Explore your creative side with the Digital Creativity Centre MakerSpace

Creative projects made in the Digital Creativity Centre

When you first walk into the Digital Creativity Centre (DCC), you are hit with a bright and inviting space perfect for collaborating with your fellow classmates. Once you stop to look around, you start to notice that it is much more than a study space.

The Centre is the home of Mohawk College’s DCC MakerSpace. A place where students can come and explore their creativity with a wide range of equipment. If you have an idea for a custom t-shirt or jigsaw puzzle, they have a tool for that.

The space provides access to a laser cutter and engraver, a Cricut, a vinyl cutter, UV printer, multiple 3D printers, a cold roll laminator and a t-shirt press.  The possibilities are endless.

The DCC hosts weekly Make n’ Take workshops where students can learn about the equipment and how to use them safely in your design projects. And if you are just getting your feet wet, drop into the Open Maker Space sessions to get creative.

You don’t need to be in a creative program to take advantage of the space. The DDC is where you can enhance your digital skills while still getting to feel the texture of the physical materials. Best of all, you can connect with other students, share creative ideas, building your own community on campus.

The DCC's Digital Skills Technicians are available for one-on-one sessions to help with concepts using design software, from prototyping all the way to the finished product.

Marilyn Powers PhD P.Eng. Director, Academic Technology Centre for Teaching and Learning Innovation says, "The DCC MakerSpace gives students the chance to make the digital real.  In the process of taking their idea from concept to design to realization, students learn so many transferable skills that they can take with them into the workplace.  Supporting digital literacy and helping students master vital digital skills is at the heart of what we do in the Digital Creativity Centre."

The MakerSpace is open all day, Monday, Wednesday and Friday - 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM and Tuesday, Thursday - 8:30 AM - 7:30 PM. Stop by EA105 with your craft supplies or book a design consultation session through digitalskills.mohawkcollege.ca
