Looking for ways to get involved? Want to make a difference? We need a student to represent all Mohawk College students and sit on our college Board of Governors for a one-year term.
What does a Student Representative do?
As a Student Representative on our Board of Governors, you would attend all Board of Governors meetings and retreats; you would be the voice of all Mohawk College students and would represent student interests at all meetings; you would provide input on the college’s strategic direction and goals; you would assist in monitoring college operations and performance; and you would assist in assessing college projects and proposals.
Why should I apply?
This is an excellent opportunity to add real-world experience, knowledge and skills to your resume, while meeting and learning from leaders in the Hamilton community. This is your chance to make an impact at the college and apply your leadership skills in a supportive learning environment.
Time Commitment
The Board of Governors meets seven times in a year (five meetings and two strategic planning retreats), and each meeting typically lasts four hours. As the student representative, you will be expected to attend and participate in all meetings, and do any pre-reading of materials as preparation.
How do I apply?
Beginning February 6th, interested students can request a Nomination Form and Candidate Questionnaire by downloading the PDF (165k), by emailing studentservices [at] mohawkcollege.ca (studentservices[at]mohawkcollege[dot]ca), or by picking up a form in person at any of the following locations:

- Student Life Office, Room 112 at the IAHS Campus
- Student Life Office, Room C118 at Stoney Creek Campus
- Office of the President, Room C115 at Fennell Campus
Students must collect 25 signatures of support in order to be a successful candidate. 2025-26 Mohawk College Board of Governors – Student Governor

Aleksia Jankovic
My name is Aleksia Jankovic, and I’m excited for the opportunity to represent Mohawk students on the Board of Governors.
I was born in Serbia and have spent every summer there—experiences that have shaped my identity and given me a deep appreciation for cultural diversity and connection. Now, as a student in the Advertising and Marketing Communications program, I bring a voice rooted in creativity, cross-cultural understanding, and a strong sense of community.
Outside of my education, I volunteer with both children and older adults, as well as with cultural and faith-based organizations. On campus, I founded Ekipa—the Balkan and European student community at Mohawk, created to connect and support students of European heritage.
I believe every student deserves to feel like they belong. I’m committed to inclusive leadership, compassionate action, and helping students take charge of their own experience on campus. As Student Governor, I’ll listen closely, advocate with purpose, and make sure student voices are at the table.
