Viviane Minhee Jo is a professor in the Department of Community, Wellness and Safety, School of Interdisciplinary Programs and Community Services. She holds an LL.M. in Comparative Legal Thought from New York, an Honours LL.B. with distinction and an LL.M. in Jurisprudence from Korea and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Western Philosophy.

Viviane began her career as a legal researcher and lecturer, specializing in the philosophy of law, human rights, and comparative legal theory. Her work has consistently embraced interdisciplinary approaches, exploring connections among law, philosophy, and psychology.

Viviane’s background includes advocacy and legal support for vulnerable populations both abroad and in Canada. Before immigrating, she assisted survivors of wartime sexual violence and provided legal advice to victims of domestic violence. In Canada, she has spent over a decade supporting refugees and immigrants facing deportation for criminality and worked as a litigation law clerk on national class actions in insurance and pharmaceutical litigation.

For Viviane, teaching is a vocation and a passion. She finds great meaning in engaging with students and guiding them in their professional and intellectual development. Beyond academia and law, she is an avid reader and enjoys playing musical instruments.
