Mohawk College Board of Governors 2026-27 Student Governor

Each year, a Student Governor is elected or appointed to sit on the Mohawk College Board of Governors. The role of the Student Governor is to represent the voice and interests of all Mohawk College students at the Mohawk College Board of Governor meetings. The Student Governor also provides input on the college’s strategic direction and goals, assists in monitoring college operations and performance, and assists in assessing college projects and proposals.

This year, there was one successful candidate who applied to become the Student Governor on the 2026/2027 Board of Governors. After a thorough review of their application, the candidate was appointed to the position. We are pleased to announce that your Student Governor for 2026/2027 is Aleksia Jankovic. This will be the second term that Aleksia has served as your Student Governor.

Aleksia Jankovic
My name is Aleksia Jankovic, and I’m excited to continue building on the work I began as the Mohawk College Student Governor during the 2025/2026 term. Serving this past year gave me direct experience in governance, strategic discussions, and institutional decision-making at the college level.

Over the past year, I also worked as Lead Programmer for The Cellar, where I planned student events and engaged with students daily, hearing their concerns and priorities in real time. I now work as an Events Assistant with the Mohawk Students’ Association, continuing to stay closely connected to the student experience.

I will continue to bring strategic thinking, strong communication skills and the ability to ask critical questions to the Student Governor role. I am comfortable analyzing systems, identifying gaps and proposing practical improvements – as well as continuity, accountability and a strong commitment to meaningful student representation within the Board.

I believe every student deserves to feel like they belong. I will continue my commitment to inclusive leadership, compassionate action, and helping students take charge of their own experience on campus. As Student Governor, I’ll listen closely, advocate with purpose, and make sure student voices are at the table.
