Painting walls in your home is a great do it yourself project.  If you take breaks in between each step and have your little ones help, it can be a fun and relaxing activity for the whole family.

Here is a list of step-by-step instructions on how to paint walls in your home:

1. Select your paint

When you select your paint colours, make sure to let the paint experts help guide you with type of paint; for example, most walls for homes should be eggshell to hide fingerprints and make them washable.

2. Prep your space

Make sure to cover any floors or baseboards that are not being painted with drop clothes and painter’s (green) tape.  Make sure to remove light switch covers and outlets and tape the tops off in order to protect from paint drops.

3. Prep your walls

Patch any holes or dents in your walls using compound and allow the proper dry time as indicated on the product container.

After patches are dry, sand areas smooth to ensure they are level to the drywall. Once completed make sure to prime the areas with a latex primer and wait for the proper time for primer to dry.

4. Start painting

Once your primer is dry, you are ready to paint. First use your paint brush to “cut”, paint the boarders and around switches/outlets. Then you may paint the remainder of the wall with a roller. Make sure to do this procedure twice, applying two coats of paint on the walls to make sure it covers.

Once it is dry, you are ready to clean up and put everything back to normal and enjoy the great work you have done.

Remember, painting can be relaxing if you have patience and are willing to take your time to do the job right.
