4 Reasons to attend an Open House event

Hey there! I’m Jenna – a third-year Business Administration Marketing student. When I’m not in the classroom studying, you can find me reading or scrolling through the Instagram Discover feed in a local café!

I currently work as a CSEP Student in the Marketing and Recruitment Department. This job has given me the chance to attend college events, like Convocation and Open House, and tell stories through social media.

Over the last three years, I have truly come to think of Mohawk as home and I believe events like Open House give you a sense of life on campus! Here are just four reasons you should join me at Mohawk’s upcoming Open House events:

1. Meet the people who are going to help you succeed

Open House is a great opportunity to talk to your future professors even before becoming a student. They’ll be able to answer any program-specific questions, give you an idea of the things you’ll learn in the program, and provide insight into future career options by talking about successful grads and even their own careers.

2. Experience the campus

Mohawk truly feels like home to me, and it has felt right since the first day I started! Open House is a great time to explore and experience any of the Mohawk College campuses. For me, I was so excited to work in The Agency. Pictures can only tell you so much, but experiencing the space for myself was a game changer!

3. Learn more about paying for college

Your education is worth the investment, but it’s always nice to have some help along the way. While you’re here, you can talk to a financial advisor about bursaries, scholarships and campus employment opportunities designed to help relieve the stress of paying for school. This is something I wish I knew about when I first started. Now, I take advantage of these opportunities and they have helped me out so much.

4. Have your questions answered

I’ve always been huge on asking questions and making informed decisions when it comes to just about anything, big or small. Your decision to pursue post-secondary education is a big one and you should have all the information you need to make the right decision for your goals.

Whether you have questions about programs, campus life or future pathways, there will be members of the recruitment team, faculty and staff here to answer them. I would suggest thinking about what’s important to you in this decision and writing down any questions, so you don’t forget. I can’t wait to meet you at Mohawk College’s upcoming Open House!
