Dr. Michael D. Noseworthy, PhD, received a PhD from University of Guelph in 1996, focused on applications of MRI/NMR and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) methods to assess free radical-induced brain damage.

He was a postdoctoral fellow in Imaging Physics at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and subsequently a staff scientist at The Hospital for Sick Children. He then moved to St. Joseph’s Healthcare and McMaster University, where he now is a full professor in Electrical & Computer Engineering. Also, at McMaster University he was the Co-Director of the McMaster School of Biomedical Engineering from 2009 to 2020. He has Special Professional Staff status at St. Joseph’s Healthcare and Hamilton Health Sciences in both Radiology and Nuclear Medicine and is the Associate Chair (Research) for the McMaster Department of Medical Imaging. In this role, Dr. Noseworthy was a huge supporter behind the creation of The Centre for Integrated and Advanced Medical Imaging (CIAMI) at the Institute for Applied Health Sciences campus, a partnership between Mohawk and McMaster.

Dr. Noseworthy published hundreds of journal conference papers and abstracts. He has delivered numerous lectures globally. His research interests include the assessment of tissue microstructure and metabolism using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and multinuclear in vivo nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopic techniques, and the application of complex systems mathematics and machine learning to medical image analysis. Dr. Noseworthy is an Active Engineer registered with the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO).

Melissa joined Halton Healthcare as President & CEO in June 2023. Melissa is a health system leader who is passionate about building integrated care and making sure people have the support they need from all parts of the health system.

Prior to joining Halton Healthcare, Melissa served as President of St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, where she led an innovative multi-site academic teaching hospital affiliated with McMaster University. Before her time at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, Melissa had a long and distinguished career largely focused in the public sector, including her role as Assistant Deputy Minister, Acute and Emergency Health Services for the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.

Melissa is currently a Board Member of the Ontario Hospital Association and Board Chair of Shared Services West. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and Master’s Degree in Planning from Queen’s University and has continued educational development in leadership programs at Harvard Business School, Ivey Business School and The Rotman School of Management.

Stacey Hill is a Mohawk College graduate and is the first Indigenous Liaison Officer for Hamilton Police Services. Her liaison role, which she assumed in late 2022, is meant to build stronger relationships between police and Indigenous communities. She has worked for HPS for more than 25 years serving as a patrol officer in the east end and now works closely with Hamilton’s newly formed Indigenous Consultation Circle to assist Indigenous people in navigating contacts with police.

Stacey has led training at HPS for all officers and civilians to teach them about Indigenous people and their histories, including colonization, systemic racism, the Sixties Scoop and residential schools.

She is dedicated to community advocacy and helped to form the original Hamilton Aboriginal Advisory Board. She has served as a liaison between HPS and First Nations members during the dispute over the construction of the Red Hill Valley Parkway, served on a committee dedicated to race relations and missing Aboriginal women, and was a mentor at the Niwasa Head Start Daycare. As a teen, she was Miss New Credit, an ambassador role for Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.

This fall, Stacey will be honoured with a Mohawk College Alumni of Distinction award in the Community Services category for her work and commitment to her community.

Michael S. Schwenger spent his career building an international manufacturing company.

After graduating from university, he joined StressCrete Ltd., a manufacturer of spun concrete utility poles. Soon he became General Manager and purchased the company in 1981.

Originally employing eight people, Michael expanded the company through market growth, acquisitions and start-ups to create a group of companies covering most of North America. Today, StressCrete Group has nearly 500 employees in five locations across Canada and the US. Focusing on residential street lighting, utility poles and sports lighting, StressCrete Group has become one of the major players in the North American industry.

Today, Michael remains Chairman Emeritus of the group of companies, while his son oversees operations of the company. As his business expanded, so did Michael’s philanthropic involvement with the community. He has served as Board Chair of the Royal Botanical Gardens, Hamilton Health Sciences, the Art Gallery of Hamilton and the Carpenter Hospice. He also spent time on the boards of the Burlington Community Foundation, Burlington Hydro and Dr. Kemp Hospice.

In 2015, the Schwenger family established the Schwenger Family Foundation, with a mission to support children and the local community. Today the Schwenger Family Foundation supports many worthwhile endeavours including Mohawk College’s City School program.

Michael graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 1974, obtaining an Honours B.A. in Business Administration.

Linda Franklin is the Chair of the William Osler Health System and is a member of the board of Niagara College, The Post Secondary Education Quality Assessment Board, and the Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council. Linda completed the Rotman Institute of Corporate Directors, Director designation in 2023.

Linda has been the CEO of two major associations over the past 30 years and chaired and served on several public sector boards. She recently retired as the President and CEO of Colleges Ontario, where she achieved the approval of college three-year degrees, independent nursing degrees and investments in student mental health. Linda also established a board education program for college governors, contributed to government policy development and oversaw a system marketing program. As CEO of the Wine Council of Ontario, Linda achieved significant government policy reforms to support the wine industry, including the creation of the VQA. Prior to this, Linda worked for a medical regulatory body, was the chief of staff to an Ontario Cabinet Minister and provided strategic advice to a number of organizations as a consultant.

Linda has both an Honours Bachelor of Arts in English and History and a Master of Arts in Journalism from the University of Western Ontario.

Victoria Mancinelli is the Director of Public Relations, Marketing and Strategic Partnerships for the Labourers International Union of North America (LiUNA), Ontario Provincial District Council and the Region of Central and Eastern Canada.

Through outreach and education, her work aims to empower a path to economic independence, strengthen unionized labour across Canada and promote the skilled-trades as a first-choice career path.

Victoria has served on the Exhibition Board of Governors, was appointed to the Ontario Task Force on Women and the Economy, the United Way Women’s United Council, and the advisory council for a Coalition for a Better Future and Creating Alternatives Day Program. Recently, Victoria was recognized for her tireless advocacy and commitment to ending gender-based violence with the unveiling of “Victoria and Friends” Emergency Shelter for Women and children fleeing from violence, abuse and trafficking.

She is the recipient of the YWCA Woman of Distinction Award, the CIPBA Woman of the Year Award, the Italian National Congress Ordine di Merito Award, Hamilton Business 40 under 40 Award in addition to numerous philanthropy achievements and recognitions for her work and advocacy. She has also supported Mohawk College students through the Women in Technology & Trades (WITT) program.

Victoria holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto and communications degree in the field of Public Relations and Marketing at Humber College.

Jessica Belgrave Sookhoo, a 2018 graduate of the Brain Disorders Management graduate certificate is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington.

After completing her bachelor’s degree in biology and medical sciences and obtaining her Mohawk College credential, Jessica worked in research for five years before deciding to continue her education and complete her master’s degree in counselling psychology. She is also a Certified Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC) accredited through the Association of Clinical Research Professionals.

She enjoys working with clients who present with various mental health conditions and looks forward to using her skills to provide and improve mental health treatment and care in the community. She loves to hear about people’s unique journeys and is a firm believer in accessible community supports so that everyone, from all walks of life, can thrive.

Reta Ismail, a 2006 graduate of the Journalism and Communications Media program, has enjoyed a career in radio and television. Today, she is a TV anchor on CTV News in London, Ontario.

Reta’s media career began in high school, when she had a co-op placement at Mohawk College’s radio station doing news updates and co-hosting a radio show.

Upon graduating from Mohawk, she worked as a radio news anchor/reporter in St. Catharines while volunteering as a videographer with Rogers Television to gain on-camera experience. Wanting to get into a larger market, Reta was successful in obtaining a position at CityNews in Toronto where she spent eight years as a media library archivist and as an assignment editor, monitoring breaking news.

In January of 2015, Reta made the jump from behind the scene to on-camera when she was offered an opportunity with CTV London’s news team as a weather anchor and videographer.

Born in Baghdad, Iraq, Reta fled the war-torn country in 1990, lived in Greece for three years, before coming to Canada in 1993. She is fluent in Assyrian and English.

Melanie Wong, a 2012 graduate of the Public Relations and Corporate Communication graduate certificate is a passionate designer and entrepreneur committed to sustainable and ethical practices in the fashion industry.

After briefly working for a public relations agency out of school, Melanie chose a different path, founding Olive + Splash Bamboo Apparel, a sustainable made-in-Canada athleisure clothing company. Melanie oversees all aspects of her business including design and manufacturing, online sales, accounting and media relations. After becoming an early producer of fabric facemasks and launching an innovative drive- through store during the COVID-19 pandemic the company has seen enormous growth.

Melanie is also the host of Welcome to my Hustle, a show on Instagram that highlights the stories of inspiring professionals making a difference in their respective fields.

As a proud graduate and former varsity athlete she continues to return to Mohawk College as a guest speaker to connect with students. She also holds a university Bachelor of Arts degree in political science – international law.

In 2023, Melanie received the Mohawk College Alumni of Distinction Award in the Business category.

Pramit Mehta, a 2019 graduate of the Business Accounting program is a Controller with Ontario Shipyards.

Prior to attending Mohawk, Pramit gained a solid financial background in India before expanding his education in Canada. Armed with three professional designations, a bachelor’s degree, and prior experience in accounting commerce, Pramit aimed to gain a global perspective in finance, accounting and taxation through Mohawk’s diploma program.

During his time at Mohawk, Pramit immersed himself in campus life as a peer-assisted study session (PASS) leader and student volunteer through events and groups like Coffee Club, Open House and International Education Week.

Upon graduating and earning his Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation, Pramit was hired by Ontario Shipyards, first as a Financial Analyst then as the Supervisor of Financial Analysis and Reporting, before being promoted to his current position.

Brett Lawrie, a 2018 graduate of the Insurance program, is a third-generation employee of Lawrie Insurance Group (LIG). Having been surrounded by insurance all of his life, Brett officially joined the LIG team in 2015 while completing his Mohawk College credential and obtaining his Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario (RIBO) License.

In his role today as Associate Broker, Brett is dedicated to offering advice and direction on both risk assessment and coverage for his client’s businesses. He is dedicated to staying abreast of industry changes and how that may impact his clients’ coverage and risk transfer.

Outside of work, Brett is a sports enthusiast and previously coached his brother’s youth baseball team. He continues to give back to his community by attending several charity fundraisers annually.

Additionally, as CEO of Wise Crescent Inc., his team specializes in website management for small businesses, ensuring their professional image is maintained online. With a rich background in technology, media, and business systems, Jason brings a vast network and knowledge to help businesses thrive.
