications
- Must be a student studying om the Summer 2026 term at Mohawk College to be considered
- Experience creating social media content, including capturing high-quality photos and creating vertical videos (event recaps, day-in-the-life, etc.)
- Experience creating digital content for platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube and TikTok.
- Experience with social media captioning and publishing tools is an asset
- Familiarity with desktop or in-phone editing tools required
- Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere), Canva, Capcut, Splice, etc.
- Background in photography, videography, and digital storytelling would be an asset
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Digital storytelling, generating ideas using trending social media topics
- Ability to convey messaging using the Mohawk College brand voice
- Other duties as assigned
