Joanne Smith has a Master's in Health & Wellness with specialization in Holistic Health Studies from Union Institute and University. She has developed a special interest in whole health and is a Certified Health Coach, in addition to being a Certified Personal Trainer with the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology. She has 15 years' experience supporting individuals and preparing them for careers in both the health and justice field.
Awarded a President's Award of Excellence in 2016, and nominated for a second in 2018, Joanne currently works in Justice Studies, while also supporting the Health, Wellness and Fitness program. She primarily works in the classroom at Mohawk helping students physically and mentally prepare for careers in policing, corrections, and security. An essential part of her work with students focuses on fitness assessment and training to successfully pass a variety of fitness protocols including careers for policing. Joanne is also a Registered Yoga Teacher and Certified Yoga Therapist with the International Association of Yoga Therapists specializing in stress, mental health and compassion fatigue.
