Program Suspensions

The college regularly reviews its programs to ensure they remain relevant and meet the needs of employers and the labour market and are financially and operationally sustainable. Programs that no longer meet these requirements may be suspended and will stop accepting new students. This allows the college to redirect resources toward areas with higher demand and greater potential for student success and community impact. It is essential for the college to review and update its mix of programs/credentials regularly to ensure they are fully aligned to the workforce needs of our employers and industry in our communities.

When a program is listed as “suspended”, it means the program is not accepting new students and has no return date. Students currently enrolled in suspended programs will be able to complete their program through a teach-out plan and will be supported until the program ends at their scheduled completion date.

The decision to suspend a program is based on a number of factors including long-term enrolment patterns, employer need and labour market alignment, and financial viability. The decision to suspend a program is not made lightly. The college follows Ministry and local policies and directives to guide both decision-making and student supports for program completion.

There are no immediate plans to relaunch any of the college’s suspended programs. Future program offerings will be determined based on demand, employer and labour market needs and available resources.

A teach-out means that students currently enrolled in a suspended program will have the opportunity to complete their credential. All required courses, faculty support, and resources will continue to be available until the program is fully taught out to the end of the last semester of scheduled teaching.

If a student requires course(s) that are not being offered in that term, or after the program is fully taught out, the college will take reasonable steps to support them in meeting their program requirements. This may include initiating an independent study, collaborating with other colleges offering equivalent courses, or other strategies guided by foremost by student experience and academic quality.

Students currently enrolled in suspended programs will continue to receive full academic support, including access to faculty, required courses and advising. The college is committed to helping every student complete their credential successfully.

Yes, students currently enrolled in a suspended program will continue to receive full academic support to complete their program. Students who are out of sync in their studies (failed a course or withdrew from a course) should receive academic advising from their program area or Student Success Advisor to understand how to complete their program within the regular scheduled teaching timeline.

If you need to repeat a required course to graduate, Mohawk will support students to provide opportunities to make that course up or explore equivalent courses to help you complete your credential. Students can contact their Student Success Advisor to discuss academic progression, options available and timeline for completion (as outlined by their academic area).

Yes. Current students may explore internal transfer options within their program clusters with Student Success Advisors. Credit transfer may be available depending on the program structure and course alignment. You can contact your Student Success Advisor via the Contact a Student Success Advisor form.

All planned co-op terms, placements and field practicums for current students will continue as scheduled.

No. Credentials from suspended programs remain valid, recognized and respected Ontario College credentials. Students will graduate with the same credentials as originally planned.

If a program you have applied to is suspended, you will receive an email notification from the admissions team. This message will include alternate program options and contact information for a member of admissions to discuss your options in more detail.

Yes. If you are a current applicant to a program that has been suspended, you may change to another Mohawk program, within the same academic year, without penalty. To do so, please visit ontariocolleges.ca.

Currently, there is no intention or timeline for reintroducing suspended programs. If that changes, updates will be shared on the Mohawk College website. In the meantime, it is recommended that you consider alternative program options.

If you applied to a program that is now suspended, you will be contacted by the International Admissions team by email to discuss your options. You may be eligible to transfer your application to another open program.

If your Letter of Acceptance (LOA) was for a suspended program, it may impact your visa process. The International Admissions team will provide you with a list of alternative programs. You may also receive a new letter of admission (LOA) if needed.
