Energy Systems Engineering Technology and Electrical Engineering Technology students worked in a multi-disciplinary team comprising of 10 members to design, build, test and troubleshoot an electric car capable of participating in the Shell Eco Marathon races.
Electrical Engineering students were challenged to analyze the energy performance of a solar wall installed at a building maintained by City Hamilton Housing. They designed and tested a prototype for monitoring the operation and performance of the installed solar wall system.
Students in the Electrical Engineering program competed to troubleshoot a pair of malfunctioning wind turbines installed at the Catholic Youth Organization site in Hamilton. Recommendations were provided to improve energy usage at the site through further evaluation of energy consumption data.
Students partnered with a start-up company to validate the performance of the industry partner’s product against world leading lighting efficiency standards. The results can be used to increase market share of the industry partner in the field of smart DC electricity panels.
Paul collaborated with the Additive Manufacturing Innovation Centre to design and print a 3D tactile map of Mohawk using feedback from students with vision-loss to improve the design and function of the map.
Kevin worked with a local start-up on an innovative project that minimizes waste from hot water boilers. Kevin’s role was to install and test a programmable logic controller to help revolutionize the boiler industry.
Brandon worked with industry partner, Andy’s Radio and Electronics, to develop a smart wheelchair that uses hand-gestures for individuals who have neuromuscular issues.
