Dr. Azim S. Gangji is a nephrologist, transplant physician, clinician educator, and health-system leader. Dr. Gangji serves as Vice-President, Academic at St. Joseph’s Health System, Vice-President, Education at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, and Chair, Academic Advisory Committee of St. Joseph’s International Outreach Program and is a Professor of Medicine at McMaster University.
Dr. Gangji has advanced nephrology, transplantation, simulation, interprofessional education, and health-system collaboration, including the development of the West Ontario Academic Health Sciences & Hospitals Education Network and the Mohawk–St. Joseph’s Living Classroom partnership.
He is Co-Chair of the Ontario Hospital Association Education Committee and has chaired numerous national committees through the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, including committees in residency and fellowship programs, accreditation, and CanMEDS leadership.
Internationally, Dr. Gangji has strengthened dialysis services, cardiovascular and kidney disease prevention, clinical training, and research and healthcare personnel capacity in Guyana and other global health settings. Through his leadership, mentorship, and commitment to innovation in healthcare education and patient care, Dr. Gangji has made a lasting impact on learners, institutions, and communities both locally and around the world.
