This page provides a running list of updates and alerts about the learning technology supported by the Centre for Teaching and Learning Innovation. Learning technology includes MyCanvas, Akindi, Kaltura, Respondus tools, Turnitin, and other teaching and learning tools.

Makerspace Update
3D Printing for Academic Projects, Fennell Campus (Fall 2026)
Over the years, maker culture has flourished across Mohawk College, evolving from fledgling efforts in the Makerspace and along with some other departments into a network of program-specific spaces, tools, and expertise throughout the college.
As a result, the CTLI Makerspace has concluded its operations. However, our commitment to student innovation continues.
CTLI will still provide 3D printing support for academic projects, helping students bring curriculum-based ideas to life. Our 3D printers -- Han, BB8, C3PO and, you guessed it, R2DR are set up and raring to go in the Digital Creativity Centre (EA105, Fennell). We look forward to continuing this support.
We're proud to see making, creating, prototyping, and problem-solving embedded in learning experiences across so many programs. Thank you to everyone who helped grow this community.
CanCred
Now supports auto-release badges
Badges can now be set to auto-release based on a final course grade, removing the requirement for a "student" to apply for the badge or for administration of the badging.
GitHub
Classroom LTI Decommissioned from MyCanvas (August 2026)
GitHub retired GitHub Classroom. As a result, GitHub Classroom is no longer available in MyCanvas.
This will primarily impact instructors and academic areas including CSAIT and game design.

Kaltura
Default players updated to Version 7 (August 2026)
Moving from Version 2 players to Version 7 offers significantly more accessibility, including searchable transcripts, improved keyboard navigation, adjustable captions, and screen reader support. Improved functionality on mobile devices, along with a clearer user interface and timeline chapter markers, offers additional benefits.
Mentimeter
Enterprise license expired (August 2026)
After reviewing usage data and the costs associated with our enterprise Mentimeter license, we made the difficult decision to discontinue our subscription.
What happened to your existing Mentis?
Your presentations and data remain available in your Mentimeter account. Your account will automatically transition to a free Mentimeter plan, which should meet most users' needs.
To continue accessing your account:
- Create a password for your existing Mentimeter account.
- Sign in using your Mohawk email address and new password.
- Do not use Single Sign-On (SSO), as this option will no longer be available.
MyCanvas Clean Up (August 2026)
Step one of an effort to tidy up our learning management system is underway. This initiative supports a mature approach to our course lifecycle, system enhancement, archiving, and navigation functions within MyCanvas, and will improve performance, organization, and overall user experience.
We have archived all MyCanvas courses for the academic years including: 2019-2020, 2020-2021, 2021-2022, 2022-2023, and 2023-2024.
All courses from 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 remain available in MyCanvas.

Harris Learning
Access to Secure Exam now available in Respondus LockDown Browser (July 2026)
This update is specific to Math courses. Harris Learn Secure Exam can now be accessed from within an RLDB-enabled Canvas quiz, and offers users more flexible testing options. Note that the course instructor must adjust the setup to use these features.
Multifactor Authentication (MFA)
Enabled in MyCanvas and Canvas Connect (July 2026)
Users accessing these environments will now be prompted to complete MFA setup during sign-in.
This update was required to align with cybersecurity requirements and institution-wide authentication and security requirements.
MyCanvas
Enhanced Rubrics (July 2026)
Enhanced rubrics make it easier to edit after initial setup, duplicate rubrics, and offer users an improved design. Enhanced rubrics are currently set to default to on/unlocked; however, users can disable them if preferred.
Turnitin
Draft Coach is now available to students (June 2026)
Turnitin Draft Coach provides students with proactive academic integrity support directly during their drafting process. They can access this tool through Microsoft Word Online.
LTI 1.3 & Document Processing App (April 2026)
Turnitin is now integrated into MyCanvas via Turnitin LTI 1.3. Prior to this update, Turnitin was integrated via the Canvas Plagiarism Framework.
With the new integration, instructors will enable and access Turnitin through the new Document Processing App section of the Assignment Details page.
When Turnitin is enabled in an assignment, the Similarity Report score will be visible in SpeedGrader.
This guide outlines the seven-step process for enabling Turnitin in MyCanvas submission.
Originality AI detection tool removed from our Turnitin environment (April 2026)
After careful consideration of data, tool validity, risk, and sector benchmarks, we decided to remove the supplementary Originality tool from our Turnitin environment.
We will continue to license and support Turnitin Feedback Studio, the text-matching tool that highlights exact narrative and source matching in submitted assignments.
It is recommended that faculty engage in educational supports available at the College, including, but not limited to, the MyCanvas AI Info Hub course, where you can find resources to help frame the level of AI use that is acceptable in your course (if any) via the AI Ready Framework. Our Academic Integrity Office also offers resources and MyCanvas courses for both faculty and students.

Microsoft Immersive Reader will continue to be supported as the built-in accessibility tool within the LMS.
