Fetal and Pediatric Cardiac Sonographer, Your Kids Heart

Carlos Barrios is an accomplished sonographer with a commitment to advancing his field and educating new professionals.

He has worked in a number of roles including pediatric cardiac sonographer, clinical manager and clinical instructor in both public and private organizations. Carlos has made many contributions as an educator and researcher including training colleagues from around the world to improve cardiac diagnostics. He has also helped internationally trained health care professionals earn their sonography license in Canada.

In addition to his diploma from Mohawk, Carlos holds an undergraduate science degree in psychology and a master’s degree in medical ultrasound. For his contributions to the medical field, Carlos received the 2021 Mohawk College Alumni of Distinction Award in the health sciences category.

Nicole McCormick is a successful journalist and passionate advocate for Indigenous peoples. She is from Six Nations of the Grand River in Ohsweken, Ontario, and is a member of the Mohawk Nation, Haudenosaunee Confederacy.

Following graduation, Nicole began her career as an assignment editor before joining CityNews Toronto and Breakfast Television in 2007, where she now works as senior manager of newsgathering.

Nicole challenges systematic barriers and promotes Indigenous education and inclusion through her many contributions as founder and chair of the Rogers Indigenous Peoples’ Network and as a dedicated volunteer with Indspire’s Rivers to Success Indigenous youth mentorship program. In recognition of her outstanding achievements, Nicole received a Mohawk College Alumni of Distinction Award in 2021.

Planner – Development Planning, City of Hamilton

Aminu Bello is a Registered Professional Planner and has over 10 years of land use planning experience in the public and private sectors in Edmonton, Alberta, and more recently Southern Ontario. He continues to grow his career as a Planner at the City of Hamilton, and has taken lead on the farm labour housing policy review.

Aminu is one of the most decorated student-athletes in the history of men’s basketball at Mohawk. In 2017, he was inducted into the Mohawk College Sports Hall of Fame for his contributions to the athletic program.

Further to his Mohawk diploma, he holds a bachelor of arts degree in geography from McMaster University.
