Get ready for an exciting journey!

Meet our Arrivals Team in the Transition to Canada Series. Learn all that you need about arriving to your new country and starting your studies at Mohawk College. 


This series is intended to help you think and learn about the essentials for your journey to Mohawk and your life in Canada. We offer online and in-person sessions throughout the school year.

Campus Compass - Online session

 

An overview of your journey to Canada and starting school at college. In Campus Compass 1 we will cover pre-arrival essentials, what to expect at the airport and school preparation. In Campus Compass 2 you will explore about campus resources, key strategies for success in your studies, and how to make the most of your Mohawk experience.

Housing Compass - Online session

 

Learn how to navigate student housing in Canada. In Housing Compass 1 we learn about the different options of housing available in the city, tips for your housing search, how to avoid rental scams, and your rights and responsibilities as a tenant. In Housing Compass 2 we go deeper into the on-campus and off-campus accommodation options.

Canadian Healthcare - Online session

 

Everything you need to expand your understanding of the Canadian healthcare system. Learn about the two types of health insurance plans that are provided to international students and services on campus to support your mental health and well-being.

Employment - Online session

 

Learn about employment options for international students. In the session you will learn about employment options for Mohawk College international students, as well as the supports available to you through Student and Graduate Employment.

Living in Canada - In person session

 

Dive into Canadian culture and get to know Hamilton, your new city! Join us for this two-part session. The first session, Living in Canada, will provide an opportunity to explore the country's diversity and culture, learn how to obtain a driver's license and get a cell phone, and discover how to make the most of all four seasons. In the second session, Life in Hamilton, we will learn about local transportation, nature, entertainment, and more.

Community Involvement - In-person session

 

 
Do you want to learn how to get involved with the community? Discover why volunteering is an excellent way to meet new people, support local communities, and cultivate a sense of belonging and connection.
